I guess we cleave to the meaning we prefer. Ooo, that's a good one!

Then you won't want to hear that "inflammable" and "flammable" have the same meaning. That has made such a negative impact on me. The fact that flammable and inflammable have the same meaning is just proof that English is a nonsense language that is just making it up as it goes along. "Oversight" is a favorite of mine. It means the action of supervising something AND the failure to supervise something.

EC may have picked it up from radio horror shows where it was used sometimes. It's also used in Ralph Milne Farley's 1938 short story The House of Ecstasy, which originally appeared in Weird Tales and has since appeared in several anthologies.

Hugh Downs had to quickly fill in for 90 live minutes when Jack Paar famously walked off his own show over a creative dispute. A real professional and a calm, compassionate presence on television for a very long time. RIP

Thank you! Not sure why they didn't show up when I searched for them. Okay, final question -- auction vs. sale. Any thoughts? I've been invited but have not yet participated in the Featured Auctions. You can read about the auctions on the website and determine whether they may suit your needs. The Exchange is where I buy and sell because it's quick and easy. I hope you took note in the links I sent you that all offered copies had been sold. Both of those books are in high demand, and I expect you'll do very well.

So a cursory look at Comiclink shows a very limited range of books for sale. Two of the higher value books I'll be selling are Albedo #2 and Vampirella #1. Neither are on comiclink, so does that mean they will be in greater demand, or does that mean if my books don't fit a very narrow superhero-centric idea of what is hot, I won't get much bidding? Vampirella #1 is indeed listed on the Comic Book Exchange at ComicLink: VampirellaAlbedo #2 can be found here: Albedo

I was today years old before I had ever heard the name Greg Giraldo. He was a mainstay at those roasts for a while until his death. He was perfect in that setting and very funny if you like off-color insult comedy.

In 2009, at the Comedy Central Roast of Joan Rivers, comedian Greg Giraldo told Carl Reiner (who was on the dais) that Rivers had named one of her crappy QVC wrist-watches after the comedy legend. "The Carl Reiner: it's got liver-spotted hands and it's running out of time."
Ironically, it was Giraldo who was dead the following year while Carl Reiner continued to work and entertain for another decade. A comic genius. He will be missed.

Consider having your higher-value books professionally graded. This eliminates arguments over grade and can enhance the value of your books. I use CGC and CBCS and have had pleasant experiences with both.
Consider selling on ComicLink, which is targeted exclusively at comic book collectors. They are a full-service broker and handle all interactions with the buyer. Once a sale price has been agreed upon, you ship the book to ComicLink and you're done. They charge a flat 10% of the sale price. I've sold several books there with complete satisfaction.

I'd heard about the mockingbird, but didn't know it was bad luck to kill a buzzard. I'll give them a wide berth and leave them to carry on.

Thank you for the votes! This week's theme is Superstition. Post covers showing how far some folks will go to avoid "bad luck." The rules are as usual: Post one classic cover that fits the theme of the contest. Covers must be posted before voting begins. Voting takes place on Tuesday, June 23, beginning at 12:01 am PST and ending at 11:59 pm PST. Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or whose cover you simply like the best. Put your choice's name in bold. The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest. If you don't think a cover fits the theme, don't vote for it. Please don't post disparaging remarks about it. If a cover is more recent than the classic time frame, kindly point that out so that the poster can choose an alternate before voting begins. Two posters may not use the same cover. Have fun and good luck!
