Nucleus carefully laid down a battered Hawkgirl on the floor. Her bare arms were covered by large scars and her mask was ripped and torn. Shayera’s wings were ruffled and singed.
“Hopefully her Nth Metal will heal her…” Nucleus thought aloud, as he kneeled down to inspect her bruises. They were in the middle of a desert after Argos had tried to fly them to a hospital. However, the god succumbed to his own injuries and had fell in the middle of nowhere and passed out. Nucleus was searching through his belt to try and find his Mother Box.
“Where are you, box…” Nucleus thought aloud to himself, stroking a gloved hand through his messy hair. He glanced at Hawkgirl, who groaned in pain. Surprised, Nucleus watched as her fingers began to bend and her eyes fluttered open slowly.
“Hawkgirl! You’re okay!” Nucleus laughed as the teenage niece of Shayera Hol sat up.
“I’m fine…but this mask has got to go…” Hawkgirl grabbed her destroyed mask and pulled it off her head, revealing red bangs that framed her face. “I hate showing my face off on the job,” she explained, “the mask makes me look more scary.”
Nucleus chuckled as he opened the last pouch on Argos’ belt. His hands clasped around a small, golden box.
“Yes! I have it!” he grinned, standing up. “The Mother Box. With this, I can heal Argos and hopefully get out of this place.”
“Where are we, exactly?” Hawkgirl pondered, standing up and looking around them.
“I have no idea - but we won’t be here long,” Nucleus explained, “now let me concentrate on this box. Um, Mother Box, uhhh…heal Argos!”
The Mother Box began to heat up, causing Nucleus to drop it to the sandy ground. Suddenly, Argos sat upright, fully healed.
“What’s going on?” he asked, standing up, “and why’s my Mother Box out of my belt?”
“We had to revive you, you were badly injured,” Hawkgirl explained.
“Thank you for healing me,” Argos said, putting the Mother Box back in his belt, “now then, we need to get out of here. C’mon Nucleus, I’ll give you a - URGH!”
Argos shouted as his body was punched half a mile away into a hill of sand.
“What in hell was that?” He shouted, trying to recover from the blow.
“Alright, show yourself!” Hawkgirl screamed, grabbing her mace and holding it out in front of her.
“Revenge is sweet, isn’t it, Argos?”
“Y-you…” Argos murmured, as a familiar person hovered in front of him. “I should have known you’d pop up again…Fugladeth!”
“How right you are Argos! I’m here to get you back for the last time you beat me to an inch of my life! I will not be made a fool of once more! I will kill you this time!”
“Oh yeah?”
Fugladeth spun around to see Hawkgirl smacking her mace into her palm.
“You and what army, hun?”
“This army, birdie!”
Fugladeth cackled as a giant portal appeared behind Hawkgirl.
“A boom tube!” Argos warned, “Hawkgirl, get back!”
A small, fat woman appeared, followed by five tall, middle-aged women.
“Argos, Argos, Argos…I’ve had about enough of you always beating up my poor, sweet, innocent, Fugladeth,” Granny Goodness sneered. “Now, it’s time for you to face the full force of the Female Furies!”
Argos didn’t even have time to reply as Fugladeth kicked him into the sky.
“GET HIM!” One of the Furies shouted, running forward with a silvery whip.
“You’re gonna have to get through me, first!” Hawkgirl threatened, flying into the group, mace-first. She punched Granny Goodness in the face and dodged a pair of vivid green claws. Like an expert, she looped around a bulky woman in orange, and blocked an arrow with her mace.
“Hey Nucleus, wanna help me out here?” Hawkgirl suggested, as Atom’s protégé ran to the scene.
“No time right now, Hawkgirl,” he replied, grabbing his communicator, “I’ve got to call in some back-up first or we‘re all toast!”
“Well hurry up then,” Hawkgirl replied, swinging her mace into the back of Bloody Mary’s head, “because I’m getting a little overwhelmed over here!”
“You won’t be able to stand against us for long!” Mad Harriet shrieked, striking Hawkgirl’s back with one of her green claws.
“Heck, you won’t be able to stand at all when we’re done with you!” Lashina shouted, whipping her arm.
Hawkgirl cried as Stompa tackled her to the ground, and Granny stood on her triumphantly.
“Your Aunt was never a match for us, and neither are you, fool!”
“Hey, I find this a little unfair!”
Granny gasped as a familiar woman flew at her, punching her off the girl.
“Black Orchid! I should have known you would show up eventually!”
“I’d never miss a chance to beat you senseless, Granny,” Black Orchid replied, upper-cutting her into the air. “I hope you’re not still mad at me for busting up your second group of Furies.”
“This time, you won’t be so lucky, darling!”
Granny Goodness and Black Orchid battled in the air, as Lady Light and Totem appeared.
“Totem, take Bloody Mary! Lashina is mine,” Lady Light scowled, hitting Lashina away from Hawkgirl with a blast of light. Totem ran at Bloody Mary, using her wolf powers to take her on.
“Good, now that we have backup, I can join the brawl!” Nucleus thought to himself, running after the hunter, Artemiz.
Mad Harriet ran behind a hill, hiding from the battle. “I’ll attack when I‘ve got the best chance of survival!” she muttered to herself, “I’ll wait for some of the goody two shoes to be taken down before I make my move!”
“Looks like it’s just us two, beautiful,” Hawkgirl sneered, as Stompa smacked her fists together. Her double chin shook as she stepped forward, earning a grimace from the winged warrior.
“I’d leave your mockery for later! Right now, your biggest worry is I, STOMPA!”
Hawkgirl floated backwards as Stompa charged forward, flailing her fists around, hoping to land a hit on the graceful warrior. Hawkgirl used her mace to meet all of Stompa’s vicious swings at her. In one clean move, Hawkgirl swooped over Stompa, hitting the back of her neck with her mace, sending pain throughout her body.
“Get on the ground and fight like a real woman, fool!” Stompa shouted, swiveling on her heels.
“If you want to be humiliated on your own turf Stompa, then be my guest,” she grinned, landing on the ground. Hawkgirl and Stompa ran towards each other angrily, fists ready to attack. Stompa leapt forward, but Hawkgirl dodged her attack, standing behind her. She grabbed her head and slammed it into the ground several times, watching her cough on the sand.
“Don’t ever try and challenge the descendant of Shayera Hol, you fool,” Hawkgirl smirked, walking away triumphantly. The girl wasn’t expecting for Stompa to get back up and grab her knees as she tried to fly off.
“I WILL CHALLENGE WHOEVER I WANT TO!” Stompa laughed, swinging the teenager around and around in circles by her ankles. Hawkgirl screamed as the attack got faster and faster until her mask fell off her face.
“I’ve got to get out of this trap, before I become food for the vultures on the floor…” Hawkgirl thought to herself, “as soon as she lets go, I’m a goner…got to think of something!”
Hawkgirl’s eyes spotted her mace swinging wildly from her belt. She had an idea, but she only had one chance to get it right. Hawkgirl grabbed her mace as she spun around ever faster, and aimed it down at Stompa. At the rate she was spinning, even dropping the mace casually would injure the woman. Hawkgirl threw the mace down, which hit off Stompa’s skull and clunked to the ground. Hawkgirl screamed as Stompa slammed her to the ground as she grasped her bloody head.
“I’m not done yet, birdie!” Stompa cried, getting to her knees. Hawkgirl, who too was bloody and sore, grabbed her mace and held it high above her head.
“I suggest you stay down, and do yourself a favor!” Hawkgirl murmured, hammering the mace into her back, knocking the Fury unconscious.
Meanwhile, Granny Goodness and Black Orchid were fighting ruthlessly in the sky. Black Orchid was sporting many rips and tears in her costume, and Granny Goodness had many bruises on her face.
“For some reason, Black Orchid,” Granny Goodness began, punching the super heroine into a cloud, “I remember holding a grudge against you!”
Black Orchid flew out of the cloud, soaking wet. “I also remember having something to do with you,” she thought, upper-cutting Granny, “but right now, I just want you finished!”

On the ground, Lashina laughed as Lady Light fired several light blasts at her. The sometimes leader of the Female Furies used her whip to easily deflect the blasts.
“Lady Light, you can not hit me with your stupid blasts of light. My whip can deflect them without me breaking a sweat!”
“She’s right,” Lady Light thought to herself, “I can’t hit her with my light blasts…what am I going to do?”
“Lady Light may not be able to hit you when you have your whip…” Fusion laughed as he flew towards the women. Using his powers, he transformed Lashina’s whip into a grenade. “However, I’d like to see you fight against a grenade set to go off in three seconds!”
Lady Light gasped as Fusion flew away for safety. Lashina, who actually looked shocked, threw the grenade towards Fusion in a desperate attempt to get away from the tiny bomb. Both people screamed as the grenade blew up in between them, knocking them both backwards. Lady Light protected herself with a light wall, which held back most of the damage. As the dust settled, Lady Light watched as Lashina stood up, her face bruised and burnt. Fusion was not so lucky, and had fainted on the floor.
“Lucky…that I…always carry a…spare whip. You..stupid..stupid boy, never ever…play a trick like that…again!”
Lashina grabbed her spare whip and prepared to hurt Fusion with it.
“No!” Lady Light screamed, creating a light cage that trapped Lashina.
“I let my guard down!” Lashina shouted angrily, as Fusion got to his knees. “You fools! I will destroy you!”
“Not whilst you’re in there, you’re not,” Fusion laughed, as Lashina buried her head in her hands.

“You have gotten stronger since our last encounter…which I can’t exactly remember…” Argos said to Fugladeth as they battled in the skies.
“Never underestimate me, Argos. With Granny’s training and the Female Furies by my side, I have never been tougher!”
Argos cried as Fugladeth struck her knee into his stomach, knocking him back several miles. The daughter of Bernadeth laughed evilly as she flew after her prey.

“You have no chance against me, little girl,” Bloody Mary warned to Totem as they engaged in a cat fight. Bloody Mary’s claws were equally matched against Totem’s wolf powers. The two couldn’t land a scratch on each other.
“This little girl has faced far worse than you,” Totem grinned, grabbing Bloody Mary’s left arm. She scratched the red-haired fury’s face, drawing first blood.
“You should not have done that…nobody ever touches me!” Bloody Mary growled, holding her sore cheek. As quick as a flash, Bloody Mary kicked Totem in the chest, knocking her down. She stood on top of the girl, her heels slowly piercing her stomach. Totem grimaced in pain, as the woman bent down, and her eyes flashed.
“I hope you came prepared to have your life sucked out of you, girl,” Bloody Mary laughed, her eyes turning yellow. “I am going to be in control of your body for - ARGH!”
Totem breathed a sigh of relief as Bloody Mary was chucked off of her. She got to her feet, to see the vampire-like lady choking underneath Fugladeth. Up in the sky, Argos was standing with his arms folded.
“You stupid man! You will pay for using me against my own!” Fugladeth shouted, flying back up into the air.
“That was a lucky victory, you -”
“No need for curses,” Totem grinned, standing on top of Bloody Mary. “Now, this shouldn’t hurt if you don’t squirm,” she laughed, lowering her claws to Bloody Mary’s untouched cheek…

“Oh damn,” Nucleus thought to himself as he sprinted along the desert, “this was not supposed to happen…”
Nucleus looked behind him to see the cyber dog catch up on him. After trying to fight Artemiz, the expert archer had set her first cyber dog, Unus, onto the scientist. The dog was only small, probably only a puppy, but he sure could run fast with his cybernetic enhancements, and his teeth looked like they belonged to a saber-tooth tiger.
“I need some help, but everybody is busy…” Nucleus surveyed the battlefield, to see that not one person was available to help him. It was just him on his own.
“Got to use communicator, ah!” Nucleus held back a scream as Unus nipped his ankle, drawing blood and ripping his costume. Nucleus ran even faster, hoping to tire out the dog as he reached for his communicator. “Nucleus to the Hall! Nucleus to the Hall!”
At the Hall, four superheroes were teleporting in.
“The computer is beeping…” Wonder Warrior noticed, running over to the Hall’s monitor station. Kid Comet, Queen Bee and The Stranger followed, as Wonder Warrior answered. Nucleus face appeared on the screen.
“This is the Hall, what’s the problem?” Wonder Warrior asked, obviously bored.
“The Female Furies have attacked us! I need help holding off one of them! Can you guys give us a hand?”
Wonder Warrior looked at Nucleus, who was clearly in danger.
“Wonder Warrior, can you hear me?”
“I can hear you Nucleus…but I’m not coming to help you.”
Nucleus and Kid Comet gasped.
Wonder Warrior just looked up at Nucleus silently. After a few seconds, he finally spoke. “I’m sorry but the four of us are resigning from the team.”
“What? You can’t just give up on us now! We need your help, there’s several of us in need here. Queen Bee, your there I can see you! Please Latavia, we love each other! I know you love me deep down…please help us!”
Queen Bee scowled as she stepped up to the monitor. “Your weird, you filthy little man! I would never fall in love with you, so stop acting like I’m your girlfriend! I’m out of here.”
Nucleus was starting to get desperate, as Queen Bee and Wonder Warrior teleported away. Unus was hot on his heels.
“Please Stranger, please help me! Kid Comet, c’mon man!”
“I’m…sorry Nucleus…but you see, my wife is no longer paralyzed! We have…a lot of catching up to do…you understand, don’t you? I’ve got to go…”
“Kid Comet…please…oh god, the dog-things caught up…I can already predict your answer…Nucleus out.”
Nucleus ended his transmission as he shrunk down to as small as he could go. He didn’t have long until Unus sniffed him out. Nucleus ran from the cyber-dog, but the scientifically enhanced dog found him amongst the sand.
“Oh no…this is the end…” Nucleus thought aloud, “got to keep running!”
Nucleus jumped as another, fully grown dog appeared before him.
“Secondus!” Artemiz shouted from nearby. “Finish the small man!”
Nucleus gulped as he ran in between his legs. Looking back, he failed to notice a small twig that was poking up through the sand. Secondus lunged forward, grabbing the mans belt as he tripped over the twig.
“My belt!” Nucleus cried out as Secondus tossed his belt away. “Now I’m stuck like this!”
“Secondus, devour him whole!”
Nucleus screamed as Secondus opened his wide mouth revealing lots of spiky teeth. He nearly fainted as the mouth wrapped over him, swallowing him in darkness. He closed his eyes, prepared to die. Suddenly, Secondus whined as he was chucked aside by an unknown force.
“What was that?” Nucleus thought, opening his eyes. Secondus was on the floor next to him, shaking and whimpering.
“Hey…I think you’re gonna need this.”
Nucleus grinned as Kid Comet handed him his small belt. He clipped it around his waist, and pressed a button on it. He reverted back to his normal size.
“Kid Comet, you came!”
“I never desert a friend in need, Nucleus. Now c’mon, we have some dogs to defeat!”
Nucleus grinned, as Unus leapt forward, ready to avenge Secondus.
“Let me handle this,” Nucleus smiled, grabbing the cyber-dog by its neck and throwing it across the landscape. It landed on its back, and whimpered in pain.
“I’m not into animal cruelty, but damn, that dog deserved it!” Nucleus laughed.
“That’s it!” Artemiz shouted, “Tertius, show the stupid mutts how its done!”
Kid Comet and Nucleus gulped as another dog appeared. However, this one was taller than the two men and its mouth could definitely swallow them whole. Dirty yellow fangs dripped drool over the two men.
“Down, dog…” Kid Comet whispered, stepping backwards.
“I hope your telekinesis can handle this one, KC…” Nucleus said to his friend.
“I don’t think I can lift that great beast…and even so, a good old throw across the desert wouldn’t slow it…”
“Face it fools, your game is over! Tertius, kill them!”
“Not on my watch!” Argos shouted from the skies. Kid Comet and Nucleus looked up at the warrior. Fugladeth was currently injured on the desert floor. By the looks of things, she’d be back on her feet in a few seconds.
“Sturmer, heel!”
Kid Comet grinned as Sturmer appeared in front of them.
“Now boy…” Argos grinned, watching Fugladeth recover from the corner of his eye. “I think my two friends here need some help!”
Sturmer growled and ran forward, attacking Tertius with his teeth. Kid Comet stood back, as Argos watched on proudly. Suddenly, Fugladeth sped forward, kicking Argos away from the scene.
“Nucleus, I’m going after Artemiz. You get back-up for Argos!” Kid Comet explained, running towards the fury had no more dogs left to summon.
“Knight-Bat, Supergirl, this is Nucleus!” Nucleus watched as Knight-Bat and Supergirl appeared on his communicator screen. “We need help down here - Argos is getting himself destroyed by Fugladeth!”
“Nucleus, I have no time for you, now get off of my monitor,” Knight-Bat growled, but Supergirl interrupted him.
“Fugladeth…I know that name! And I know she’s not to be messed with, either! Nucleus, we’re on our way!”
“What? Darling, we cannot help -”
“Honey, do this for me. Just help the team for once, alright? Now come on, we have some big fat fugly butt to destroy!”
***
Nucleus watched as Kid Comet approached Artemiz, punching her in the face. He grinned as the welsh hero sent her into the ground with his telekinesis, knocking her out cold. His attention turned toward Argos’ faithful hound Sturmer, who was easily beating the massive Tertius. Suddenly, Mad Harriet appeared and clung onto Nucleus’ back, shocking the man.
“Get off of me!” Nucleus grunted, as she overwhelmed him into falling over.
“Mad Harriet always gets her prey!” she cackled like a maniac.
“Not today.”
Nucleus watched Knight-Bat pick up Mad Harriet and throw her into the ground.
“Now you get up and fight fairly,” he growled, grabbing his trusty staff and preparing for battle. Mad Harriet ran forward, thrusting her claws at the warrior. He blocked her attack with his staff, then lunged it towards her head. Mad Harriet cried as he then jabbed her in the stomach, then threw her to the side. Mad Harriet was out of the fight before she could even get a chance to properly attack.
“The Female Furies are not what they used to be. Now, they’re just a pack of middle-aged vultures looking for an easy fight. They’ll not find it here,” Knight-Bat concluded, watching Mad Harriet struggle.
***
“Granny, I wish you’d just give up!” Black Orchid shouted, throwing another punch at the injured leader of the Furies. Black Orchid had given the Granny one of the roughest fights of her life, but the woman still managed to keep hold of her consciousness.
“Seriously…” Black Orchid panted, kicking her in the stomach, “why won’t you go down!” Black Orchid grabbed both of her hands together and swung them towards the Granny, using them like a hammer to knock her into the ground.
“I’m done now,” Black Orchid whispered, before falling out of the air from exhaustion.
Granny Goodness got to her knees, determined to keep on fighting Black Orchid.
“Your not going anywhere, Granny,” Totem smiled, standing in front of the woman.
Granny Goodness looked up and groaned as the League of Titans stood over her, ready to finish her off for the unconscious Black Orchid.
“Oh no…” Granny muttered, as the Titans advanced on her.
***
Injured, Argos watched from the ground as Supergirl finished off Fugladeth for him. Supergirl chucked her into a hill, then grabbed her and slammed her head into the ground. The Apokoliptian warrior was finally still.
“You did it, Supergirl!” Argos grinned, as the girl flew to him. Sturmer made his way to his master’s side, dragging a defeated Tertius with him.
“You did help me, Argos. Without you weakening her before I got here, I wouldn’t have stood a chance. We all did well today.”
Supergirl supported Argos as the walked back to the rest of the team, who had finished off Granny Goodness.
“That’s it, we’re all done here,” Nucleus smiled, wiping his hands on his knees.
“We should go and regroup with the other team,” Hawkgirl surmised, “they’ll probably be wondering what we’ve been up to.”
“Good plan,” Kid Comet agreed, putting his fingers to his temples. “I’m reading Sargona’s mind now. They’re in Keystone City, they’ve just finished off a battle. They’re heading for the West house now. You guys go join them. I‘m going to go round up Wonder Warrior and the others.”
“Lead the way, KC,” Nucleus grinned, as he shrunk to a smaller size and hopped onto his friends shoulder. “To Keystone City!”
