I've never bought a comic for a sexy cover (there are only a few comics I've bought primarily for the art in any way, and in this glorious "naked people always just a click away" time in which we live, it would feel especially lame), though I do recall my parents teasing me for picking up this one from a convenience store while visiting my fathers mother (Oh, so that's why you like comics..."). What could I do? It was the latest Superman issue... Yeah, you could have another thread about comics that you DIDN'T buy because they had a sexy cover. I think I held off from some of the Warren mags for that reason when I was younger kid.

Considered buying this for the cover. Fortunately it, and the story it illustrates, are in the Corben volume I just got. (Not that the rest isn't worth having, but for now I'm good.)

Not to start a "gender wars" controversy, but it's always going to be more economically feasible for any medium to play to the straight community, as against that of any other paraphilia-community, because there are more straights out there to pony up their centavos-- and yes, I think the term applies even if one admits that "straight" is not always a fixed quality. The best compromise a business can make is to allow for material that piques the interest of other communities, but total equity on all levels is a pipe-dream. Commercial comics can be criticized for offering too little to the straight female community, but even that situation came about because of specific economic factors, all of which led to the demise of the mass-distribution comic book. One interesting thing is that one survey, reprinted on THE BEAT, claimed that girl readers outnumbered boy readers in the 40s-- I *think* before the rise of romance comics. But most of the material being produced in early Golden Age comics was male-oriented, because the makers were imitating the business model of the pulp magazines. So did all those female readers-- probably also dominantly straight-- buy the comics because the comics were ultra-cheap, or were they grooving on all those guy heroes in leotards? My post never addressed publishers and representation in comics at all. It's well understood that, right or wrong, savvy or foolish, mainstream comics have always catered primarily to heterosexual men. My point was that I'd like to hear from heterosexual women and homosexual men in this conversation, regardless of this. There are plenty of beefcake covers out there, some intentionally sexy and some otherwise. In your OP you said you were "surprised." I'm simply offering a reason as to why no one should be surprised if there are more hetero male recollections than otherwise.

Had nothing to do with what the publishers are doing.

Personally, I'm as equally not interested in beefcake covers as I am not interested in cheesecake covers; It's all white noise to me, but I figured the thread should be inclusive of everyone's experiences. Just be sure to use spoiler tags for anything adult in nature

John Bolton is quite adapt at drawing the female and the male figure. I remember buying this one, not so much for the cover art, but for Bolton's take of HR Giger's work in this particular issue. Though I am sure some would argue sexy and Giger in the same sentence. I thought of another good one ...

Hey Folks, just a friendly reminder to keep everything work friendly. While covers like the previous Corben/ Eerie cover are acceptable any cover or piece of artwork that shows full on nude male or female anatomy should not be openly posted, although if you feel its not straight up pornography you may share such comic book images as a link so long as you put a warning with it so every one knows it isn't work safe.
There haven't been any postings that cross that line but it seemed an appropriate time to just remind everyone of policy.
