Well, assuming that it is, I give you July's theme: Universal Monsters!. Yes, I know we've already got October reserved for horror films, but this month is all about the classics! Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Phantom of the Opera, the Island of Lost Souls, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, etc. Non-Universal films from the same era are allowed. I will definitely be watching White Zombie this month. No hard-fast criteria, really. Some great horror classics from this era that absolutely capture the tone were neither made by Universal nor featured a clear monster at the center. Use your best judgment

They have sets for Frankenstein, the Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, Wolfman, & the Invisible Man. They include all of the sequels (Bride of, Son of, Hand of, etc) for the various creatures and also include the Abbott & Costello classics. So far I have three of them, Frankie, Mummy, & Creature. I'd like to add the rest, but the only downside is they repeat some of the movies on different collections if two or more of the monsters appear (Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, for instance, is on the Frankenstein, Wolfman, & Dracula).

Yep. I have the original pressings of the Legacy Collections from about a decade back. Pretty much the best home video collections of all time! 've actually had to buy my Frankenstein one twice after losing the first one! I lend it out constantly. Of course, the original sets had the opposite problem from what you've articulated: each film only appeared on one set. So, for example, you had to buy the Wolfman set to see Frankenstein vs. The Wolf Man. The Abbott and Costello film did not appear on any of the sets.

I'd forgotten about the non-duplicating movies in the original sets. I had watched those by borrowing from the library years ago. I guess of the two, it's better to get more movies without having to buy all the sets, though I'd still like to get the other three (Dracula, Wolfman, & Invisible Man). Though it's pretty close to criminal to not include the Abbott & Costello movies. A & C Meet Frankenstein is clearly one of the greatest monster movies of all time.

It and the Invisible Man sequels are the only Universal Monster films I've never seen. Will definitely be adding it to my viewing pleasure this month.

Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein is my favorite horror movie.
Which may say a lot about how I feel about horror movies.

Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein is my favorite horror movie. Which may say a lot about how I feel about horror movies. FWIW, I know a lot of hardcore "Universal horror" fans who revere the A & C movie. I also think it's the best A & C flick, too.

How could you not love a movie with Frankenstein, Dracula, & the Wolfman, with 2 out of the three portrayed by the genuine iconic actor (Bela Lugosi & Lon Chaney Jr.). Plus a surprise bonus at the end. I think I've mentioned this before, but when my wife and I got our first VCR back in the mid-80s, the first tape we rented to put in it was this one.

Plus when I started it just now from that link, it's missing the animated part of the titles at the very beginning. It's very short, but worth seeing.
