Care for the poor could be subsidized while still lowering federal taxes if the government just shifted its spending priorities. Massively slash military spending, politician salaries, corporate welfare, bailout, subsidies, etc. and you could give even just half of that to subsidized care. It's a win for both libertarians and socialists. The military defense budget for the US is currently 4.5% of the GDP-historically low. Would you propose withdrawing all armed services across the world to lower it further? Link to US Government Defense data.

Always have a need for proof-reading. But when you have veteran established editors of entire lines of comics like Stan, Roy Thomas, Archie Goodwin, Will Eisner and more, I hardly think them editing their own books is taboo. Then again, comics were the only industry in modern times with work-for-hire standards too It's not about your writing ability, it's about getting an extra paycheck for "editing " your own stuff. #Scam. That's the biggest BS I ever heard. But then again, you got that from Jim Shooter's blog

Shooter was still in high school when Kirby left Marvel in 1970. And not a single one of those writer/editors, including Stan Lee, wouldn't have benefited from having a second set of eyes providing some editorial guidance. As our buddy Dan has pointed out, comics were the only place in the publishing industry where writers edited their own work. It's just not a good idea. Cei-U! I summon the timeline! Always have a need for proof-reading. But when you have veteran established editors of entire lines of comics like Stan, Roy Thomas, Archie Goodwin, Will Eisner and more, I hardly think them editing their own books is taboo. I like the sound of that one - what's the best album to start with of theirs? The album from which this song comes, Saudade is great start to finish, but it's a bit of a departure from the sound of their other offerings, which demonstrate a heavier acid jazz and reggae influence. My favorite of theirs is the second album, The Mirror Conspiracy. It's what I would recommend to a new listener. YMMV. Thanks for the heads up to this piece. I'll have to check it out Right off the bat it reminds me of this classic

I'm by no means a healthcare expert and not particularly knowledgeable on other countries socialized healthcare programs. My understanding is that they are fine with regular medical treatments. But the downside is when you need a specialist. I keep hearing that in Canada and England you would wind up waiting months until it's your turn for specialist treatment.

Kirby did not leave to do the fourth world stuff because of Shooter. Hey, we found something we agree upon.

John agrees with the above postI'm sick and tired of hearing things from If you copied this, I'm going to tell Juggernaut. I'd think you would spot my giving credit to John (Lennon) right up front. John agrees with the above post
I'm sick and tired of hearing things from
Uptight short sided narrow minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth, just give me some truth
I've had enough of reading things
By neurotic psychotic pigheaded politicians
All I want is the truth, just give me some truth
No short-haired, yellow-bellied
Son of tricky dicky's
Gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocket full of hopes
Money for dope, money for rope
I'm sick to death of seeing things from
Tight-lipped condescending mama's little chauvinists
All I want is the truth, just give me some truth
I've had enough of watching scenes from
Schizophrenic egocentric paranoiac primadonnas
All I want is the truth just give me some truth

Shooter took over EIC in 1978 Tomb Of Dracula-Marv Wolfman quit Marvel and Tomb was cancelled when Shooter insisted Wolfman can no longer edit the book Master Of Kung Fu-Doug Moench quit Marvel and MOKF was cancelled when Shooter insisted on drastic changes that Moench objected to Steve Gerber left Marvel in 1980 citing problems with Jim Shooter and upper management over royalties on the licensing of Howard The Duck John Byrne left Marvel and ended his run on the Fantastic Four due to a falling out with Jim Shooter Roy Thomas left Marvel and ended his run on Conan due to Jim Shooter Steve Englehart left Marvel during Shooter's regime but did not lay blame on Jim Shooter Jack Kirby left Marvel in dispute over the return of his artwork and poor relations with Jim Shooter. Shooter sided with management against Kirby's creator rights Gene Colan left Marvel in disgust over Jim Shooter I'm probably leaving some folks off the list 1. Marv Wolfman and others that were Editor/writers were never going to be okay with being called on their obvious scam. How do you edit your own book ? 2. Moench hated Shooter. I'm guessing it was a clash of strong personalities. I did hear that he wanted drastic changes to MOKF and Moench lost it. 3. I never heard Gerber naming Shooter as the main reason for leaving. He was trying to own Howard the Duck and suing Marvel. 4. Byrne left after a highly successful career at Marvel. He wanted to do Superman and the FF at the same time and it wasn't done in those years. 5. Thomas signed with DC while negotiating with Marvel. Hey, that's business. 6. The Kirby artwork issue was terrible and as someone pointed out, Shooter's only recourse would have been to quit, which no one is going to do. 7. Shooter found fault with Colans efforts and Colan left. You have to remember that going back and fourth between the big two was and still is common. Ish, you have told more than a few tales about the work place. You know what happens sometimes between management and labor as I do. Management isn't always right nor wrong, but they will have the final say most of the time. Me? I just want to read good comics and Marvel during his tenure was great. How can you edit your own book? I don't know, maybe ask Stan Lee and plenty of othersJim Shooter demanded the entire MOKF killed off and replaced. Moench said goodbye As I said, Shooter was one of several problems Gerber had with Marvel No-Bryne did not ask to work for both companies at the same time. He was a loyal Marvel Man until his falling out with Jim Shooter As you already ready, Shooter was a complete jackass and drove Colan to quit Yes, I been part of management for decades at several companies including Saks 5th Ave and Liz Claiborne. Jim Shooter was not a good manager of people. The proof is his now being a pariah in the industry and unable to get work.

Close Encounters Of The Musical Kind-Part 4
My job as a manager of a Manhattan after hours club from 1975-1982 led to my meeting quite a few celebrities and wide range of characters. It was a members only club but to allow for an expanding clientele we encouraged members to send friends, business partners or other high rollers to our doors. We usually had about 40-50 people at anyone one time during the peak hours. You never knew who might show up.
For instance, one night a man dressed as a chauffeur came by with the correct password. He wanted to check out the club on behalf of his client downstairs in a parked limo. He got a quick tour and as he was about to leave I asked who was in the car. "Elton John" he replied. He left and I looked out the window. Sure enough, there was a stretch limo parked out front with tinted black windows. The driver got in but they took off. Elton John? I'll never know
I did chat with Sam McDowell, a well known former baseball pitcher who could throw 100 MPH until his arm broke down and ended his career by the mid-70's. I met Abba Eben, Israel's foreign minister. We were not far from the United Nations and received other international players. There was a woman I spoke with one evening who said she worked for a public relations firm. One of her clients was Barry Manilow who was now a big star. She confided to me that she set up Barry with female escorts to be seen with for public events since, being gay and closeted at that time, he had no appropriate female friends. For some reason that came as quite a surprise to me back then.
One of the strangest encounters occurred early September 1979. It was a Saturday morning at about 8AM. We'd be closing in 2 hours and the place was pretty emptied out by then. I'm sitting at the reception desk reading the latest copy of Rolling Stone Magazine. The cover story is about the No Nukes benefit concert that was scheduled for Madison Sq Garden in a few days. Organized by Jackson Browne,Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt and John Hall they had enlisted folks like The Doobie Brothers, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, James Taylor, Carly Simon, John Prine, Ry Cooder, Gil-Scott Heron, Jessie Colin Young, Poco, Chaka Khan, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stephen Stills and David Crosby to also perform. On the cover of the Rolling Stone was Jackson Browne
And he walks into the club as I'm reading his interview. Gives me his American Express card for the entrance fee. Yup, it says Jackson Browne with an E at the end of the name. I'm kind of speechless. He spends time at the bar drinking and mainly talking with a cute blonde hostess of ours. Plays some blackjack, converses with the blonde again and they leave as we close up the club for the end of the business day
The next night I go up to that blonde hostess and ask her if she realized who she was talking with. Turns out she faintly heard of him, but he was cute, charming, had plenty of money and they spent a few hours together at his hotel after the club closed. "Really?-any juicy gossip you might want to share with me about that?" I asked
"Well-that guy is really into feet".
That was enough for me
