I binged Jeff Lemire Black Hammer universe comics. Oh wow are they just killer stuff. How is the new comic by Johns? I really like the Universe but I do find it a little hard to read the same way Hellboy could be hard to read. Not bad. Not his best but it was a nice story in the BHU

So when did the preview of a first appearance become the first appearance? Recently, a friend sent me a snapshot of an auction (I don't think it was from eBay) of this issue: The bid price was up around $1000, apparently because of the 5 page preview of the Toxic Avenger contained within the issue. This blew my mind. I was an avid reader of Marvel Age back in the day, having had a subscription. I dug through my run of the title and sure enough I have this issue. I just never thought that an in-house news mag would ever hold any significant value beyond nostalgia. I did some checking through eBay and a few other sites. Apparently, this is the first appearance of Darkhawk: Listed prices for this issue started around $50, heck Lonestar comics has a CGC 9.4 copy listed for $135. What?! (and yes, I have this issue too). A preview article here contains sketches of Spider-Man's black costume a couple months before the release of ASM #252. Lonestar has a CGC copy 8.0 for $82. Also, since his passing, anything featuring Stan seems to be in high demand too. Like this: Lonestar has CGC copies of 9.8 starting at $499. I find it simply mind-boggling. However, as others have said, while I may have these issues, I don't really want to part with them because it would break my run and because of nostalgia. Marvel Age was a fun title and back before the internet, the best way I had to keep up with their monthly release schedule. The Marvel Age 12 has the preview of the black Spider-Man costume, but with a red spider than the iconic look. Still, people are gobbling them up. It's the same debate about Thor 229, because it had an advert for Hulk 181 in it, announcing the appearance of Wolverine. So prices of this issue and Daredevil 115 are moving up in price. Some stupid insane prices for those.

I like Grifter as a character but this iteration of making him part of the Bat Universe feels wrong. He should've been associated with Suicide Squad or something espionage. I agree with your review of this.
