That was the biggest problem, for me. Both the Eternals and the Fourth World were huge epics that were cut short at a criminally early stage; and before they were cancelled Kirby was pressured to change things in a way that went against the spirit of the concept - so it really makes no sense to criticise them for being all over the place or directionless as if he had no idea what he was doing, yet this is the kind of comment you see all the time (I'm not referring to Tartanphantom's comment BTW but rather more generally to some the common criticisms I've seen online).
Simply put, he was trying to do things the industry just wasn't set up to do.

DC felt that this toy-based book needed something familiar on the cover ( and the scene takes place in the book):

After she got her traditional costume back, DC still felt Wonder Woman needed a boost once in a while.

I picked these up a couple years ago when I searched eBay on a whim and found a seller who had both for a good price. Kim Deitch's first solo books. Not as deep as some of his later work but always weird.

I'm nominating "You Got Some Batsplainin' to Do!': A Thread for Batman Fans" started by Hoosier X way back in 2014 and is not just a humorous journal of Hoosier's trek through both Batman and Detective, but also an insightful, critical take on various ages of the character from the 50s through (so far) the early 70s. I always have enjoyed Hoosier's acceptance of some of the silliness baked into the Schiff era, but I also love that he has never simply accepted the notion that everything about pre-New Look Batman was by definition dreck and that the New Look was the Late Renaissance by contrast. He combines his knowledge of context and an appreciation of nuance with an idiosyncratic, breezy style that makes for enjoyable reading. Seconded

So a couple of updates on the placemat source search. I've had one person contact me to tell me they got the Looney Tunes mats at Burger Chef, and another contact me to tell me they got an Uncle Scrooge mat at Pizza Hit in the late 70s. Haven't gotten any info on the DC mats though. -M I want to say I saw them a few times at flea markets or discount stores, at a time predating dollar stores.

These are the first three undergrounds I ever bought, at the NYC Comic Art Con in '74 (so technically, I got them illegally). Obviously, I was mainly interested in Corben, having seen his work in the Warren mags.
