"She’s too skinny!" proceeds to lick Cheeto dust off fingers and takes another swig of Mtn Dew before typing into keyboard "She needs to put on moar mass!!!"
Just kidding, but for whatever reason that is what I pictured in my head whenever I heard those type of complaints online thus far. I don't understand the desire to see Taitana Maslany "bulk up" as if that would make a difference. Just like Mark Ruffalo didn't need to "bulk up" for his role as Bruce Banner. Tatiana Maslany is a slender meek woman standing at 5'4". Her comic book counterpart is an idealized muscle-bound green lady at about 7 feet. Just like Ruffalo or Josh Brolin, the characters they are portraying are completely established in the realm of the fantastical to the point that utilizing time to put on muscle mass would essentially be pointless. It's not like Portman making the leap to Jane Foster or Bautista making the leap to Drax. Maslany just needs to be around for the digital mapping, and that's it. Not at the gym. Even if she had years of training and looked max potential her body size could give her, she'd still look like a Smurf compared to the character role she's assigned.
Also, this video might help people put the issues behind the VFX in the trailer into more a more rationalized perspective. Especially for this specific character.

I'm excited, and I immediately buy Tatana Maslany as Jennifer Walters. Like many have said online the CGI looks pretty rough, but hopefully Disney hears the clapback and decides to use the remaining time to clean it up. Also, this will be the MCU's first procedural, which opens more possibilities with the new super hero law that is hinted in the trailer. Getting Ally McBeal vibes. Finally, word on the street is that Wong is supposed to make an appearance via the Blonksy connection. At this point if Wong shows up in any MCU film/show I'm not surprised.

And this might be my favorite cover, but it's a tie with the Infinity Gauntlet cover. Loved the way he drew Donna and Wonder Woman. Made them both look like super smokeshows. Definitely going to save some funds for the reprint omnibus of vol. 1 of The New Teen Titans and Wonder Woman coming out later this year.

I think this is probably my favorite page I ever saw Perez illustrate. From Infinity Gauntlet.

Definitely a blow. Even with foresight of this happening, it doesn't make it any less demoralizing as a fan of his work. Losing both Neal Adams and George Perez within a few days of each other is like a massive punch to the gut. Both of those guys were sensational, and really I think were some of the last vestiges of the classic "draftsman" that could and/or did work in the advertising industry with the skillset they brought to the table. Their depictions of characters and places in comics had the perfect balance of realism and escapism. Faces looked authentic, but figures also looked dynamic within the same breath. Backgrounds looked like destinations I could set foot in. Aren't a lot of those guys left, and I already know I'm going to be even more sad when some of the OGs like Brent Anderson, John Byrne, or Jose Luis Garcia Lopez pass on. Frustrating, but at least we have stacks of all of their work to enjoy time, and time again.

General thoughts after watching: Just saw this today, and I was pretty impressed. Clearly Sam Raimi had Disney's blessing, because he completely went to town on his own terms, and blew the doors off in the process. Might be the darkest MCU film to date, so might want to leave the little ones at home if you're thinking about having them tag along. Anyway, everything felt pretty smooth in how it was directed. I was pretty engaged with the narrative overall from start to finish, and didn't feel there was a point where everything came to a grinding halt. I'm actually going to see it again in a few hours with some other folks, and I'm already excited for that. Enjoy yourselves. Now I want to binge Doctor Strange comics. BTW, there are two post credit scenes.

This story, from Creepy 75 (the only issue I had when I was young) REALLY disturbed me... to the point where I eventually tore it in half and threw it in the fireplace. I was pretty young, maybe 11 or so, but it really did a number on me. I think Neal's ultra-realistic art was really the most disturbing aspect. The entire thing can be found here: linkI've seen this image before, and what sticks out to me more than anything else is the limited number of windows on the building. I've wondered if Neal was on a time crunch, was lazy about it, or in his mind just thought it would take away from the focus area of the woman getting shot.

Many have shared some remarkable pieces already. Hard to select a favorite myself, but I'd probably spotlight the cover to Batman 244. Even with what seems like a strange error with Ras Al Ghul holding Batman's uniform when Batman on the ground already has pants on, I still love this one.

I just found out about this death. Definitely a blow, even if he was 80 years old. Neal Adams is a top 3 comic book artist I ever had the pleasure of marveling at. I felt he just perfectly captured the ideal balance between realism and escapism with what he brought to the table. Just one of those artists that was so far ahead talent wise, that he was in his own seemingly unachievable league. Many artists I'm sure probably wished they could put pencil to page like Adams, and the magic just flow out. Alas, there was only one Adams, and for as little material he produced in the realm of the comic book world compared to other guys with issues and issues of long runs, what exists for Adams clearly stood the test of time, and will continue to do so. Sucks that another OG master is gone.

No spoiler quick thoughts for now.
No Way Home was spectacular. Haven't been that mentally drained in a while. Arguably the best MCU film. Will see again. Be sure to stay for both post credit scenes.

You can tell they digitally scrubbed Andrew and Toby from the new trailer in a certain scene. With all of the other tidbits of evidence floating around leading up to the film, it's clear that they are in the movie. And that moment where black MJ falls off the Statue of Liberty, I'm thinking Andrew saves her essentially redeeming himself for allowing Gwen to die.

apparently still "Too early to call" - in that the film dropped 61% from last week (which is in line with other recent comic book films) which is bad. . . but it's still tracking to hit 175M in USA (which is good to put it in line with all the other Marvel films). and it has done well world wide. . tho it still has a bit to go before it goes into the black financially. Venom sequel just hit over 200M tho, and that one was savaged by the critics (it also cost way less to market. .so that one certainly goes into "hit" category). So. . .still too early to call Eternals a "flop". . . but it's not quite a hit yet. editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/weekend-box-office-results-eternals-holds-off-a-big-red-dog/Welp, it looks like it won't be a box office bomb like you prophesied. Marvel is what, 26-0 now? None of their films have gotten slapped down financially even in COVID-19 times to the point where Disney has to make a course correction. Eternals international earnings even exceeded expectations. And yeah, the RT score is low from the critics, yet the audience score is pretty high. That site with the critic takes is so nutty sometimes, I can't take it seriously when they rated Indiana Jones 4 with a 78% approval rating. Anyway, another victory formation for Kevin Feige and the MCU.

I saw the film. Before heading in I had let myself get a bit concerned regarding the Rotten Tomatoes score. Apparently this film is pretty divisive, and I feared that even with Chloe Zhao at the helm it was going to potentially be pretty bad. After my first viewing though I can say I don't understand at all the score that it's received this far from the critics community on that site, and I should have never let the chatter get to my head. I really liked this film. I kept waiting for the hammer to come down, and for it to all fall apart, but that never happened. Afterwards I checked Reddit to get a bigger consensus of what the feeling is for it, and most people also don't understand the low critic score in addition to being fairly entertained. I can understand a few of the knocks on it in regards to pacing, but that was about it (and really only in the beginning to me). I was really impressed with the visuals, character depth of a large cast, acting, and invested in the narrative at 2 1/2 hours without ever having to think of the time remaining. There definitely is an emphasis on story more than usual at the sacrifice of a little bit of action sequences in addition to more conversation/exposition, but it didn't bother me since I cared about what was happening on the screen regardless. As much as I liked Shang Chi, I'd probably put this one above it, and it runs circles around Black Widow definitely. There are two post credit scenes and the second one got me super excited as it was actually something I wanted to see. If I wasn't so busy I'd go see this one again for sure. The cool thing about this one that it was a Marvel movie, but at the same time it wasn't. Eternals feels a bit off compared to other MCU movies not in that it's the most unique story ever, but more so how it's approached. Anyway, go see it.
