Are they adapting A New Hope or did he just choose to homage the first issue? I believe it is just an homage to the first Marvel Star Wars comics, ad that it is set between A New Hope and Empire, but it is not adapting the movies. But I could be wrong, I haven't seen actual solicits yet. -M |

Surprised nobody's commented on the Jaxxon/Star Wars party variant cover of Star Wars #1 by John Tyler Christopher yet. Looks like this is yet another variant that I'll have to hunt down and buy...bastards!  Full story here... www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=56867Obviously it goes without saying that I'd LOVE to see Jaxxon re-appear in a Marvel Star Wars comic (and not just on the cover, as is the case here). As far as I know, Jaxxon is owned by Lucasfilm (and now Disney) -- I think I'm right in saying that any new characters Marvel created in their old Star Wars comic automatically became Lucasfilm property. It's reasonably well known how little George Lucas himself thought of Jaxxon as a character, but maybe with Lucas not 100% in control of Star Wars anymore, there is hope of seeing Jaxxon in a Star wars comic again in the future. Here's hoping. I also wonder, what with this new Star Wars comic book being set immediately after Star Wars IV: A New Hope, how they will fit in with the old Marvel SW comics? Will Marvel attempt to weave the new stories around and in-between the older material or will they just ignore it? I know that the old Marvel SW stuff is only considered semi-canon for the most part, so I'm guessing it'll be the latter. But I hope it's the former. |

So, I've never seen any of the films or read any of the comics/novela. I did sleep through Phanton Menance a couple times, though.
What's the likelihood I'd be able to follow the series starting in January?
I have the og trilogy, so I can probably watch that before January if I need to.

I dislike the Star Wars expanded universe, but one thing I admire is the creativity of SW fans (especially when they poke fun at the series).

I wanted to get some opinions on this. One of the many mistakes Lucas made in my eyes involved the way he changed the music in Return of the Jedi. Jedi was the weakest of the original trilogy, but it had some fantastic music: the jazzy/funky Jabba's Palace band and dancer, the Ewoks song at the end of the movie, etc. It simply baffles that he would replace stuff like that with lame Disney inspired songs and dance numbers. I've assumed since first seeing it that the only reason he did it was because the original music (particularly Jabba's Palace) was too "sexy" and he wanted the enhanced editions to be more "kid friendly." Absurd, since Jedi was the first Star Wars movie that I vividly remember seeing at 5 or 6 and was my favorite of the original trilogy for years. Rant over!
