The staff has been reviewing the issue of spoiler tags as per the request of several users. While we prefer not to list too many rules on the board (the more rules, the less likely anyone will take the time to read them) and had assumed spoiler tag usage was an accepted norm on the web, it's become apparent that clarification is needed, so the staff has drafted the following policy after much discussion. All were in agreement about the need for spoiler tags and how/when they should be used, but we took longer to discuss the specific windows of time for which spoiler tags should be required. Please be assured that the final policy you see below was the result of tremendous thought and discussion on the part of our entire staff and that we all whole-heartedly support the final policy.
As administrator, I have made it my mission to step further and further back from the establishing of policy on this site as the community belongs to all of us, and not especially to me. Thus, whether you love this policy or hate it, understand that it was drafted by and endorsed by the entire moderator staff.
6. All members are asked to please use spoiler tags for one month after the events occur when discussing specific plot points for comics and TV shows. For mediums such as films or novels, which have a longer shelf life, we kindly ask that you use spoiler tags for six months after the release date. The only exceptions to these two spoiler rules would be for specific threads which are openly labeled as containing spoilers directly in the title (for example, the All Purpose Batman Thread should be spoiler free for a month, but you could have a thread titled "Robin Rises: Spoilers!" for discussing a particular issue or series of issues where you want to discuss a shocking revelation while it's still current). Please be considerate and remember that, in addition to having many members who experience their media via DVR and Netflix, we have a large number of fluent English speaking members who are not, in fact, from the United States and, thus, get their television show episodes, movies, and even comics at different times than U.S. based members do. Though this should not be an issue when discussing classic comics, it's important to keep in mind in the Community Discussion and Hall of Justice sections.
An example of how to create a spoiler tag (replace {} with brackets):
{spoiler}I can't believe he died at the end!{/spoiler}
