You guys are making me feel much better about being at 233. I've read like 3 comics this month. Busy at work. Catching up on a huge stack of blu rays. Happens.

The new tablet and Marvel Unlimited sub added to the fury of reading through the randomizer choices has fueled a reading explosion and have me on pace for my biggest month of the year with a week to go...the equivalent of 149 or so comics so far this month (158 in Feb is the biggest month so far this year). At the rate I have been flying through things, I may pass that this weekend.

It's the 31st and I won't get much read today, so looks like 207 or the equivalent for the month of July, heaviest month of reading in a long time, by far...
highlights-Howard's Conan, the Annihilation stuff, Priest's Black Panther, the new Archie Comics, Gotham Academy, Rachel Rising Halloween Comicfest Edition
lowlights-Ditko's Charlton Action featuring Static #11, Shuriken, Action Comics #572, Morrison's JLA 1-4
let's see what August brings...

July total: 169
Highlights: Finished reading Zot! and it quickly became one of my all time favorite comics. There's really not a bad issue in the run. It's a shame there are only 36 issues though.
Other highlights: Started reading the first volume of Howard the Duck and am really enjoying it.

If I finish anything in the next 20 hours I'll just add it to next month's.
82 issues read for the month. Read lots of good stuff but I have to say my favorite by far was Hip Hop Family Tree, and I hope to get the third volume asap in August. Least favorite was Empty Zone #1, which wasn't even bad, but not something I'll continue with. Surprising and exciting new series is The Fiction from BOOM!, which I will follow for at least another issue to see where things go.

I read next to nothing this month.
I caught up on my movie watching. An Autumn Afternoon is highly recommended!

Rereading 1-4, the characters were flat, lacking characterization, everyone stood around waiting for Batman or Superman to do something, everyone acted the way they did because the plot needed them to, not because it fit the character's history or even made any sense outside of the needs of the plot, and the plot itself was predictable and by the numbers. On top of that, Porter's art has not stood up well over the years for me. I found it downright ugly, and the panel to panel storytelling was a lot weaker than I remember, and there wasn't enough in Morrison's script to make it interesting enough to plow through to overcome the deficiencies in the art. I remember liking it a lot because the League book had been so bad for so long it felt big and important again, but looking back now, it's just not that good of a story or a handling of the characters as characters instead of costumes and powers moving as the plot needs them to.

I don't think the characters were flat but I'm thinking Morrison hadn't found his voice for each member yet. Later on in his run, The Flash and GL have a nice rivalry going and Aquaman becomes this crochity old man type. The detached ,cold Batman is born in this series as well.

Recap of July:
I read 69 comics in all for the month which is the lowest total in the 3 years that I’ve been doing the reading club. It’s funny but I think I spend a lot more time on this site, by far, than Reading comics. I also have Lots of obligations and I guess it’s the middle of summer so spending time inside sitting down and reading has been put on the back burner.
The Good:
Planetary 2,3 I always forget how good this series is. Between the Art and Ellis’ imagination, it is just one of the best series ever produced. What really impresses me is that , although Ellis does his copy of Archetypes, He manages to make them fresh and exciting.
Runaways 1-3
I missed this whole series when it first came out but I tread the first 3 issues on Maeve Unlimited and they were really good.
Superman: Hunters Prey 1-3
I always enjoyed this mini chronicling the origin of Doomsday. He was just a great character in my opinion. The Dan Jurgens art is always a treat too and this is the only comic where I saw Darkseid get owned by an opponent.
The Bad:
JLA Incarnations 1-7
Last month I completed acquiring this series by getting issue #6. Boy, was this series crap.
The Ugly:
The Boys 55,60.
I enjoy the series but the violence is over the top disgusting.
