Ah..the good old days. I wish they still had things like this. There would be like 3 comics in a plastic bag. You could see 2 of them, but you were always trying to manipulate the bag so you could see if the middle one was any good. Usually, they tried to put a lower tier title wedged in there. Awesome memories. I think the last time I bought some was in 1984 or '85. But it was so awesome to just be able to get 3 comics for a good price and have such awesome memories. Guess they can't really do that anymore because the cost of comic books is ridiculous these days.

Mine is one that I remember quite clearly. I remember reading Iron Fist #4(which I figure was probably around 1976) at a church event. Even though I was too young to really understand much of the dialogue, I just remember how the art made an impression on me. I still have this comic in storage..it is beat up and 40 years old, but it is one that I will always remember fondly. I think what I will remember the most is the brutality of the artwork...Iron Fist and Radion just beat the hell out of each other and it has always stuck with me all these years. What a great issue....

For me, it is quite simple. I simply cannot stand the Skrulls. I don't like the way they look, their purpose...even the name. Just can't stand them. I remember whenever I would read them in the Avengers or FF, I would always feel like the whole experience was tainted. I just have never liked them. I won't buy any comic with them in it. They are number 1 on my list of hated characters. How about yours?

I always wondered why villain teams books never were really considered by any of the big companies. I don't count the Thunderbolts because they were pretending to be "good." Even if you did a few trial runs..or a limited series..why not give the villains a chance. All we ever know about them are tidbits whenever they are randomly chosen by the artists/writers who give us brief glimpses of their history. I thin you could get the same drama, pathos, action as much as any super-hero title. We know everything about the heroes, but the villains are treated as merely as jobber for the most part. All designed to make the heroes look good. "But people won't buy books about villains?" Why not? Most people would be curious to know about the extended history of these characters and also see how they live and commit their crimes. I know I would definitely have bought these type of books. I mean, I'd love to see some adventures of the Headmen? I'd love to know more about the U-Foes. How about the Circus of Crime? And, of course, the Wrecking Crew..would love to see them undertake adventures and develop depth for each of the characters. It is really irritating to know that the Human Fly and even freaking NFL Super pro got their books and had more adventures, have more history, than most teams that are older than they are. Anyhow, it would be nice if we could see more depth..history for the villains and the villain teams.

To be honest, I'm not into collecting pristine, CGC comic books. I never have been. Of course, I have old comics that I keep in the mylar bags, but I never cared if they were worth anything and I still don't. I prefer the old Bronze age books that are slightly tattered(as long as the story is complete), yellowing pages that are rough(and whatever minute moisture it had completely gone). Books that have been passed around and have had many owners. I just don't believe in paying a lot of money for comic books. The most I ever paid was $3.00. These days, I won't go above $2.50 and that is only when I really am feeling adventurous. I also do not care about story arcs or a complete series...I'll read whatever I can. Maybe I will read a few issues of a series and jumble up the sequence of issues, I don't care. I just enjoy reading as many comic books as I can. Anyone else have this mentality?

I read Rom #34. I used to collect Rom occasionally when it would be on the racks in the 80's, but I ordered this one online(for $1.00). The story was good. Rom essentially engages in battle undersea against mutated fish and he ultimately aligns with the Sub-Mariner. The cover was misleading because it makes it look like Namor was fighting against Rom, rather than the eventual alliance that took place in the book. Rom has always been a middling book for me, but it is a nice change of pace at times.

Hello,
I'm wondering what people out there think of this character. I recently read a couple issues of the series and, although the stories were decent, I am a bit amazed that it survived for 19 issues. I found that a series that revolves around trying different stunts every issue can be fun for a bit, but gets tiring and lacks progression. I read a few issues in the 70's and 80's, but even then, wasn't really impressed with the character. I know the book has limitations based on the main character, but I can understand why(with the exception of one issue) it is a fairly cheap Bronze Age title.

I've read a few this week... Master of Kung Fu #72: Always enjoy reading any issue of MOKF. I like this issue because he battles Shockwave again. It was a quick read, but enjoyable with the action and Zeck's art. Tarzan Annual 2: I find myself getting more interested in the Tarzan character(as produced by Marvel). I bought a random issue or two of Tarzan in the late 70's, but have ignored the character ever since. Now, lo and behold, here in 2016, I find myself exploring this character. I've always been broad in scope with my comics, but it is nice to finally be able to appreciate Tarzan. It is one of the books that I will probably focus more on buying now. The annual was interesting and I like the fact that Tarzan hangs with that lion! Omega #8: Omega is pretty much a character that is usually below everyone's radar..hence why he didn't last very long.. I admit that I'm not the biggest fan of him, but I do like to read an issue now or then. I liked this issue because it basically is just him and Nitro beating the hell out of each other. MOKF - I love this title. It's as late discovery for me, as I never collected it in my youth, being almostr strictly into superhero comics, but I've been catching up on what I've missed recently. Tarzan - I've bough a few of these in the dollar bin recently, again, another title I never collected in my 70's-80's heyday, and I thought that they were pretty good. Tarzan was one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons, so maybe I should have gotten more into the comics. Omega - I assume you mean Omega the Unknown. I enjoyed this series a lot. It was a bit out there, but that was half the fun. I really wish that it had lasted long enough for Gerber to resolve some of the plot points. It did get weird towards the end, and I don't know if that was part of the original plan, or if it's somehow related to the series' cancellation. Same for me. Superhero comics were pretty much my only interest. However, I would pick up an occasional issue of MOKF, John Carter, Conan, etc. But still, very rarely. In the late 70's, it was Avengers, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Captain America. Now, I find myself changing. I am more interested in reading titles that I have little or no attention to back in the day(except fro Conan..Conan was always one that I seemed to pick up more frequently in the 80's). So, I am pretty much eschewing the superhero books these days and focusing on the more obscure ones like Tarzan, Kull, Skull the Slayer, John Carter. I'm also interested in titles that I have never tried before like Dazzler and Ms. Marvel(the 1970's series). Just trying new things.

I'm reading the Essential Moon Knight volumes and this guy's work is awesome. I was never a big fan of Moon Knight(the 1st incarnation), but these volumes have shown me the power of his art. I doubt there is anyone out there that can top his version of Moon Knight.

Power Man/Iron Fist is a good series and I used to be quite a fan of it(and still am, actually). However, the series could lay the cheese on quite thick and I never was a big fan of Duffy. I know, I know..it was a corny series with a corny premise. And I did enjoy it, but some of the issues in the series..well, complete dreck. As far as Iron Fist...my favorite issue is #4 in the old series...remember reading it as school when I was a young kid in the 70's. Still have it, although it is old and beaten up...love as good now as in the 70's.

I have a few favorites. But I would say that Alpha Flight #29 almost immediately comes to mind as one of the best single issues that I've read. I believe it was in the latter part of '85. I was in a library and in high school. I just remember how action packed it was and the Hulk guest starred. It just seemed like non-stop action from the start all the way to the finish. So, that one ranks as one of my favorite singles.

I recently read John Carter Warlord of Mars Annual 3 from 1979. It was the last issue of the John Carter run at Marvel. I was never a big fan of JCWM..I purchased John Carter #2 in the 70's when I was a kid and that was the extent of my history with the character. I got the annual for $1.00. It was in below average condition, but I don't collect comics and pay a lot of money, I like the old, used cheapies and that is good enough for me. I will usually read them 1-2 times and then sell them(although I will probably end up keeping anything from the Bronze age because I enjoy that period the most). I appreciate this character a bit more now and will target the title whenever I find it at a reasonable price.

Ah..Ghost Rider. He's always been like a third tier character to me. However, I recently picked up Essential Ghost Rider(volume 3) and am really enjoying those stories from the early 80's. A simpler time in comics without super complex story lines and "continuity" issues. Just a guy with a flaming demon alter ego jamming through the desert and running into characters like Water Wizard, Jester, Tatterdemalion and Werewolf by Night. Just pure comic fun. The way that comics should be. Really enjoying this "blast from the past."
