A bit of bondage for those who like their dude's in distress: Joe Shuster had a whole sideline of producing stuff like this, for a select audience. Mister Miracle abounded with restraints and deathtraps. This is one of the best covers: The Spirit seemed to end up tied up, a lot, usually with a sultry woman standing over him. If there wasn't something subliminal there, i don't know where else you found it in comics. There was one story where he is all strapped up, while Ellen Dolan tries to solve the case and catch the crook, while not exactly bothering herself with freeing Denny Colt. Makes you wonder what they got up to on their dates.

Denny and Ellen seemed to also go in for spanking:

Speaking as a leg man, Bill Ward, and especially Torchy, has always been a favorite. I got to experience the comics when Innovation reprinted some: Howard Chaykin's always been a favorite (can't you tell), for many reasons, though sex was a big one, from the 80s on. Here, he's paying homage to a Bettie Page photo: The always sultry Iron Maiden, watching her man (and enemy) Dynamo, throw down: and a little more modern take, from george Perez: and a favorite cover of Jane Fonda, as the sexy movie version of the sexy comic book character, Barbarella:

One of Guido Crepax's more suitable covers: Love his work; but, the content of the stories are often a bit much, for me. On the other hand, Vittorio Giardino does both sexy and realistic, without getting too far into deeply kinky (as Crepax could and did): Alex Varenne's Erma Jaguar was all kinds of sexy: When I was in the Navy, one of the two local shops had a bunch of the Ken Pierce books, reprinting Modesty Blaise and others, including Enrique Romero's work on Axa: I also got Eric Stanton's Kinky Hook there, from Eros (Fantagraphics). It's filled with Stanton's cartoony fetish work; and, purportedly, some inks by studio mate Steve Ditko. The cover is a bit misleading, as the interiors are a bit lighter than that. Stanton generally had a more playful style in his work, compared to Bill Ward, whose BDSM material, done for some shady characters, is downright violent and nasty. Hard to believe it came from the same guy who did Torchy and Nanny dickering.

There is also this beauty, from Dave Cockrum: It was later reprinted for the cover of the Penguin Book edition of A princess of Mars, after it went into the public domain.
