The sunny skies over Europe…
“I still don’t understand why you dragged Miss Teen USA along?” the teenaged Donna Troy fumed to Scott Trevor.
His mother’s private jet streaked through the sky towards Paris as Scott Trevor crossed his tan arms and shook his head.
“You need to meet people your own age…….and make friends with them. Since you got here all you’ve done is hang out at the condo with Chris and me---and you need friends your own age—girlfriends.” The supermodel sighed. “Sure you showed up to the Super Friends meeting but all I saw you doing was beating up on the boys.”
“I am a princess. I don’t need to associate with anyone other than royals. Besides, Jerrica takes me shopping and she’s cool with me.” Donna said, adding “Plus your life is like a tabloid come to life and it’s quite entertaining.”
“While that may be true, I’ve got to get you enrolled in school soon and I want you to be able to hang, you know?”
“SCHOOL!!! You forget I am heir to the throne of Paradise Island! I will be tutored only by the best Amazon scholars and will be instructed on royal protocol! You do not expect me to enroll in a school with everyday girls!!” the princess from an alternate earth fumed.
“Ah, you’re not heir to anything on this earth. And as long as you refuse to meet my mother and queen, your royal status is debatable. Jerrica has an “in” with an admissions officer at one of the best private girls’ schools in Beverly Hills. Believe me, Donna. Ordinary humans can be as cruel as villains. You won‘t make it a day around kids your own age with that attitude.”
“I’m not going! I’ll tell Chris—“
“Sorry, it’s a done deal—and Chris agreed it’s for the best.” Scott said as he made his way to the back cabin. He thought bringing Donna and Rachel along on this trip to France would prompt a friendship between the girls. Although Rachel Stewart was already out of highschool, she wasn’t much older than Donna.
“Zeus, grant me patience.” Scott sighed going over papers that his mother had given him. He was going to Europe to represent his mother in some of her international business holdings and was elated that she trusted him with her business affairs.
Donna rolled her eyes and sat across from Rachel. Rachel was wearing her hair pulled back in a sleek pony tail, large silver hoop earrings, a yellow top with white trim, vintage jeans that were rolled to just below her knees. White boots completed her summer look and even Donna had to admit she was the epitome of young style.
Rachel looked up from her fashion magazine and said hi to Donna. Donna faked a smile and looked out the window.
“Look, I know why we’re here. It’s cool if you don’t like me. I’m just doing this as a favor to Scott. Who could resist such a beefcake!” Rachel smirked.
“Disgusting! He wouldn’t have anything to do with a commoner like you!” Donna sneered.
“Listen ‘princess’, this isn’t your earth. Things are different here. Scott and his entire family are some of the most humble and down to earth people I’ve ever met. He wants to help you fit in, but it seems you have this attitude going on—an attitude like some of the models. Girl, you are more than your looks and you need to explore that.” Rachel said putting her magazine down.
“My looks?” Donna thought. “She doesn’t know about my curse…about what I really look like?”
“What would you know about that? Look at you? You’re perfect! You’re a model just like Scott!” Donna replied. “I bet you’ve never had to prove anything in your life!”
“Really? Miss Troy, I think you need to run your mouth less and open your ears more.” Rachel said excusing herself to the mini fridge.
After the plane landed in Paris, Scott took a limo to catch a train to Switzerland and another driver was escorting Donna and Rachel around Paris. Donna was stunned that this Paris was so beautiful—with flowers and a still standing Eiffel tower.
“It’s beautiful here..not even on Paradise Island have I seen such unique architecture.” Donna said smiling.
Rachel asked, “Was there not a Paris on your earth? I love coming here for fashion shows and to shop. My mother and I often come here sometimes—when we aren’t fighting.”
“You fight with your mother?” Donna asked.
“Just all the time.”
Donna was a bit surprised that the Vixen’s daughter was being so open with her.
“Look at this dress, Donna! It would look great on you—the color would suit your skin coloring….your hair…” Rachel said smiling ear to ear.
The dress was pretty and Donna began to relax. “Let’s try it on! Scott and Chris gave me some money to spend while I’m here.” She could tell that Totem was being genuine with her so maybe it was time to let down her guard?
Within minutes the girls exited the exclusive shop, bags in hand.
“We’d better hurry or we’ll be late.” Rachel urged.
“Late for what?” Donna asked taking a piece of gum from her purse.
“Scott provided entertainment for us this evening. Two front row tickets for the Miss Teen France pageant.” Rachel said waving the tickets.
“Oh barf. He would think we’d like that stuff. I hate it and I hate hearing him go on and on about it!” Donna said chewing her gum.
“It could be fun. Maybe someone will slip and fall.” Rachel laughed.
“Rachel’s kind of cool.” Donna thought. “She actually gets things---I think…”
Later that night………
The pageant was about to end. Rachel and Donna had enjoyed themselves as they tried to guess who would be called to the top 15 and top 10. Rachel knew who designed each dress and told Donna about the sewing, design, and construction of each gown. Italian Ice was singing as the top 5 came back on stage.
“This guy is awful! So cheesy and full of himself….and that hairy chest. YUCK!” Donna giggled to Rachel as the man rapped in Italian. He was wearing ripped jeans, big sunglasses and a rosary.
“Don’t be so quick to judge, that is one of your counterpart’s dearest friend’s husband. Scott hasn’t told you about Lilith and Italian Ice?”
Before Donna could reply, Rachel shushed her as the 4 runners up and the winner were about to be announced. Both girls had called Miss Normandie as the winner and were anxious to see if she would win. She seemed to be the crowd favorite as well.
Both girls watched the stage as the announcer called the runners up and the last two girls standing were Cote D’ Azur and Normandie.
“She’s got this in the bag. Normandie is so beautiful and regal.” Donna mused.
The announcer began in French, “the first runner for Miss Teen France is………Miss Normandie! Miss Cote D’ Azur is the new Miss Teen France!!!!!!!”
Confetti dropped from the ceiling as the lights came up and music played.
“Well, that was a surprise.” Rachel said. “I guess the judges were looking for something else.” Rachel suddenly felt uneasy although she didn’t know why. Sometimes the Tantu Totem would mess with her senses and she wrote it off as just that.
Just then the lights on stage took on a strange magenta glow and what appeared to be a woman descending from the rafters appeared.
“Star Sapphire!” Donna gasped. “What’s she doing here?”
“I can assure you it can’t be good. Come on!” Rachel said as the two girls found a place to change to Wonder Girl and Totem.
Meanwhile on stage pageant contestants were running and screaming. Star Sapphire laughed and created a barrier, keeping all of the girls on stage.
“Where is that hag!? Where is Miss Cote D’ Azur!!!? A travesty! A travesty I tell you! Can’t you fools in the jury see that Miss Normandie is much more beautiful and deserving of the crown!? Why must the true beauties be relegated to first runner up!? It’s a crime! A sin!!!!!!” she laughed, her eyes glowing bright.
“Thank God for that clause that if anything happens to the winner the first runner up takes over!” she smiled as she sent a bright violet blast at Miss Cote D’Azur. The young woman screamed and dropped her crown and flowers.
“Don’t you ever get over yourself? I mean you were washed up years ago from what I read about you!” Wonder Girl shouted as she deflected the blast with her bracelet.
Totem had called on the strength of an ox and had charged Star Sapphire, knocking her down.
“Ah, friends of Green Lantern! Does he not consider me worthy enough to fight so he sent you two girls who wouldn’t place in any pageant to deal with me! Bah! If Black Orchid couldn’t capture me, what hope do you two have?” the perpetual first runner up hissed.
Star Sapphire sent a blast of energy at Totem, pinning her to the ceiling. Wonder Girl attacked Star Sapphire, lasso spinning.
Totem reached for the Tantu Totem and to her horror dropped it! She was pinned to the ceiling by the blast and the totem literally slipped from her fingers.
“Oh no…I’ve got to get down…I don’t know if Wonder Girl can take Star Sapphire on her own!” Totem thought, panicked.
Wonder Girl lassoed Star Sapphire and slammed her into a row of seats. She then flew over and secured her to a seat. Star Sapphire passed out from the impact and the blast holding Totem disappeared. Wonder Girl flew up to catch Totem.
“She’s out cold.” Totem noticed.
“I slammed her pretty hard.” Wonder Girl replied.
“Cool, now we have to find my, uh, my mother’s totem. My powers go all wonky without it.” Totem said searching the stage for the object.
“Her mother’s totem? I thought it belonged to Rachel.” Wonder Girl mused as she helped with the search.
Star Sapphire came to, but watched silently and still as the two girls searched for the source of Totem’s power.
“My mother never wanted me to get caught up in this business. She pushed me to become a model and I stole the totem for my first fashion show…you know, so I would storm down the runway like a panther. In fact that was the night I met Scott and Di Di. I think they were sort of dating then.”
“Scott and Sonic Boom? Isn’t she a little uptight for him? I mean she’s nice and all, but Hera, that woman needs to chillax! She can be such a pain sometimes.”
“Mom is going to kill me. She barely agreed to let me have the totem and if I’ve lost it….well, maybe there’s a spot in the Green Lantern Corp for me, haha.”
Wonder Girl realized Totem wasn’t that bad and was actually kind of cool.
“We’ll find it. Don’t worry.” She said as she looked around. By now the pageant contestants and crowd had safely exited the theatre.
Star Sapphire had already spotted the totem and despite being bound by the lasso, had enough energy to slowly draw the totem to her. She smiled wickedly as the totem landed in her hand.
Both girls had their backs to the theatre as they noticed a shadow come over them. They turned around to see Star Sapphire hovering over them, eyes glowing magenta, veins popped out all over body and her hair looked like waving blades of grass.
Her voice was like a menagerie of voices all at once. “IS THIS THE TRINKET YOU LITTLE LAMBS ARE LOOKING FOR?”
“OH SH-----“ Totem yelled as she was blasted through the wall by Star Sapphire.
Wonder Girl stood firm and took a deep breath. Her lasso was still on the theatre seat and she knew she needed to retrieve it as she backed away from Star Sapphire.
“WHAT’S WRONG? I THINK THAT LITTLE JEWEL FITS ME WELL! DON’T YOU AGREE? I WOULD WIN ANY PAGEANT NOW! ANY MAN THAT WOULDN’T FIND ME BEAUTIFUL IS AN IDIOT!”
Wonder Girl was freaking out. Star Sapphire was morphing into some human/animal hybrid. Her skin was changing from leopard spots to porcupine quills to scales. Her teeth were sharp like a shark’s and her tongue was like a snake’s.
Wonder Girl tripped over a stage light that had fallen during the fight and before she knew it Star Sapphire was on top of her. Wonder Girl punched her in the face to no avail.
“That was like hitting a brick wall!?” she thought as her mind raced. “There’s no telling what the totem is doing to her.”
“I CANNOT BE BOTHERED WITH YOU LITTLE GIRL. THE MEN OF THE WORLD MUST PAY FOR ALL THEY’VE DONE TO ME…..AND WOMEN ALL OVER!” Star Sapphire screeched as she spit some type of venom at the young amazon, temporarily blinding her.
She then slammed her into the wall repeatedly until her costume ripped and her golden belt dropped to the ground. Star Sapphire didn’t notice the girl revert to her true burned and crippled form as she picked the belt up and fashioned it into a makeshift headband to keep her seemingly alive hair out her face.
“I….I CAN’T TAKE ThIs….ThE PowerrrrR issS TOO MUCH…I…..I HaVE to RELeasSe ALL of This PoWEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Star Sapphire screamed, shattering all the windows in the auditorium and the surrounding buildings as she flew out into the skies above Paris.
By now, Totem had staggered into the nearly demolished auditorium and saw the crippled form of a girl she didn’t recognize.
“Miss! What did she do to you? I can get you help. Hang on!” Totem said, barely able to look at the girls’ deformed face and body.
“R….Rachel it’s me. Donna….the real me….I have to have my belt…without it I’m helpless.” She gasped as she explained what tortures and humiliation she endured on her earth.
“Great.” Totem sighed. “I’m fighting to control my powers and you’re hurt. My communicator is busted.”
“Mine too. We’re helpless…you and I…we’re nothing.” Donna cried.
“Don’t you say that. We’re going to get your belt and my totem back.” Rachel Stewart said, trying to convince herself of her words.

Epilogue:
Belle Reve…
Sargona strolled into the prison office. “Ugh….I can’t believe that man was so rude today. Expecting me to replace his meal AFTER he had eaten half of it. Some people have no shame. And them he only leaves me a dollar for a thirty dollar tab! That’s the worst tip I’ve ever gotten so far. Ah well, I’m sure my little visit to the Stink Ray will perk me up,” she thought to herself as she waited in line. When she finally made her way up to the clerk, she requested, “I’m here to see the Sting Ray please.”
To Sargona’s horror the clerk replied, “I’m sorry ma’am but she was released this morning.”
“W..w..what did you say?!?!?!” asked the daughter of Zatanna in a complete outrage.
“She was released this morning into Lance Luthor’s new super-villain rehabilitation program,” answered the clerk.
“Tell me this is some kind of joke,” grumbled Sargona. “My teammates and I worked our butts off to put her behind bars and now she’s released into some goofy rehabilitation program???”
“I’m sorry ma’am but we’re just following orders here,” the clerk said meekly.
“Hmmph….just wonderful,” huffed the raven-haired beauty as she stormed out the door. Sargona was so frustrated she began talking to herself. “Why on earth would ANYONE release that woman in any way, shape, or form after what she tried to do??? This Lance Luthor has got to be out of his mind. I’ve heard he wants to make the world a better place but there’s no changing the Sting Ray. She’s a cold-blooded, heartless killer! Someone with Luthor’s intelligence should be able to figure that out instantly. d**n it all!” she cursed as she unrolled her magic carpet for transport.
