6 1/2 comics in February. Go me!
My prose reading hasn't set the world on fire either.
And on comes the Reader's Block.

Wow, I cant believe I read nearly 300 comics in the past couple of months. I probably have had months where I read 145 comics in a month like February, but it has been a good while. It is probably a combination of the idea of keeping a list and then the winter weather being such a drag. I bet over the past couple years, I probably averaged reading 50-60 a month some less.
Like January, I really don't have too much to complain about quality wise on the comics I read. I really like the Star Wars reboot comics first few issues, they were fun, especially the Vader series.
To be honest, as much as I loved the first three movies I wrote all of Star Wars off for years because I was so disappointed in the dumb 'episode 1' movie. I've still never seen the two prequels.
The new Marvel issues got me curious on the Dark Horse comics, as I hadn't read any at all. Along with the review thread on the site, I got curious about re-reading the original Star Wars series as it was one of the gateway comics for me as a kid. I hadn't read any of those issues since I was a kid and I had a full run at one time and read the entire series. I have picked up the recent Marvel Star Wars Omnibus and being a fan of John Ostrander went to try the Star Wars: Legacy series. Both so far have been entertaining reads. It's interesting looking into this "expanded" Star Wars universe and kind of rekindled my interest in the film series again.
Everything else I read in Feb. was solid. DMZ and Scalped are both superior modern comics. I'm not saying they are perfect, but they are valid attempts at different types of fiction in comics. The last section of The Incal was WILD. I've now completed The Incal, The Technopriests and have started Before the Incal of the 'Jodoverse' series. They are excellent science fiction comics.
Off the rack, I read Nameless #1 a couple of times. It's another wild ride on the Morrison 'reality, what a concept' comic series.
Judge Dredd isn't as apocalyptic in Case Files Vol. 7, but I don't think you can say the quality has dropped off on the series. I kind of wish they maybe did more in how Mega City 1 rebuilt after the war. There was a story on the ones living in the rubble that they end up sending to the Cursed Earth, but not a whole lot else. Minor quibbles, as the progs you get are interesting.

Looking at my Feb. list and the thing that strikes me is the amount of severely everage books I read. Other than the Saga of the Swamp-Thing trade and Todd the Ugliest Kid, nothing stood out. Not saying theyre bad, just average, standard superhero(for the most part) fare. Even my beloved Legion from the mid 80s, which I always considered one of my favourite runs, is quite frankly boring in large sections. Thank god for Image (hands up everone who NEVER thought they would ever say that), they produce the most varied, consistantly great series of all the publishers.
...and I cant believe how much DC I read last month(its kinda lookin the same this month too), my tastes run more to Marvel so I guess theres a disproportionate amount of DC I havent read yet.
...big words...making brain hurt...

Just did a quick tally for the year to date and its approximately the equivalent of 313 comics not counting the prose works I read. Way ahead of the pace of the past few years, but not sure I can sustain the pace...winter weather may be breaking soon so not cooped up as much in the coming months...

Yesterday, I tried to take a comic to a beach park, so I could sit on a bench and read and look at the ocean. But it was just too windy to effectively read. So I put the comic away and enjoyed the beach.

I have to do that one of these days... of read bits of it, but never the whole thing in order... one more thing for the list when I catch up on things!

I have to do that one of these days... of read bits of it, but never the whole thing in order... one more thing for the list when I catch up on things! I had read like the first three volumes half a dozen times or so growing up but I had always borrowed them at the library. This month's anime focus in the classic film club got me in the mood and I had a bit of a disposable income so I just pulled the trigger and I'm glad I did as it's a whole lot of fun. Over all the anime did a fantastic job of adapting the story though they sure added their share of filler.

Haven't read a lot of "new" comics this year aside from Heavy Metal and some trades from the library, but caught up on all my Thrillbent series tonight-The House in the Wall, Valentine and Santa Claus: Private Eye, plus tried and read all of The Eight Seal ( A Lovecraftian take on West Wing by James Tynion) that was available. Unfortunately three of them are currently on hiatus so it will be a bit before I see new material on them, but there's a lot there I haven't sampled yet, so still getting my money's worth on the sub.

One comic for March. I'm actually reading more comics than I list but I'm not putting TPB's up until I finish them, and a lot of them get half read and put back on the shelf. So maybe I'll have a rush of finished comics later, or I'll have a lot of half read trades. I have had a bookmark in a Mickey trade for about a year now.

Slowish month for me... definitely felt like it was hit or miss for the new stuff. I really enjoyed re-reading the start of Books of Magic... and doing the X-Men thread has been really entertaining
