“Titans West Chapter 6 — The Guardians Global!”

Super Max, Maximum-Security Meta-Prison, The Cell of Hector Hammond...
The immortal telepath, Hector Hammond sat in his cell, his over-sized head was more than obvious, but his paralysis was something he never got over. His hatred of everything around him was even more obvious. He coldly read every mind in the prison, every guard’s greatest moments and their worst, every killer, every rapist, and every criminal. Everything was a boring short book to him. The days when he could challenge the Green Lantern was gone. The new one was young and inexperienced, not half the hero his father was(yet), none of the Lanterns were around anymore. The obnoxious one had died, the artistic one was usually in space, and they say the architect had retired to be with his family. How utterly boring.
The Justice League’s whelps weren’t a challenge either. A Superman stand–in, an almost Batman, and a new ethnic Flash. Where was the thrill of the challenge? The Titans West? What a joke. They weren’t anything but lab-rats. What else was there? The beginnings of an international group? The Suicide Squad? What thrill came from challenging them. The only thing of true interest was forcing two groups to fight over a misunderstanding. But there were only two groups who were foolish enough to fall for it. The Titans West and the Global Guardians. Both were brand-new, appeared to be insane, constantly arguing amongst themselves, and neither team was really filled with experience.
Hammond thought, and across the world, just outside of Russia, a gigantic monster appeared, a mental projection of a large Godzilla like monster. The true trouble for Hammond was getting the Russian military to not send in their Rocket Reds, and instead ask the Titans West and the Global Guardians for help.
***
The Dome, In-Between The Two Hemispheres...
The Dome was filled with noise, as the Russian military sent a distress call. Sending only the co-ordinates, and the word “invader”, Maxwell Lord the Fifth got his full team of five together. Though not the entire team, yet, they were the only members ready for combat. Lord had kept his eyes on three members only a month away from being ready. The Greek hero, The British hero and the German hero. The Greek hero was probably the closest to being ready. Lord found himself surrounded by the current Global Guardians team: Commander Steel of the United States of America, Ice-Warrior of Scandinavia, Rocket Red #9 of Russia, Lady Light of Japan and Impala of Africa. Lord quickly briefed the team, and sent them on their way.

The Metrotower, L.A....
The Titans West were assembled in the meeting hall when the distress call came in. They were given the same message as the Global Guardians. Wonder Warrior was suspicious of the message, but in wanting to handle the emergency before it got out of control, quickly split the team, sending five of the team to deal with the Russian situation: Kid Comet, Icemanling, the Arachnid, Starman and Bee-Sting. Leaving himself, Jemstone and Supergirl to protect the West Coast of the United States.
***
Later, in the country of Russia…
The Titans West land in their Silverstreak jet. Quickly, they spread out, searching for the invader. Only miles away from them, the Global Guardians land. They too split up, and look for the invader.
“Hey. Guys, I saw something move behind those trees!” The Arachnid yelled, watching Bee-Sting, Starman and Kid Comet soar above the trees and check. Only, this time, the sight was followed by icicles being fired at the Titans.
“I found the invaders!” Ice-Warrior yelled to the Global Guardians. He pushed through the tress and saw the Arachnid and Icemanling staring at him. “Heh, last thing I expected to find was a blue-skinned freak.” Ice-Warrior said, rushing Icemanling, tackling him to the ground.”
“Ice! Hang on, that loser’s about to--” The Arachnid started, before being pushed into the ground. The Arachnid managed to push himself up, and kick his attacker: Commander Steel. It was armor against steel-bones, and neither was weakened by the attack. “Waitaminute you’re not the kind of guy I wanna fight...”
“Just figure that out? I’m going to show you arrogant Titans that no-one gave you the right to invade another country.” Commander Steel said, punching the Arachnid, grabbing him, and pushing both of them into the ground.
Ice-Warrior and Icemanling continued fighting, Warrior seemed to have an upper-hand, constantly dodging attacks, and using hand-to-hand combat against the similarly powered Titan.
“What are you? A rip-off?” Icemanling asked, punching Ice-Warrior in the jaw.
“I was about to ask you the same thing.” Ice-Warrior muttered, freezing Icemanling’s feet to the ground before punching him constantly. “But, it’s clear you’re a cheap knock-off of the Ice-Warrior!”
Rocket Red #9 hit Kid Comet(his armor generating equal strength to Kid Comet). “Sorry, pally, but no invader gets past this Rocket Red!” #9 said, flying into Kid Comet, knocking him off-balance.
“Rocket Red...why isn’t the whole brigade here?” Kid Comet asked, not truly interested. He distracted the Rocket Red #9, and slipped away from him. Dropping onto the tress below. Trying to stay out of the path of attack. A boot connected with Comet’s jaw, and pushed him into the ground below. “Ow!” he groaned.
“You’re from the Titans West. Nice to beat you. The name’s Impala, and I’ve put up with you American super-groups before. You’re always as arrogant as you are powerful, I’m not interested in your kind of people. I’m here to help protect Russia,” Came Impala’s voice as he leapt from the trees and landed just an inch away from Comet.
“The Titans came to protect Russia...from inva--” Kid Comet tried to say but something was holding his tongue back. “We only want to help. You attacked us.”
“We stopped intruders, at the request of the Russian military. You arrogant heroes...what are you even doing here? Trying to look good?” Impala asked. “Rocket Red...he’s all yours. I’ll take the fool in the jacket.” Impala said, leaping into the trees. He thrustled towards Starman, before he was pulled down to the ground.
“Excuse me...Kid Comet, you had a point. My military trusts the Rocket Red Brigade more than this untested team. You believe in perhaps a manipulation?” Rocket Red said as he landed next to the fallen Kid Comet.
“Yes...I can almost feel it. A powerful telepath. He’s not controlling anyone, but he’s...or she’s watching us right now.” Kid Comet managed to say. He stood up, and leaned on Rocket Red. “Give me a minute, and I’ll telepathically scan for our manipulator, and we can gather up both teams and take the fight to him.” Kid Comet weakly said, smiling confidently.
“Can we at least see who wins?” Rocket Red #9 laughed.
“Y’know what? Yeah. Let’s call it a training exercise.” Kid Comet laughed. His sides ached, as if he’d been hit with a plane. “I could use the entertainment.”

Impala ran at Starman, leaping above the young hero before he could react. Impala slammed into Starman, knocking him off his feet, and into the ground. Starman got up, and took to the air. Flying above everyone, Starman saw Lady Light blind Bee-Sting, and incased her in a yellow bubble. “Lady Light, what are you doing here with these idiots?”
“Starman? I did not notice you before,” commented Lady Light. “I thought you had joined the Titans of Justice? What are you doing with these tresspassers?”
Before he could answer Lady Light’s question, he noticed Rocket Red and Kid Comet watching the fight. He then turned and saw Ice-Warrior and Icemanling attacking each other with everything they had and anything they could. Plus the Arachnid was being beaten by Commander Steel.
“Impala, stop! This isn’t getting anything done. Do you even know why you’re attacking my friends?” Starman asked, trying to buy time, and hopefully stop this stupid fight.
“You invaded this country. The Russian military wants us to stop you.” Impala answered, his knew it was over-simplified, but it worked for him, after all, it was the Global Guardians’ first mission.
“What? We came to stop the invaders…you attacked us!” Starman yelled.
“I think you’re convincing him!” The Arachnid called out, still being battered by Commander Steel. The Arachnid was flung into the trees and treated like a ragdoll.
“Shut up, you annoying bug!” Commander Steel said, obviously having listened far too much to his opponent’s wit. “Do you ever do anything but talk?”
“No. But I’m handsome. That counts for something right?” The Arachnid laughed, leaping up, he quickly moved away from the angry Commander.

The Dome, In-Between The Two Hemispheres…
“Commander Steel, this is Max. A new member is coming in to help you out. Be ready for our resident Greek hero,” Max radioed to Commander Steel. He’d been able to communicate with his team, but couldn’t see what was going on. He didn’t like that, not one bit. His team was untrained, and obviously against something that packed a punch. “Commander, do you hear me? Commander!”
“Mister Lord, your team seems to be lacking a lot, including respect for you.” A greasy man in an expensive business suit said, arrogantly. “The United Nations has agreed to fund this team’s life, but you seem to share your father’s lack of obedience, and perhaps the fate of his Justice League, and the Global Guardians that came before.” The businessman said making it obvious he was a representative of the U.N.
“I understand that, I do, but my team just got together. Obviously things aren’t going to be smooth on their very first mission.” Lord smirked, “Besides, I assure you, I’m nothing like the man my father became, I’m all business, trust me on that.”
“Maybe you’re not half the businessman your father was.”

Back in Russia…
Icemanling and Ice-Warrior continued their fight, having decided to try and freeze the other solid. Neither backed down as they fought blizzard to blizzard, both had collected snow on their shoulders, and anywhere else it would stick, but weren’t discouraged. Ice-Warrior’s lips turned blue, and as the twin blizzards continued, he started to look a lot like Icemanling.
“J---Just give up…” Ice-Warrior managed to say through frozen lips.
“N--Not me, sunshine. I’m at home in the cold…” Icemanling stuttered back.
“I’m the Ice-Warrior, I never back down…” Ice-Warrior chattered, managing to put on his bravest face. The two ice-powered adventurers collapsed, the cold having been too much for both men.
Impala’s fight with Starman continued. Though, Starman was out of ideas. He’d been taken down to the ground again, and Impala was definitely winning the fight. Starman dodged punches, kicks, and God only knows what else, before aiming his bracelet at Impala, and watching the experienced hero fall to the ground.
“Not easy to move with double the mass, right?” Starman laughed. He looked at the Arachnid still sparring with Commander Steel, and looked up to see how Bee-Sting was faring. While Starman looked up, a white and green blur approached the hero. The blur grabbed Starman, and ran with him, before Starman even knew what was happening, he hit a large rock.
“Sorry, friend, I didn’t the see rock there.” A man in a white and green uniform smiled, he had thick, black, curly, hair. “The name’s Hermes, I’m Greece’s representative in the Global Guardians.” Hermes smiled, “And, that man you just beat, is my new teammate, so you have to understand why I had to get you away from him.”
“Hermes? Greek Global Guardian? I don’t understand.” Starman mumbled, the hit from the rock already having an affect.
“I’m a member of the Global Guardians. I call myself Hermes, after the God of Speed. I can run really fast. Still not catching on?” Hermes smiled, “I suppose the pain from hitting your big head against a rock is distracting you. I’ve gotta go help my team though, so bye…” Hermes spat out, running to Commander Steel’s fight, running into the Arachnid.
“Who are you?” Commander Steel asked, as he saw Hermes, he looked away from the new player, and saw the Arachnid on the ground, not moving. “Thanks, you shut up the annoying bug but how’d you--?”
“I ran into him at MACH 6, I don’t think anyone can stand being run into at MACH 6, sir.” Hermes smirked, “I’m Hermes, the Global Guardians’ newest member.”
“Welcome aboard!” greeted Commander Steel. “Hey Red! Why aren’t you putting that “hero” into the ground?” Commander Steel called to Rocket Red. He wanted answers, and it was obvious Rocket Red and Kid Comet weren’t fighting.
“Should I fight for him, sir?” Hermes asked.
“No. Red has to have his reasons. I just hope Lady Light is doing better.”
In the air, Bee-Sting had no cover, and with an enemy like Lady Light, she had no chance. Lady Light was as powerful as a Green Lantern, and used her powers in brilliant and accurate ways. Bee-Sting was nearly blinded before, and her weapons had been disabled by tiny light particles being turned into energy bursts, disrupting Bee-Sting’s tech, all but her wing.
“Lady Light, stop! There’s no reason for us to fight. No point to it.” Bee-Sting said, flying closer to the ground.
“I don’t even know you. All I know is that you and your friends are invaders to this land. We have been called to stop you.” Lady Light said, “Once we are done, I can fight the evils that plague my home.”
“Then, stop fighting. We were told the same about you!” Bee-Sting said, dodging a light-blast.
“I think we’re done.” Kid Comet said, smirking as he watched Rocket Red raise his arm, and shoot into the air, getting the attention of both teams. “Titans! Guardians! We’ve been had by a common enemy. Hector Hammond. He used to mess with the second Green Lantern. Aren’t you all more interested in bringing a man to justice, rather than fighting for no reason whatsoever?”
“I think they’ll continue fighting, Kid Comet.” Rocket Red laughed, before stopping himself. “Sorry, couldn’t resist.”
“A mutual enemy? The Guardians have been active for the last 24 hours, and only fifteen minutes in the field.” Commander Steel called. He obviously wasn’t ready to accept Kid Comet’s excuse.
“Hammond set us up. I’ve located him, he’s in a secret prison just outside of Coast City. We can beat him. I know we can!” Kid Comet said, trying to get everyone to listen.
“He’s a telepath. Not all of us are protected from his manipulations…besides, he’s already in prison, what else can we do to him?” Commander Steel questioned,
“Because if you say kill him, I swear to God--”
“We pay him a visit. We make sure he can’t use his telepathy, we do the right thing…is that too much to ask?” Kid Comet said, coldly.

The Super-Max, Maximum-Security Meta-Prison, 2 hours later…
“Mister Hammond, you have visitors.” A guard’s voice said over an inter-com. Hector Hammond was surprised by this, he normally knew what the guard was going to say before he said it, and knew just how sad and pathetic the guard’s life was.
“What? I should have known…” Hammond complained, his cell door opened up, and in walked Commander Steel and Kid Comet, both gave Hammond glares of hatred.
“Hector Hammond, we know you manipulated the people of Russia, an American team of heroes, and an international team of heroes. Because of this, your sentence has gotten an extra 25 years to it, and your cell has been updated to block out any telepathic use.” Commander Steel said, “In 25 years, the Russian Government will jail you in a similar prison, no telepathy there either, and you will spend another 25 years in prison over there. Good day to you Mister Hammond.”

Outside of the Super-Max, Maximum-Security Meta-Prison…
The Titans West sat with the Global Guardians, Ice-Warrior talked to the Arachnid and Starman, the Arachnid bragged about defeating a raptor, while Ice-Warrior bragged about defeating the Fenris Wolf, solo. Bee-Sting, Rocket Red and Lady Light talked about the crime rings in Japan. Lady Light explained why she believed the Global Guardians would help her cause. Bee-Sting excused herself from the conversation, and walked up to Impala, asking him for an auto-graph. Icemanling spoke to the Greek Hermes.
“So, tell me, why “Hermes”?” Icemanling asked the Greek hero.
“My government decided that Hermes was a much safer power than Olympian. I think they didn’t want their hero to be disgraced again.” Hermes answered. “The costume wasn’t my choice either, but you deal with what you’ve got, right?”
“Yeah. I hate to ask, but are you doing anything Friday?” Icemanling nervously asked.
“No, you want to do something with me?” Hermes teased, but before he could get an answer, Commander Steel and Kid Comet returned.
“Guardians, pack it up, we’re going home.” Commander Steel commanded, the Global Guardians did so quickly, and soon their jet was headed back to the Dome. The Titans watched it leave, and got into their Silverstreak jet, silently leaving the prison behind.
