Thank you to all who served in the military. Remember those who paid for our freedoms with their lives. Attachment Deleted

Great idea for a thread. I don't have much to add to this, but I'm glad to see our community remembering "the reason for the season" (which is far more appropriately used for this holiday, I think, than any other).

A hearty thank you to all who serve or have served, and to the families who supported them or grieved for their fallen sons. -M

My wife is a retired Air Force officer. My father was 16 when Pearl Harbor was attacked and they made him wait until his 17th birthday to sign up. His brother joined a year or two later when he turned 17. Dad was called back in for Korea. Dad's grandfather served in the 13th New York regiment in the Civil War and my mother's great-grandfather served in the 34th Iowa regiment.
We attended the Memorial Day ceremony in Beaverton, hosted by the local American Legion post, as we do every year.

In Canada we have Remembrance Day, and it takes place on Nov 11, in commemoration of the Armistice that ended the First World War. But whatever we call it the sentiments are the same.
A lot of comic book creators, especially those from the Golden Age, of course served either overseas or on the home front. Some even perished in service, like Bert Christman , the co-creator of the original Sandman, while flying with the famous Flying Tigers, about which Alex Toth, a veteran himself, created his classic Burma Skies story for DC.
