El Paso, Texas, Four years further into an alternate future…
The Blue Beetle smoldered on the ground, he didn’t know what hit him, but he did know it was painful, and that whatever it was had fought the scarab before.
The Scarab screamed in Beetle’s ears, it was afraid, not like with the Lantern rings, it was something else, like a warning, but Jaime couldn’t understand it. The hero managed to groan as his wings appeared from his ‘Bugpack’, and he flew.

Destiny is hard to find, a man can search for years and never find his. That is not the case for Aaron Kidd, all he wanted was to be able to say he did something, to look back and laugh. Hired by the former Martian Manhunter, who headed Infinity Incorporated, the company, not the team, Aaron was confronted with being dragged to help Jaime Reyes, the Blue Beetle.
He was dragged into it by time-line protector Booster Gold, the one and only hero who no-one ever respected, he made sure of that, after ruining his name, twice over.
Destiny found Aaron Kidd…this is his story.

The Infinity Incorporated Martian Jet…
“Um, Mister Jones, sir, I’m a little worried we’re crashing…” Aaron said, worriedly.
“What gives you that idea?” Booster asked, quizzically, looking at Aaron.
“The beeping, the glowing red, and the fact the ground’s getting closer.” Aaron retorted.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
“What’s going on J’onn?” Booster asked, insanely loudly.
“The jet is running into some interference, that’s all.” J’onn said, trying to keep calm, he shifted to his current default form; that of a green skinned man is a suit; he even had eye-brows now. The only thing that made him look inhuman was his green skin.
“If I may, sirs, this is hardly to time to be arguing. It’s time to get out of the jet.” Skeets interrupted.
“Bail,” Booster smirked, “Time to go ‘Snapper’, before we find out what the ground feels like.” Booster smirked as a Boostershot blasted from his hand, making an escape.
He flew out of it, easily, taking Aaron with him, not amusing the hired help. They were followed by Skeets, and then J’onn, who looked at the jet as it landed.
“Still a few hours away from El Paso,” J’onn muttered, “I think it’s time I learned what it is I’m fighting here. Skeets, I know you know.” J’onn angrily said as he turned to face the robot.
“The Eye of Ra, alias, the Eye of Horus, it was an enemy of the original Blue Beetle, shortly before his death. It once manipulated Infinity Inc., specifically the Silver Scarab.” Skeets said, quickly, “It is a powerful force, and it wants revenge. We’re here to make sure Jaime loses the Scarab, and…well, sacrifices himself to save Earth. It inspires Aaron here to be a hero. Leading to that team you want to make.”
“Did you catch all that?” Booster asked, smirking.
“Very well, but, I will not let anyone die today.” J’onn commanded, in an instant, he was gone. Leaving Booster holding Aaron, and Skeets floating alongside.
“Oh man, J’onn’s mad. What made him like this Skeets?” Booster asked his companion.
“I wish I knew, maybe Rip does.” Skeets responded.
“Gypsy died, they say the Manhunter was never the same again. Quit the hero biz, had an aptitude for business. Infinity Incorporated was created by him shortly after the Black Orchid Massacre. His wall is full of pictures of those who died that night, those that died who he worked with.” Aaron said, “See, Mister Jones is a businessman now, because he lost too much.”
“Makes sense. But, d**n, that’s not the J’onn J’onzz I know.” Booster said, he held Aaron a little tighter and he became a yellow blur, following J’onn.
“Slow down! For the love of God slow down!” Aaron screamed, but he could barely be heard over the rushing wind.
In only a few short hours, or maybe minutes, but it seemed like hours, they arrived in El Paso, home to the Blue Beetle. Booster had long lost sight of J’onn, but needed to set Aaron down, he wasn’t sure he liked this, for only another possibility to exist, Booster needed to ensure Jaime Reyes lost the scarab, in a horribly gruesome way. It made the former media darling sick to his stomach.
Aaron looked around at El Paso, it seemed so peaceful, until he heard an ungodly sound he’d have to get used to…
The Eye of Ra was mad. Insanely so, the magical, whatever it was, was rampant with anger, it was trying to rip the scarab to pieces, Aaron could hear the Scarab scream, but, that was impossible. Unless Mister Jones wasn’t kidding when he claimed Aaron was a cyberpath. A being able to mentally communicate with machines.

A few miles above the ground, about, oh, 1000 feet…
J’onn J’onzz screamed in agony, he wasn’t quite the fighter he used to be, having retired so long ago, but, he was still one of the most powerful beings in existence, second only to Superman in raw strength.
The Eye of Ra didn’t care. It only wanted its revenge. The powerful magical whatever charged with energy, and sent forth a spiral of pure chaos magic. The spiral engulfed the hero who dared get in its way. The Eye kept its invisible grip of Blue Beetle, having captured him before the interloper’s arrival.
J’onn stared at his enemy, his eyes blood red, if the Eye was human, or even a physical being, it would understand the hatred boiling up in the normally peaceful survivor of Mars. J’onn sped forth, in a blur, changing to his classic costume in an instant, almost in second nature. J’onn hit the eye at six times the speed of sound, causing it to lose its grip on the Blue Beetle.
“Are you okay?” J’onn softly asked his cool, calm voice remained his best aspect after all these years. “Jaime? The Justice League will arrive shortly.”
“Ma…ian…” Jaime coughed, barely able to speak, he couldn’t hear himself think over the Scarab’s cries of…of… Jaime didn’t even know what the Scarab was trying to say. “Thanks.” Jaime muttered.
J’onn softly flew to the ground, he knew the Eye followed him, he knew it, he laid Jaime on the ground, near Aaron, and Booster, and smiled. He looked at those he surrounded himself with, and smiled, before disappeared in a blur.
“Oh no.” Booster muttered, so low, no-one heard him. “I can’t lose him too.” Booster said; he flew after J’onn in a golden blur, not caring who saw him, only caring that he had to save his friend, maybe his last remaining friend.
“What?” Aaron turned to Skeets, “Do you understand this? Who’s the bug guy? What’s Mister Jones doing? Why’s Booster being so weird?”
“Mister Kidd, shut up and let the heroes do as they always do.” Skeets responded.
“I heard that means Booster hires his enemies.” Aaron muttered.
“I’d like you to shut up, Booster did that to make himself look bad so to act as Supernova under my radar. It’s a long story.”
“Supernova?” Aaron snickered, “How lame is that?”
“Says the only guy who remembers the Marx Brothers,” Skeets hummed.
“How do you know about that?” Aaron asked.
“Know about what?”

A little bit higher up…
“J’onn! It’s okay buddy, I’m here. You’re okay.” Booster smiled down on the green man he called friend.
“Booster, it’s after the scarab. It thinks that Jaime is Dan Garrett.” J’onn coughed. Weakly, he lapsed into unconsciousness. The Martian couldn’t put up with the force put into him. The immense magic he encountered was enough to kill Superman, but J’onn could shift his form and keep himself from falling to it straight away.
“What the--?” Cried Jaime Reyes, finding himself hanging upside down 200 feet above his hometown. “Huh…it truly disturbs me that this isn’t at all weird to me.” The Blue Beetle said, looking to see Booster Gold holding the green JLA guy.
“You’re awake!” Booster smiled, still holding his friend, “Can you free yourself too? I’ve kinda got my hands full.” Booster laughed.
“Hey, Eye-Guy. Do whatever it is you’re going to do to me now, please.” Jaime said, in a tone of contempt.
The Eye blasted through Jaime, ripping into the hero’s spine, and ripping out the Scarab. Jaime saw his blood dripping over his costume, before the wound closed up. His wing appeared, and his powers still worked, just fine. Except he couldn’t feel his legs, and he knew his time was nearly up.
The hero swooped into the Eye. Attacking it to no avail, Jaime could feel his powers slowly drain, but felt his spine correct itself. He recognized that the Scarab had given him some of its power, so that he didn’t need to rely on it as much, but, whatever the Scarab did wouldn’t last.
Jaime saw the scarab falling down to the ground, and saw a blast of energy go after it, the Eye was out to destroy, and Jaime watched as the blue bug-shaped weapon landed at the feet of a guy standing next to Booster’s little robot.
Then there was an explosion of blue and only smoke could be seen afterwards. Jaime assumed that the guy had been killed. He stared at the creature and latched onto the energies that made it visible. And then, they were gone. Like Jaime did for a year, before he became a hero, just after finding the Brother Eye, Jaime disappeared, taking the Eye with him, to forever live out a frozen moment in a pocket dimension. Jaime did this not out of hatred, not because he wanted to hurt the Eye back, but because he wanted to save the lives of El Paso, because he loved his home.
He lies in that pocket dimension, watching El Paso from beyond, hoping it will remain safe.

The Crater that was once Aaron Kidd…
“This doesn’t look good…” Skeets hummed, he had somehow been missed by the blast from the sky, the one that engulfed Aaron Kidd. Looking around what was now a crater, he scanned for the cyberpath, hoping to find him. Though he didn’t have much luck.
Aaron was lying in a mist of rocks and dirt, wearing torn clothes and fragments of the scarab. The pieces glowed an unsightly color, no longer blue, like they had absorbed the energies of the Eye of Ra. Before Aaron could even wake up from the force of the explosion, the pieces sunk into him. He woke up his eyes glowing blue, and he screamed, seeing tiny blue, glowing pieces of machinery sinking into his skin. He let out a scream of pure alien language, one only Jaime Reyes had heard. Then, his eyes rolled into the back of his head, and he passed out.

L.A., one year later…
“Wow.” Smirked Wonder Warrior, looking at the sight before him, to him, what he and his new allies had just done was straight from the history books. He looked upon the sight of people being freed from Starro’s influence, and smiled, floating slightly above ground.
“Did we just do that?” Kid Comet asked, looking around, looking quite pleased with himself, a clean-shaven face made him look just like his father.
“My dad will love this story.” Came the cheery voice of Palomé.
“We totally did this. Justice League style.” Bee-Sting laughed, before looking at Palomé, she smirked at the sight of him, liking what she saw.
“Hah! See, I told you guys, ‘The original League beat it with salt’, I said, ‘No way’ you all said.” The Arachnid bragged, clearly younger, or just more immature than his new allies.
“We would’ve believed you if you didn’t keep saying that you were so brilliant. And kept claiming you were famous, and…” Wonder Warrior said, before he was cut off.
“You’re just jealous.” The Arachnid said, in a Daffy Duck like manner.
“Man, we should totally get together to do this from now on.” Came the cheery Palomé’s voice again. “The New Teen Titans maybe?”
“No way, we’re clearly not all teens, man.” Kid Comet said, “The Doom Patrol?” He shrugged.
“No way, that one’s taken. Don’t you know about the guys who’ve taken the Black Orchid Massacre’s victims’ names and costumes? They call themselves that. It’s nice to honor heroes, and all, but…there’s already a Doom Patrol.” Bee-Sting shot back.
“How about…Young Justice?” Wonder Warrior offered. He wasn’t sure if there was a name that suited them better, but, that didn’t stop him from trying to think of something else.
“I’ve got the perfect one.” The Arachnid laughed, his egomania made all eyes draw themselves to him, “Titans of Justice, after those guys killed by Mordon. Since we’re on the West Coast, why not Titans: West Coast?”
“Make it, Titans West.” Wonder Warrior offered. Smiling widely, he put his hand out, in the middle of the circle the group had formed. “My name’s Wonder Warrior.”
“I’m Palomé, the son of Risk and Raven.”
“Call me Kid Comet.”
“Bee-Sting’s the name.”
“My name,” The Arachnid began with a sigh, he was a little uncomfortable with this already, despite the fact they’d just helped save the city, “is Arachnid.”
Their hands came together, one on top of the other, making a pact, a silent oath to be the heroes they were destined to be, together. The legend grew from there.

Rip Hunter’s Time Sphere…
“It’s a real shame that particular world will be wiped out, so that a brighter tomorrow will shine.” Rip Hunter said, staring at the screens showing the soon to be wiped from existence reality.
“Nice…” Booster said, a little annoyed at wasting his time, “So, why’d I have to make sure that wannabe Blue Beetle was made?” Booster asked, coldly.
“Without him, another possible future would die. He needs to be there when a great disaster of apocalyptic proportions strikes the reality of the Titans of Justice. Or maybe, if they play their cards right, it won’t happen.” Rip explained. “Either way, his destiny had to be ensured.”
“So, Bug-Boy might just save the day in the end?”
“Anything’s possible.”
-The End-
The Blue Beetle smoldered on the ground, he didn’t know what hit him, but he did know it was painful, and that whatever it was had fought the scarab before.
