Jim Shooter was by no means perfect, but as far as far as I'm concerned, his time at Marvel gave us some damn good material, and his departure marked the beginning of their creative decline. He gets an A from me. This is my feeling exactly. The Marvel comics I enjoyed thrived under his tenure as EiC. He may've been hard to work with, but judging him purely from the point of view of a reader during that period, he's alright with me. Sure if your just a selfish consumer and only care about the finished product you see, then you would love Jim Shooter. Never mind how he drove away creators like Gene Colan and Roy Thomas. Never mind how he sided with Marvel management against Jack Kirby in returning his art. He got issues of Dazzler out in time and that's what counts for ones legacy. What goes around comes around. No one wants to hire him. It came to the point of him having to go back to what he did as a 14 year old and write Legion stories again. And for supreme irony, he got thrown out before he could finish his storyline.

My booty of rather obscure films for this week:
I've been remiss lately on foreign film but grabbed 3 French movies that look intriguing
Le Million (1931) Directed by Rene Clair-I watched it last night. A French comedy/musical about a guy who owes everyone money and they are breathing down his neck. Fortunately, he just won a million the lottery. Unfortunately, the winning ticket is in a jacket his girl friend gave away to a beggar. It's a fun film as the jacket floats around from one person to another
A Man Escaped (1956) Directed by Robert Bresson- This is supposedly a highly lauded movie about a jailbreak. Made the Top 100 Films of All Times list by Sight & Sound Critics poll.Won the Cannes Film Festival and scores a 8.2 on IMDB
Made In U.S.A. (1966) Directed by Jean-Luc Godard- Supposedly a color drenched chaotic crime noir satire on consumerism. Sounds good
On the domestic side , last night I watched Star Of Midnight (1936) with William Powell and Ginger Rogers. It's kind of a precursor to The Thin Man movies with Powell as an amateur detective with his gal pal Ginger. The murder takes place in Powell's own living room and Powell takes a bullet in the butt (or actually "hip "as he keeps correcting people). Unlike the Thin Man, Powell turns down a drink offer once
The Stone Killer (1973) Charles Bronson -Cold blooded detective Bronson against mobster Martin Balsam
Strange Impersonation (1946) Directed by Anthony Mann-The box cover details for this DVD is all about film noir/ plastic surgery/ blackmail and it co-stars Hillary Brooke and Lyle Talbot
Found 2 westerns as well: Station West (1948) Dick Powell,Jane Greer,Agnes Moorehead,Burl Ives. Also Shoot-Out At Medicine Bend (1957) with Randolph Scott and Angie Dickinson
The Stepfather (1986) Terry O'Quinn stars in this Donald Westlake thriller about a man who massacres his entire family and remarries a widow with a young daughter
Some Kind Of Wonderful (1987) John Hughes script starring Eric Stoltz,Lea Thompson and Mary Stuart Masterson
Also 2 new releases on DVD
The Arrival (2016) The SF film with Amy Adams
Gimme Danger (2016) The documentary by Jim Jarmusch and Iggy Pop and the Stooges
Looks to be a good week of viewing

Anyone have any experience with background checks for jobs? How long do they usually take and how extensive are they? There's no simple answer for this. Depending on the type of job you are applying for might determine the extent of the background check. Plus there are different state laws concerning the areas of backgrounds allowed to be checked.

50 Years Ago Today-Week 4 March 1967
Another new song claims the #1 spot for the 4th straight week. The Turtles started out as a surf rock group in their L.A. high school, then following the trends of the day, fashioned themselves as folk rock. Their first hit came in the summer of '65 with a cover of Bob Dylan's It Ain't Me Babe which peaked at #8. The follow up singles to that success didn't fare as well and the band went through personnel changes. Lead singer Howard Kaylan and the Jonah Hill lookalike Mark Volman along with guitarist Al Nichols were the mainstays. It all worked out for this song and the Turtles remained popular for the balance of the decade
Tommy James and the Shondells had a previous #1 with Hanky Panky. It took about a year for another song of theirs to break the top 10. It's #13 for this week and would crest at #4. One of my personal favorite American pop bands of the late 60's
The Five Americans only had one song to break the top 20. It would peak at # 5. I'll let Steve Allen introduce them
The Four Tops were one of Motown's biggest acts, and had been releasing great r&B songs since 1965. They already had 2 #1 tunes by this time, I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) and Reach Out I'll Be There. This was their initial release for 1967 and it would peak at #4. Levi Stubbs was their lead singer
Harper's Bizarre is the quintessential American Sunshine Pop Band. They obtained the rights to this song from Simon and Garfunkel to release it as a single and employed Leon Russell for vocal arrangements. It far surpassed everyone's expectations and peaked at # 4

In the midst of a bout of flu and sore throat. The medicine I'm taking for it really knocks me out. Have slept 20 hours within the last 24.
Had one very strange dream. I dreamed I was the manager to a cabaret act named the Florence Sisters who toured from city to city. But there was only one person in the act. She would always make up an excuse at the beginning of the show why her sister was not with her.

As mentioned last week, here is the R&B band out of Detroit, Michigan who made the charts in 1967.
This peaked at #12
This climbed to #6
This made #20 in 1968
They hung around into the disco era and began to fight crime with this single

I'd like some recommendations on good, regularly updated blogs. I'm specifically looking blogs concerned with music, comics, or anything retro and 60s-flavoured. I already follow Diversions of the Groovy Kind, The Guardian's music blog, and Starlogged, but I'm looking for other suggestions to spice up the feed in my Bloglovin' app. Thanks. The only one I follow regularly Mark Evanier posts pretty much every day. Good sense of humor, lots of comic insights as well as pop culture. His taste in music is probably not copacetic with yours. He also finds great videos to imbed . He's very retro and 60's oriented

I use Paste Pot Pete's Comic Protector Bags along with Baron Zemo's Adhesive X. I feel secure Was it a mistake with Adhesive X that led to the creation of Pillowhead? -M You know, I was just thinking of Pillowhead this weekend. I really need to get that story told especially since it's all true and someone might beat me to it. Once I start I'll have to see it through to it's completion. It won't be an easy tale to tell, it will take it's toll on the teller. But I've pussyfooted around the Pillowhead Saga for much too long. Meanwhile, here's the theme-song
