Titans of Justice Unlimited #17 – “The Terror From the Multiverse Pt. 1 of 4”

Earth 3, The Mall of Sin…
Blood filled the Mall of Sin, the war was over. Corpses filled the Mall of Sin and left it filled with the smell of death. To the Syndicate of Terror, it was the smell of victory. The new version of the team stood triumphant At their feet was the last of those who dared to try and stop them. Mega Guy was at Ultra Girl’s feet, his chest covered with his blood. His black body suit ripped in several places, each exposing a horrible wound. His blue cape was covered with his blood, and he was now a foot rest.
Among this Syndicate was a few new surprises. Behind the East team’s back, Avatar, Ultra Girl and Cosmos betrayed their team, while Miniscule, Power Ring and Daysight betrayed Mega Guy’s plan to take over Avatar’s territory and his wife.
With Avatar controlling the Anti-K supply, it was easy to weaken Mega Guy until he was on his last foot. Ultra Girl killed him herself, much to her parents’ glee. She planned to take his corpse to her mother, as a peace offering, so she could get that witch’s lasso.
Power Ring, the latest cursed man to take the ring was an out and out Satanist if you ever saw one. He believed in making ritual sacrifices to his dark lord, and had long black hair that went down past his shoulders. The twisted maniac was the one to kill Frostbite, by taking his head clear off.
Then there was Miniscule, a little pervert who spied on his teammates in their most private moments. It was child’s play to blackmail those he spied on, and then have them killed by Avatar, or one of his stronger new teammates.
Daysight was another story. The son of Talon and Owlgirl, he wore a bright, mainly yellow costume that made it impossible to catch him in daylight, it reflected to sun, blinding his enemies. A tactical genius, mass murderer, and the man who killed his own parents to steal their equipment, and killed the girl of his dreams because he thought she was too nosy.
Of the newest recruits was Raptor, who took an axe to Fly-High’s head when he visited her war loving planet a year ago. She was a disturbed young girl who Power Ring had more than expressed his interest in.
Avatar remained the dominating man he always was, and was leader of this group. He managed to do the smart thing however, by giving Daysight the Predator to keep, instead of killing her. He didn’t care what Daysight did, so long as the tactician was on his side.
Ultra Girl was still an Anti-K junkie. She now regularly overdosed, expecting her powers to keep her alive. She had Mega Guy’s stash in her possession as well. However, she was now interested in Cosmos, and started having an affair with him constantly, every time Avatar was otherwise preoccupied.
Cosmos was a backstabbing collector, who now had taken the Jokester’s giant playing card from the Owl’s Nest, when he traded his alien wife Aleea Strange to Daysight.
The very face of their Earth had changed. An upstart organization was almost beginning. Younger villains wanting to be the Syndicate that Avatar decided he would have officially join, but kept them in the Mall’s dungeon with the Familiar keeping them powerless and in eternal torture.
This was Avatar’s heaven. Outside the Mall were slave drivers and slaves. All doing his bidding. There was no more of the other Syndicate to bother him, and he didn’t kill Comet King, oh no, he instead had left him on an alternate world full of murderous heroes to see if he could survive.
But one thing still evaded Avatar, one thing that annoyed him greatly; the Titans West. They had humiliated him, and he wanted his revenge. He was beaten by fools and he had the little pervert scientist, who kept Dark Lady at subatomic size in a subatomic world full of creatures that served him so he could have something to call his own, figure out what went wrong.
When Miniscule came back with an answer, it happened to be that their world simply couldn’t let them win. The same apparently worked for their world. Even though Avatar had never believed in such a thing as a fair fight before, he knew now he needed to find a world that didn’t bring about this rule.
Miniscule had become adept at using the multiverse to find his way to other worlds. It was a way to get rid of the bodies that were left around the Mall.
“Avatar?” Miniscule said one evening, when he finally came up with the answer Avatar sought so furiously. He had entered the tyrant’s bed chambers, and caught his first glance of a naked Ultra Girl who slept as Avatar commanded her too.
“What is it you little fool?” Avatar said, stepping out of the bed, not caring that he was unclothed at all, in fact, Avatar cared very little about Miniscule, feeling the gawky little thing needed to see what a real man looked like.
“I’ve found the right Earth. Earth-4 doesn’t have the rule that fixes the fight their way or ours. However, if we were to encounter someone from Earth-4, the rule would apply. Luckily, it would appear their heroes are long retired.” Miniscule wheezed, not taking his eyes off of Ultra Girl.
“Are their any others?” Avatar asked, getting his costume on, hearing the moan of the entrapped Shadow Man, who he used much like his ‘sissy-girl’ counterpart in pink used that invisible material.
“Earth-2, but they have heroes there. Infinity Inc.” Miniscule said, finally looking at Avatar, who was now in costume.
“Earth-2 sounds good to me then. We can get this Infinity Inc. to fight those who dare bring us good names.” Avatar laughed. “Besides, it’ll be much more fun. Round up the satanist and the teenaged alien. Get Daysight and Cosmos here. And Miniscule, inform the Familiar that we’re leaving and that he is to make certain the slaves of the world stay miserable.”
“Yes sir.” Miniscule said, darting out of the bed chambers, wishing he’d recorded footage of Ultra Girl. The sniveling little man ran to tell the others they were kidnapping alternate doubles of them, and taking them to another world to battle. As Avatar commanded.

One Day Later…
The Syndicate of Terror lined up in front of a new device. The team wore their costumes proudly. Ultra Girl had updated to show a little more of her ‘growing up’ is the only term I’ll use. Raptor dressed as a barbarian would. Her battle-axe ready as she nibbled on Power Ring’s ear, who in turn was clad in a green and black costume.
Avatar looked as he did before. Before history tells us the Titans West were made part of the Titans Unlimited. The Syndicate instead of growing took both teams and cut them down until it was Avatar’s game.
The Syndicate of Terror proudly went to work. Miniscule assured him that it would transport both the Syndicate and their counterparts of ‘New’ Earth to Earth-2, Miniscule promised that it would take both teams to this neutral Earth so Avatar could have his revenge.
The machine before them hummed to life, and soon the seven Syndicate members were transported through the multiverse.

Meanwhile, aboard the Javelin, New Earth…
The Global Guardians were hitching a ride home with a small team of the ToJU. The two teams came together to stop the Shaggy Man who was ransacking Africa. There were five Titans aboard the Javelin with ten members of the Guardians.
The Guardians had replaced Lady Light with Rising Sun II, the niece of the original. Apparently Max had felt bad about the argument with Lady Light, and was more than willing to make up for it. He was also offering all sorts of deals with the Titans over the communicator. Among the new members was Flame Fury, Fire’s daughter. Who seemed to be talking exclusively to Ice-Warrior and the Spider-Star Team. The Javelin may have been crowded, but both teams were putting it to good use.
Commander Steel and Wonder Warrior were talking about leading ethics, and how too many people in charge may affect team morale. Wonder Warrior was arguing that the current team was too big to not have more than one leader.
Power Storm was at the Javelin’s controls. With Rocket Red #9 helping him as the two seemed to share different cultural stories. Impala was near them, choosing not to do or say anything, as he put up with the Wild Huntsman’s stories, and listened to the new Little Mermaid talk about her team-up with Whirlpool some months ago.
The last two Guardian members were sitting in their seats. The new Beefeater and Crimson Fox talked to Hawkgirl, suggesting places on this new world for her to visit. Hawkgirl was taking it all in, taking notes as they told her about Paris and London, and all these other quaint places from their countries.
Before either team knew what happened, Wonder Warrior, Starman and Hawkgirl were sudden.y gone. Power Storm and the Arachnid seemed the least concerned, but Beefeater seemed especially disturbed.
“What the bloody hell just happened?” The British hero demanded in a shocked monotone voice.
“Huh. I didn’t think Spaceman was due to visit Aleea again for another month.” The Arachnid laughed.
“Um, bug-breath, you know Starman’s not the only one missing, don’t you?” Power Storm asked, shaking his head, “Red, can you take us down to the Hall? I’ll open contact with Power Guy and ask him if they can help track down our missing Titans.” Power Storm said quietly, walking over to the Javelin’s nearest communicator and opening the channel.
Power Guy’s image appeared on the screen, “Power Storm, we’ve got a little problem here. State your emergency.” The obviously frantic Power Guy said, he’d obviously been busy with something else of equal importance.
“Vince we’ve got a weird mystery here. Starman, Hawkgirl and Wonder Warrior just disappeared. Right in front of us.” Power Storm said.
“You mean more disappeared?” Power Guy seemed to yell. He also seemed to have a headache. “Nucleus, Nightvision, Wonder Girl and Green Lantern just disappeared as well.” Power Guy said. “They had just helped me stop a new Major Disaster and his gang from creating another No Man’s Land in Gotham.”
“Weird. Is anyone looking into it?” Power Storm asked, looking at the packed Javein.
“You’re about to. I’ll join you actually. Let me just get your co-ordinates.” Power Guy said, before his image disappeared, but the communicator was still on.
Before long, Power Guy had found them, and was let into the Javelin. He noticed the Global Guardians and smiled and nodded.
“You’re the Titans leader?” Commander Steel asked. His arms crossed as if he was upset. “Looks like you’ve got a problem. I just checked in with Max to make sure he didn’t need any of us back at the Dome. He assures me he’s got enough people to send off in case of emergency.” Commander Steel smiled.
“My cousin, Power Girl has said some great things about you Commander.” Power Guy smiled, “Said you had a rough start too.”
“Your cousin shouldn’t tell you everything. I don’t like talking about what happened at my beginning.”
“Vince, Rocket Red here thinks that their may be some energy signatures hidden, but his sensors aren’t strong enough to decipher the exact signature.” Power Storm said, approaching Power Guy.
“Well then, we’ll see if microscopic vision is good enough then.” Power Guy said, finding Hawkgirl’s seat, and scanning it intently. “Wonder Warrior mentioned you guys. Said you got into a fight, or so he was told, Commander.”
“That’s true, Power Guy. We were both manipulated by Hector Hammond. Though I only met Wonder Warrior this morning in Africa.” Commander Steel smiled. “You found something?”
“Trace amounts of something. I can’t say I recognize the energy signature. If Nucleus was here he might be able to identify it. You got a lab boy on you?” Power Guy asked, stopping his search. And sketching an image of the energy signature he discovered.
“The Wild Huntsman is actually a nuclear physicist. He doesn’t look like one, or talk like one, but he’s one of the most brilliant of us.” Commander Steel said. “Huntsman, front and centre, we need you.”
“Yes Commander?” The large bearded German said, walking over to the two men, who stood a foot beneath him. He was a massive imposing man. “Hm. Strange little sketch, what is it?”
“It’s an energy signature I saw at sub-atomic size. Any ideas on what it is?” Power Guy answered.
“There’s this theory of a vibrational frequency that is said to be similar to what you’ve sketched. Only very powerful machines can even compensate for this frequency just to view another dimension. The Multiverse Theory.” The Wild Hunstman said.
“The Multiverse? Arachnid, didn’t the Titans West fight some evil duplicates of yourselves?” Power Guy asked, looking at the well-thought moron of super-heroes.
“Yeah. They had a Wonder Warrior, a Starman, a Supergirl, a Frost and a Kid Comet.” The Arachnid answered. “Why?”
“They were from the multiverse, weren’t they?” Power Guy asked.
“Who’s to say? Stranger made them go home.” The Arachnid shrugged.
“d**n.” Power Guy muttered. “Maybe Flash or Velocity could help us out here.” He wondered aloud. “The Flashes are meant to be able to somehow use this vibrational frequency thing. Hermes is a speedster isn’t he? Where’s he?”
“At the Dome.” Commander Steel said matter-of-factly, “He’s not as outgoing as he used to be.”
“We all miss Frost too.” Power Guy said. “How is he taking it?”
“Badly. Crimson Fox and Rising Sun have been trying to cheer him up. They aren’t getting through.” Steel muttered.

Earth-2, Somewhere in Gotham City…
“Oh my aching head.” Wonder Warrior muttered, finding himself and several of his teammates in the middle of a road. The city looked like somewhere he’d been before, but it was…cleaner.
His eyes stopped blurring, and he got a good look of those around him. There was Green Lantern in front, with Nucleus lying down near him, closest to Wonder Warrior was Wonder Girl, with Hawkgirl and Starman sprawled across from each other. Nightvision stood over the unconscious team.
“Quiet. Things aren’t right here.” Nightvision said, remaining closest to the shadows. “This is Gotham, but it isn’t. It’s far too clean…” Nightvision said.
“Another Earth, then?” Wonder Warrior asked, picking himself up. “We should get everyone off the road.”
“Yeah. We should. I’m going to go scouting ahead instead.” Nightvision said, slinking away.
“Give someone a bat-cape, and it’s their business to act like jerks when they feel like it.” Wonder Warrior laughed. “Although, scouting around ain’t a bad idea. He’s already good at it too. Besides, I’m super-strong. I can lift five people off the road.”
Wonder Warrior proceeded to get his teammates onto the sidewalk, and found the younger version of his mother from the Universe of Evil waking up.
“I think I prefer you asleep. You’re not as loud.” Wonder Warrior smiled, “Want a hand up Donna?” He asked politely, finding her rejecting his offer, and picking herself up.
“What’s going on?” Wonder Girl bossily asked. She seemed impatient already, and clearly wasn’t happy about being asleep on a sidewalk. It was un-regal.
“Alternate Earth, I think.” Wonder Warrior answered. He shrugged as he tried to see if the others were awake. He eventually decided to start shaking them awake. “Nightvision went scouting ahead. You want to go get an aerial view of this place. Maybe see if there’s any villains around?” Wonder Warrior asked, knowing giving Wonder Girl orders would backfire.
Wonder Girl muttered something insulting under her breath, and flew off.
