February is drawing to a close, short month but very productive one-somewhere over 150 comics or the equivalent read-the only things I read that I wasn't enamored with were some of the post-origin Dr.Fate stories from More Fun Comics collected in the GA Dr. Fate Archives and the New52 Futures End stuff which was kind of meh, mildly entertaining, but gave me no real desire to go out and read the next volume of it. I find I read more when I am reading stuff I like-shocking I know, but since I stopped reading newerish stuff and focused on reading stuff I have wanted to get to for a while, or revisiting old favorites I hadn't read in 15-20 years, I find I want to spend more time reading it and less with other media forms.
If I had to pick absolute highlights for Feb-the Howard Conan short stories, the Claremont/Cockrum early X-Men stuff, Raymond Flash Gordon, and the Goodwin/Simonson Manhunter stuff, but like I said I enjoyed just about everything this month.

Well 2015 is turning out to be an interesting year for me. I've read about a fifth of what I normally read by this point (59 books), but I've also written about five times more reviews than I usually do by this point (43), so I figure I'm on target.
The problem is, when you read less, and when most of what you read is for the purpose of review threads, you don't read that much AMAZING stuff. I really need to be purposeful about working more amazing reads into my regular rotation. The Will Eisner Read a Graphic Novel Week should be good for me in that respect.

As much as I've enjoyed the new King Features Phantom, Mandrake and Jungle Jim I think the new Prince Valiant was the best yet; not only did it honor the original strip but it gave us a unique look at Val as well. Being a huge fan of Hal Foster I am really interested in what they do with this series and I agree. I found this first issue to be really enjoyable.

February total: 106
Highlights: Astro City volume 2 is an incredible read. This title has quickly become one of my favorite superhero series of all time. Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run continues to be amazing and it was interesting to see such an early appearance of John Constantine.
Other highlights: Doctor Who: Voyager and Abslom Daak: Dalek Killer were both fantastic. Phil Foglio's Plastic Man mini series was really fun.

Between this Batman Eternal, Gotham at Midnight and Gotham Academy DC has had a great year. I grew up loving the newspaper strips and I was really worried about how that would translate into a traditional comic book; and while I did miss the flowery prose I think it still felt like a Prince Valiant story and even though I'm a long time fan I loved how new reader friendly it was, you could give this book to anyone and they'd enjoy it which is a rarity these days.

I find I have a vast hoarde of stuff I'm really excited to read, so that's good. Airboy was definitely my favorite this month...it had to have been extremely on topic at the time, because it reads and looks like a love letter to the 80s now. Excellent mix of character development and action.
I'm also enjoying re-reading some early Iron Man as I fill in my pre-100 issues, I got lots of stuff I want to revisit (and perhaps post about) soon if I can find the time.

Last two months have been pretty tight for comic reading. I crammed to finish the books I'd started by the end of February.
Partly it's been settling in to the apartment I moved to 6 weeks ago. Partly it's preparing to move yet again in under a month. Partly it's work. Partly it's that I've been using what time I have more for TV/film watching. Watched the first 3 seasons of The Wire recently. Have started getting Netflix films again, watched 3 film serials this month, and am keeping up with Walking Dead and Better Call Saul on AMC.
Hopefully I'll be moving to a place where I'll stay for at least a few years, and I'll have all my comics back, and should be able to build a routine that involves more time for comics.
The best of the month I just finished tonight. An early '90s manga called "The Walking Man". I picked it up on a whim from Barnes & Noble recently. Beautifully illustrated book, broken into 10 page stories, where each story is really just a man going for a walk around town, soaking up the life.
Beyond that, catching up on my more current books. Reached the end of the Belit saga in Wood's Conan series and the end of Superior Spider-Man.

84 in January, 84 in February
The medal stand for February
1. All Star Superman #5 (and the last shall be first) 2. JLA #15 (I reviewed #10, but #15 is my favorite of the Rock of Ages arc) 3. Secret Identities #1 (a new series from Image you might want to check out)

I finished February with 121 read which is about my range.
The Good:
Spider-Man 184,185, 189-200 I collected this run when they were coming out and they were just as enjoyable as before.
Avengers (v.1) 137, 273-287 I liked the George Tuska/Colletta combo where the Assemblers had to rebuild after the entire Celestial Madonna saga. And 273-287 featured the Stern/ Buscema run and the classic Under Siege story.
Daughters of the Dragon 1-6 I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this mini. Lots of action and nice appearances by villains and a look at the bail bondsmen of the MU.
Uncanny X-men ( v.1) 141,142 This classic 2 parter that was recently turned into a movie “ Days of Future Past” was doubly impressive because it took 2 issues. In today’s comics, it would be a 8 part mini with multiple tie ins.
Thor 210,222,224 I loved looking at Thor drawn by John Buscema and Joe Sinnott.
The Bad:
Fighting Forces 152, 159 I’m a big Kirby fan but Kirby stories of the losers just wasn’t my bag.
Hulk (2008) 5 Red Hulk beating Thor in zero gravity space? Seriously?
The Ugly:
Forever People 10 Deadman drawn by Kirby is a fail.

118 books read in February. I finished Marc Spector: Moon Knight and read 2/3 of the 2006 Moon Knight series as I continued my way through the entire Moon Knight series. Also read a lot of Marvel Team-Up and Marvel Two-In-One in Essentials format, which I borrowed from my daughter when I traveled to Houston and California earlier in the month.
Best thing I read this month was Marvel Team-Up #48-51, which was the Wraith saga co-starring Jean DeWolff. Really good stuff.
Worst thing I read this month was Marc Spector: Moon Knight #52-60. These were books that I literally contemplated just throwing away after reading them, because they were just atrocious. The worst of the bunch were the issues drawn by Stephen Platt, whose artwork was a poor rip-off of his soon-to-be Image colleague Todd McFarlane. I rarely ever feel like I wasted my time reading comic books, but these absolutely gave me that feeling.

The worst part is that even up to a couple of years ago, those issues were still going for $5 or more, partly because of Platt and partly because of the lower print runs due to the series winding down. Luckily, I don't think I paid more than a couple of bucks for any of them, even finding some in the $1 bins.

I also remember the early Gen13 being every pricy, and now you can get them for 1 buck and under. Rightly so. I can't stand when dealers keep the prices up long after it's popularity.
