I've seen the Dark Corner with Lucille Ball.Very good noir and she was fine So have I, but the story behind her starring in that film is interesting. Ball was suing MGM to get out her contract. MGM wasn't having any of it and loaned her out to Fox for almost a third of her price. She was so miserable on the set, stating that director Henry Hathaway was a tyrant to her, reducing her to tears. Hathaway accused her of being tanked all the time.
The film is a good film, just almost a retread of Laura, even having Clifton Webb rehashing his role as the villain. Mark Stevens is good in it, as is William Bendix.

I was debating between John Carter, Looper, and Travelling Salesman. I forgot about Avengers. And Dredd. I do think John Carter is pretty awesome, but it was a choice I was shaky on. I fixed it. I am going to stand by Contact over Fifth Element, which was the contender.

First Contact is one of the few Star Trek movies I like. I think it's because a man they were taught to revere for his actions didn't end up being the kind of man they expected him to be. As if being an alcoholic bar brawler with all the smooth moves for the ladies that likes country music negated his accomplishments. Looking too much into what someone does can ignore the person they are which can make us forget that men with failings can still do great things.
I'm not nit picking, this is a completely honest question ... But how is Sneakers science fiction? I love the film. Still have it on VHS. I've watched many times and never thought of it that way. It was always a comedy/spy flick.

Alien 3 came out in 1992.
I saw it a few months ago for the first time. It's pretty good. I'd take it over Sneakers, which is an OK movie, but not as good as Alien 3.

And 1996 has Independence Day (which is completely watchable but not very good) and Mars Attacks! (which was one of the best movies of the year, although this particular distinction was recognized by a very small number of movie-goers.
Take your pick.

It was always a comedy/spy flick. It is many things, but certainly possesses science fiction elements. The centerpiece of the plot is an incredible new and probably impossible technology. Sounds like science fiction. I highly suspect it isn't the best film for the year, but I have no particular recollection of Alien 3.
