Thanks to my decision to sell/trade my Silver Age Spideys, FFs, Hulks, and X-Men (as mentioned over in the Meanwhile thread), I came home from Emerald City with a pretty impressive tower o’ loot. With fifty of those books going to Rob Allen to fill holes in his collection at $3 a pop plus a generous $250 credit from Randy Engle of Randy’s Readers for the balance, combined with the $50 cash that was part of my deal with another friend for my FF #52, I had the biggest shopping budget I’d enjoyed in years (with enough cash left over to pick up five new short boxes). Alas, the crash of my computer last fall erased recent updates to my want list so I ended up with around twenty duplicates but even so, I’m deleriously happy about my haul.
DC
Adventure Comics #323, 343, 380 I’ve developed a hankering to own all the appearances of my childhood favorites, the Legion of Super-Pets. These three Adventures are a big step toward achieving that goal.
Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld #1-12 I’ve always wanted to read—and index—this series.
DC Comics Presents #5, 7-8, 11-12, 14-15, 32, 35, 39, 44-46 Every single one a duplicate, dammit!

Legion of Super-Heroes (1980 series) Annual #1, 4 I’m snapping up all the Silver and Bronze Age DC Annuals I can find.

OMAC #3-4 Dollar box Kirby find.
Prez #1-4 Spectacularly awful. So of course, I needed the whole run.
Secrets of the Legion #1 This and Superman: The Secret Years are all I need for a full set of pre-Crisis DCU mini-series.
Shade the Changing Man #1 Dollar box Ditko find.
Superman #176 Another Super-Pets appearance and the only issue of Superman I had as a kid.
Weird Western Tales #52 Wish Randy’s had more of these in stock. I loves me some Scalphunter.
Wonder Woman #230, 329 One Earth-Two story, one duplicate.
World’s Finest #217, 220, 224-25, 230, 236, 252-53, 264, 266, 268-70, 273, 275, 277-78, 320, 322 A couple of duplicates in the mix but a huge leap forward in completing my Bronze Age run nonetheless.
Marvel
Avengers Annual #6, 8, 11, 14 I’m amassing a set of all Marvel Annuals, Specials, and Giant-Sizes published between 1963-1986.
Captain America Annual #3Captain Marvel #20-21 These were probably my priciest purchases, but I’ve wanted them for decades and I figured I might never have the money again so...
Chamber of Darkness #1-2, 5, 7-8 I love these early ‘70s horror books. I just need #4, 6, and the Special to complete the set.
Daredevil Annual #4
Giant-Size Avengers #4
Giant-Size Captain Marvel #1 Reprinting, ironically, the two issues I bought.
Giant-Size Doc Savage #1
Giant-Size Super-Villain Team-Up #1-2
Fantasy Masterpieces #5, 8-10 Now all I need is #6.
Howard the Duck Annual #1
Human Fly #9 Run completed!!
John Carter, Warlord of Mars Annual #1-3
Journey into Mystery #2-3 That’s the ‘70s horror series, not the ‘50s.
Marvel Feature #1, 3-4, 6-7 Rebuilding my set of Frank Thorne’s Red Sonja.
Marvel Team-Up #35, 47, 64, 68, 72, 74-75, 84, 118 I’m a sucker for team-up titles and decided at last year’s Jet City Comics Show to reacquire my run of this book. This purchase doubled my inventory.
Marvel Two-in-One #11-12, 20, 24, 28, 31, 37, 39, 42, 47, 50, 55, 57, 62, 64-68, 70-73, 87-89 Like I said: sucker for team-up books.

Peter Parker Annual #4
Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner #1-4 Delighted to have this mini again, one of my favorite Namor stories for a mere $10.
Shanna the She-Devil #3-4 I figured since I’m already collecting Ka-Zar, why not pick up the missus’ solo title, too?
Supernatural Thrillers #4, 15
Tarzan #1, Annual #3 This is probably the third time I’ve bought that first issue. This time it’s going to have company, dagnabit!
Tower of Shadows #2-6. 8-9, Special #1 Now #7 will finish the set.
2001: A Space Odyssey #5-6 Dollar box Kirby find.
Worlds Unknown #4
Other
Four Color #1104 (Yogi Bear Goes to College) My replacement copy of the final issue of Four Color.
Nukla #1 Awkward Dell super-heroics drawn by Jack Sparling. Yes, there’s a streak of masochism in me.
Spyman #1-2 The legendarily disastrous reentry of Harvey into super-heroes, featuring the first pro work by Jim Steranko, found in a 3 for $5 box.
Snagglepuss #3 Heavens to Murgatroyd, why *not* buy it???
I also picked up three items out of a box of $5 trades.
Starslayer The new TPB collecting the Pacific Comics run of the Mike Grell sci-fi series. Hope I can get Mike to sign it sometime soon!
The Twelve One of two volumes collecting the ‘90s maxi-series about obscure Timely super-heroes purchased out of sheer curiosity. The jury is still out.
and finally
Carl Barks' Dark: Average American A critical analysis of Barks’ Disney ouevre I hope to pull some juicy quotes from for my book.
We had so much fun pillaging through Randy’s inventory that we never made it to Artists Alley...or any other part of the Con for that matter! Factor in a relaxing get-together with old friends at the yearly dinner and I couldn’t ask for a better convention weekend. Now it’s back to the ol’ ACBC grindstone...
Cei-U!
I summon the much-needed, much-appreciated break!
