I thought this might make an interesting topic. One of the most popular plots that was used in comics and cartoons was when a villain uses hypnosis or cheesy mind control on a hero or heroine to make them do the villain's bidding. The was especially popular in the 60's & 70's.
For example, here is a clip from Super Friends where Wonder Woman was put under mind control.
In the Super Friends the writers used mind control a lot on the Superheroes, but Wonder Woman seems to be a villain's favorite in the series as thee a few other episodes where she was made to work for the villain of that week.
Can anyone think of other examples in Comics or Cartoons?

You could make a sub-topic just for the Squadron Supreme heroes at Marvel. It happened often enough that it was thrown back in the characters faces by the Avengers in the story itself.

I remember back during the pre-Claremont X-Men they fought shortly after one another the Maha Yogi (who had hypnotic powers), Sauron (who had hypnotic powers) and Mesmero (who had... you get the point) and then there was Lorelei who could hypnotize men. This was in a span off like 10-15 issues.

The Ringmaster's gimmick was hypnosis as well.

It is a very common device and one I've never liked that much. It always felt like a cheap way to introduce conflict between characters that would otherwise be unlikely to fight, or generally to get a particular individual to act out of character in some other way. All of which seems to indicate a lack of imagination on the part of a writer who can't come up with a story for the characters as given. Or, to be fair, the unfair demand that the writer think of a new story for the same character month after month, year after year.

The Puppet Master, of course, is another. There was a really good story with him in The Thing (1983) #5-6. Rather dark in more ways than one.

IMO the *funniest* use of hypnotism appeared in one of the TALES TO ASTONISH Giant-Man stories. When Giant-Man squares off against the villainous Magician, the criminal is able to subdue the hero by projecting hypnotic rays into g-M's eyes. The Magician helpfully explains that the hypnosis works even more quickly on Giant-Man because... (Are you ready?) Because Giant-Man's eyes are BIGGER.

I've joked several times that the X-Men's Polaris has been mindcontrolled so often over the years that you no longer need any powers for it, she'll just take your word for it.
