According to sources the outbreak was sparked during a conflict between Legion of Doom member Sinestro and fledgling super-hero Dark Arrow. “At present things look pretty grim, Bill. The fire spread rapidly and has already consumed approximately fifteen percent of the park. The Coast City Fire department has battled the fire for the past twenty minutes to no avail. Wait! It appears that Aquaman has just arrived on the scene!
Aquaman, what happened to the other members of the Justice League, and how do you expect to be able to quench these raging flames?”

Carol Jordan threw the remote control in the hotel chair in disgust. Why didn’t any station have any news about the safety of her husband or son? Kneeling at the hotel bed she thought about her father. She took it very hard when he finally passed away a few years back after a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease. Not knowing where else to turn, she immersed herself in her executive position at Ferris Aircraft. But now she realized that she had been a fool. “Why have I spent so much time away from my son? Why have I had so little time for my husband?” Now she could be facing losing them both. Carol cursed herself for prioritizing her career. What could possibly be more important than her son? How could she put her stupid job before her loving husband? When her father died she felt so empty, but now, with no news about her son and husband she felt both empty…and alone. Hugging her pillow she prayed, “Lord, please spare my baby…and take care of Hal. They are all I have in this world...”

The California Desert
“This has got to be the absolute worst day of my life.” thought Daniel Jordan as a giant green hand ushered him away from the blades of an even larger pair of golden scissors. While trying to catch his breath he watched the scissors shatter as an emerald hammer slammed down on them with an alarming force. Daniel wondered how he could have possibly gotten himself in this mess. His thoughts turned to regret as he watched the evenly matched Green Lantern and Sinestro in aerial battle. There was so much he did not know about his father. “I cannot believe dad is Green Lantern. How could I have missed this for nearly eighteen years?” Suddenly a series of knives shot toward Daniel. The green hand that held him shot across the landscape and let him down on the far side of a rocky hill. Looking in the sky he could see a giant green bat swing at the demonic figure of his father’s enemy. Daniel’s heart began palpitating as a rotating yellow saw halved the bat and shot toward the Green Lantern. Though horrified at the scene, Daniel could not help but admire his father’s skill as he dodged the saw and used his power ring to form a giant boxing glove.
[glow=green,2,300]POW!!!![/glow]
“Yes!” shouted Daniel as Sinestro fell to the desert floor. “All right, Dad!” he cheered as a giant green boot kicked the alien’s body skyward again. Daniel had always loved his father, but now he looked at him as a hero. “No wonder he was always gone.” He thought as Sinestro dangled from a giant pair of green tweezers in the sunset. Suddenly Daniel’s heart stopped as Sinestro’s glowing amber eyes widened. Bursts of energy from both opponents rings shot forth.
[glow=red,2,300]BOOM!!![/glow]
Silence followed. Daniel could not see anything for the great cloud of desert dust. Against his better judgment Daniel ran towards the center of the dust cloud until he found his father lying still in a pile of reddish colored rocks.
“…Dad?” asked a voice of concern.
“Daniel…I’m so sorry...” Green Lantern said struggling for breath. “I…”
“Dad, lie still. What can I do to help you?” asked Daniel.
“The ring…take it. It runs on willpower…and I don’t know anyone more strong-willed and…and...stubborn than...”
“…me?” interrupted Daniel with a tear in his eye and a faint smile.
“…yes.” answered his father with a soft laugh. Hal Jordan removed his ring and passed it to his son amused by the irony that he was passing on his ring in the exact same location that Abin Sur had passed it on to him so many years ago. “Defend yourself. I’m proud of you., son. I know you can do this.” He said as he passed out.
“You are my hero.” Daniel whispered as a tear traced his jaw line.
“What a poignant scene.” mocked an eerie alien voice. The hairs on Daniel’s neck stood out straight as he turned to see Sinestro levitating just six feet away from him. Before the young man could react he found himself in the clutches of a yellow fist and drawn within four inches of the face of the reddish colored alien. Noticing a yellow patch on Sinestro’s left nostril, Daniel ripped it off with all of his might.
“AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!” screamed Daniel’s adversary with both hands over his nose. Dark violet colored blood gushed forth from the alien’s nose. The golden hand which gripped the son of the Green Lantern dissolved dropping Daniel Jordan two feet to the ground. The teen-ager landed on his feet, but soon found himself involuntarily bent over gagging from the pungent odor of the dark purple liquid which now stained the sweaty jogging clothes of Daniel’s friend Robert. Tossing the garments to the ground Daniel donned the ring of his father and the mask of his best friend in preparation for the battle of his life. Suddenly Daniel found himself clothed in a uniform of green and black. It seemed to fit perfectly. Then he noticed the wrathful countenance of his father’s enemy.
“You. WILL. PAY!” growled Sinestro as a series of yellow hatchets, knives, and axes burst forth from Sinestro’s energy ring and hurled towards Daniel Jordan. Without thought Daniel’s ring formed a shield, which protected both him and his father. But as the golden weapons came faster they also grew larger and the emerald shield began to crack.
It is amazing how many thoughts go through one’s mind when one faces death. Daniel felt a sense of terror at Sinestro's violent wrath. At the same time he felt a sense of responsibility to protect his father. A sense of peace from finally understanding why his father had spent so little time with him calmed him, and yet the threat of imminent extinction left him feeling cold. Daniel was ready to meet the God he loved, but was he ready to allow his father to die with him? The analytical mind of Daniel continued thinking as larger and even more terrifying weapons sped his way “What if he does kill us?” Daniel questioned himself. “Will he just go home then?
…No, he will go find Rob and finish him off…
…and then Aunt Dinah…and maybe then he will go looking for mom…and when he traces Rob and Aunt Dinah back to Star City…” Daniel’s heart skipped a beat.
“…Di Di!”
Daniel’s shield grew more solid. A second beam shot from Daniel’s ring and through the barrage of on-coming weapons and pummeled Sinestro in the chest. Suddenly Daniel longed for the simpler days of his childhood. Those violent cartoons he wasn't supposed to watch seemed so tame compared to what he faced now…and then he got an idea. Looking skyward Daniel formed a giant green anvil with the letters ACME on the side. “Take that, Wyle E.!” he said as the anvil plummeted towards the head of Sinestro.
“Foolish brat!” exclaimed Sinestro as he grew 50 foot tall and caught the green anvil in his arms. “Never look where you are forming your weapons!”
Daniel was initially terrified at the alarming size of his enemy. Then his mind went back to the beginning of the horrible day and he remembered the Bible passage he had read. Daniel listened to his foes’ advice. Suddenly a glowing young man appeared at the side of Daniel Jordan. It was of a greenish hue, but it glistened as white as snow in the brightness of the sun. The figure had five stones in one hand and a sling in the other. Remembering his father’s instructions, Daniel Jordan willed the figure to fire a stone at the evil giant before him. The force of the stone made a deep indentation between Sinestro’s eyes and he fell prostrate on the ground.
[glow=red,2,300]THUD![/glow]
Then without warning Daniel Jordan, his father, and Sinestro all vanished into thin air.
“…holy moley!" whispered the sole witness to the scene. Captain Marvel had arrived to late to help or to understand what had just happened. He decided to continue flying on toward Coast City and help Aquaman in the effort to control the fire at Coast City Park. Perhaps the King of the Seven Seas would know what to do next.

The Planet Oa: The Center of the Universe
Daniel Jordan scanned the room he found himself standing in. He could see through the crystal-like walls to the star-filled sky outside. Dozens of short, white haired, blue-skinned men were seated in a circular platform before him. “Surely, this isn’t heaven.” he said in whispered awe.
“Greetings, Daniel Jordan of planet Earth. We are the Guardians of the Universe. You have been chosen to be the new Green Lantern of sector 2814.” said the blue-skinned creature in the center.
Awaking in a stupor, Hal Jordan asked in surprise, “You’re replacing me?”
“No, Green Lantern 2814.1. The Guardians of the Universe could never replace their greatest Green Lantern.” answered a female guardian robed in scarlet.
“John Stewart has chosen to retire from the Green Lantern Corps. His wife is with child and he desires to spend more time with his family.” answered a third guardian sporting a long braid.
“...Mari’s pregnant?” asked a shocked Hal Jordan.
“Dad!” whispered Daniel Jordan, “Where are we? What is this place?”
“You are on the planet Oa, Daniel Jordan. The Guardians of the Universe have been watching you for sometime now.” informed a fourth guardian. Hal Jordan arched his brow.
“We request that you return your father’s ring.” said the female guardian.
Daniel’s eyes widened. He felt as if he had done something wrong. “Sh-shu-sure,” he stuttered, “of course.” He removed his ring and gave it to his father as he helped him up.
The Guardian in the center of the congregation seemed to float above the floor as he approached Daniel with an extended hand. He opened his hand to reveal a green ring identical to Hal Jordan’s. “To be a Green Lantern is a high honor that comes with great responsibilities and sacrifices. Your ring must be recharged with a battery of power every twenty-four of your earth hours.”
Another guardian approached Daniel offering a green power battery in the shape of a Lantern. “Once charged the rings energy is controlled by your will and will create anything you can imagine and will into existence.”
“Will you accept this ring?” asked the guardian who bore the ring.
“What do you say, son?” asked Daniel’s proud father.
“I can’t believe this is happening! YES!!!!” exclaimed Daniel as he snatched the ring.
“Your father will accompany you to the main power battery.” said the other guardian as he handed the newly appointed Green Lantern his own personal battery of power.
Another guardian approached Daniel Jordan. “Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps. You will now begin a one-year training period. Your trainer will be Green Lantern Hal Jordan of planet Earth.”
“Welcome to the Corps, son!” said Hal Jordan as he warmly shook Daniel’s hand.

The father-son Green Lantern team of sector 2814 stood at the colossal main Green Lantern Power Battery on Oa. Both men held their rings proudly to the battery:
[shadow=green,left,300]“In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might beware my power: Green Lantern’s light!”[/shadow]
Then, turning to his son, Hal Jordan asked with a smile, “How would you like to go on a road trip?”

Epilogue: The Planet Korugar
The past three months had been the worst of Qel-hihn’s eighteen years. Her hatred of her father sent her spiraling downward and out of control. Once, she was one of the most respected students of Korugar’s finest academy. Now the violence of her juvenile delinquency had caught up with her and she was hopelessly sentenced to spend the remainder of her youth as a lowly worker in the detention mines of Qhwon-dhorr. Thoughts of hatred consumed her. Her father truly was evil and justly deserved his title of “the evil Sinestro.” She was enraged at the arrogance of those terrorists in the Judgment League. If only she had a way to exact revenge on all of them! The force of her swing grew harder and harder as she thought on her father’s treachery until ultimately her mining tool broke…
…and then she saw it. The legend of Sinestro’s ring taught that her father’s wickedness was too great for the green lantern ring. When the ring was overcome with Sinestro’s evil the weapon burst into three gems: a blue one and a crystal one, both of which had never been found, and the golden one, which Sinestro wears on his right hand. Qel-hihn never actually believed the story, but how else could she explain the crystal she now gazed upon? It seemed to beckon to her. She stooped down and hesitated…and then she picked it up.
[glow=purple,2,300]Fwashhhhhhhhhhhhh! [/glow]
She was immediately transformed. The once homely teen now was the image of Korugarian beauty. Her hair grew downward to the level of her knees. It shined with a black glamour. Her complexion cleared and radiated. Her eyelids sparkled above her now piercing blue eyes. Her eyebrows were now prominent and spoke of an evil beauty. She used the crystal’s power to create a hand mirror. Pleased with her newfound beauty she ordered the gem to reshape itself into a necklace, which she displayed as an accessory to her floor-length white gown. Drunk with power, her body spun wildly into the skies. She reveled in the echoes of her laughter.
“Evil has a new face!” she boldly proclaimed, “but who could expect less…
… from Sultana, the daughter of Sinestro?”
