Titans of Justice Unlimited Chapter 63 - “You Can Go Home Again Part 14”
Written & Edited By: Power Guy
The Perisphere, Earth 2...
“By the Almighty One, it cannot be!” exclaimed the White Wraith. Never before had his teammates seen his eyes grow so big.
“Hand over that egg or you’re going to be sorry, Anti-Monitor!” demanded Power Guy.
“Spare me your empty threats. I have slain a Kryptonian before and I have no problem doing so again!” declared the Anti-Monitor as he fired an energy blast at Power Guy.
Vince Starr used his super-speed to dodge the blast and take to the air. Without hesitation, he fired a blast of his heat-vision at the dark monger from the Anti-Matter Universe. The searing beams struck the Anti-Monitor’s shoulder, burning it severely.
“ARRRGHHHHHHHHH!!!” the would be destroyer of the mutiverse screamed. Firing another energy blast, he knocked the Kryptonian powerhouse out of the sky, sending him crashing into the ground rendering him delirious.
The Huntress rushed to Power Guy’s side in a panic, “Vince! Vince!” she cried out, hoping her best friend would open his eyes.
Immediately, Dr. Fate and the White Wraith surrounded the Anti-Monitor ready to attack him with their magic.
The Anti-Monitor looked back an forth, realizing he was in trouble, “It is too soon for me to take on the lot of you especially with exhausting my energies to take down the Kryptonian. I have what I came for. Soon you all will have never existed!!” he threatened as he dematerialized.
“Where did he go???” questioned Nucleus as he looked all around.
“To the Anti-Matter Universe,” answered Harbinger.
“This isn’t good,” commented the Huntress. “Last time he almost destroyed all of creation. If it wasn’t for the Spectre….”
“White Wraith, can you summon the Spectre?” asked Dr. Fate anxiously.
“No, I cannot,” replied the ghostly being. “The Almighty One has granted him his eternal rest. He cannot be disturbed.”
“Then all is lost!” the Huntress shouted, becoming frustrated.
“Not necessarily,” counterd Harbinger. “When the Wizard brought back the original multiverse, the Anti-Monitor was reborn much like myself BUT he has not yet amassed the amount of power he had when he fought the Spectre. If we can find him and defeat him relatively soon, we can set things right again but we must hurry as he grows stronger by the minute and once he figures out how to use the Cosmic Egg, he will be unstoppable.”
“Well then, I guess we’re taking a trip to the Anti-Matter Universe,” mumbled Power Guy as he sat up.
“Thank God you’re ok!” a relieved Huntress said, looking down at Power Guy.
As Power Guy stood up, he pulled his Society of Titans communicator out of his pocket, “Green Lantern - come in!” he requested.
“Hey Vince - we’re just wrapping up the remainder of the Injustice Society. How’s it going on your end? Did you find the Wizard?” asked the green guardian as he sealed the giant bubble holding the captive members of the Injustice Society.
“Yes, we did but he’s no longer a problem,” answered Vince Starr. “We’ve got something much bigger to worry about now.”
“Vince, what’s wrong? I’ve never heard that tone in your voice before,” commented Daniel Jordan. “Drop those villains off at the nearest prison and then have everyone meet us in the Perisphere’s meeting room and make it quick. We don’t have a second to lose.”
“I don’t like the sounds of this,” Green Lantern said, extremely concerned. “Give me ten minutes.”
“See you soon,” Power Guy said right before he put his communicator away.

Fifteen minutes later in the Perisphere’s meeting room…
Power Guy, the Jade Sentinel, Liberty Belle, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Lt. Atom, Uncle Sam, Ibis, and Harbinger took the stage as the remaining heroes found their seats in the circular bleachers that surrounded the stage. The Perisphere had not had this many people to occupy it since the final meeting of the original All-Star Squadron. As the heroes waited for their leadership team to speak, theories and rumors circled through the group. Everyone was anxious and a bit nervous waiting for the news that was about to be presented to them.
As Power Guy took the podium, the large group finally quieted down. “Thank you all for being so prompt. We have a dire situation on our hands and…”
Suddenly, Super Lad stood up and interrupted his mentor, “Yo, Pee Gee. Where’s the Wizard?” asked the somewhat obnoxious teen.
Power Guy just paused for a moment before answering, “The White Wraith just finished dropping his body off at the Brooklyn Morgue along with Firebrand‘s corpse.”
“What the $*#(” exclaimed Super Lad.
“Watch your mouth!" ordered Power Guy. "He was killed by the threat I’m about to tell you all about,” continued Power Guy. “It seems like the Wizard bit off a little more than he could chew when he brought the original multiverse back. Along with Earths 1, 2, 4, S, and X, he also brought back the Anti-Monitor.” The man of might stopped speaking for a few moments as he could tell that many in the room were totally floored by the information he had just given them. He didn’t need Nucleus’ intelligence to tell that many in the crowd were nervous and even a bit scared. “Many of you have read the history books and know what the Anti-Monitor is capable of. I don’t think I need to tell anyone how serious of a threat we face today. The stakes are higher than they’ve ever been before. It is logical to assume that once we go into battle today, many of us may not coming back and that’s if God is on our side and we end up winning. If we should lose, chances are that all of creation will be destroyed.”
“Ahh…I dunno what you’re so worried about,” scoffed Super Lad. “I’ve watched the Justice League Memory Tapes. If Grandpa Superman can take that loser down, so can we.”
Power Guy looked up at his teen side-kick sternly. He was both embarrassed and disappointed in Super Lad’s lack of understanding the severity of the situation. “Super Lad, let’s step out of the room for a moment…”
With that, Super Lad rolled his eyes and made his way down the bleacher steps and followed his mentor into the hallway.
“What? What did I say?” a totally clueless Super Lad asked, as he crossed his arms, appearing totally defensive.
“Ahli, you’ve got to stop treating everything like it’s a big joke,” chastised Power Guy. “We’re up against the most serious threat of our career and you need to put things into perspective.”
“What are you so worried about, PeeGee?” questioned the young trouble-maker. “Like I said, if Grandpa Superman could beat the Anti-Monitor, you can probably kick his %*$ without breaking a sweat.”
“Do you know that the original Superman would not have been able to beat the Anti-Monitor if the Spectre had not softened him up first? Plus, Superman also had a virtual army of heroes along with him when he took on the Anti-Monitor. Their help also helped turn the tide of the battle. The amount of heroes I’ll be taking with me into the Anti-Matter Universe is roughly one fourth of the amount of allies that Superman had with him when he went.”
Suddenly, Super Lad felt his the fight inside him die out. Finally he was starting to “get it”. “But…but….you’ve got me and you’ve got Argos and Green Lantern and Wonder Man and….”
“Yes but still….we’re still a fraction of the force that helped take down the Anti-Monitor last time,” reminded Vince Starr. “And I’m sorry to tell you that you’re staying here on Earth.”
“What?!?! Why? Now that I’m Superman’s little brother, I’m stronger than I ever have been and I don’t need no stinkin’ costume to do the things I can do,” argued Super Lad.
Power Guy put his hands on Super Lad’s shoulders and looked at him compassionately, “Look at me, Ahli. You need to understand that if push comes to shove, I may not be coming back today……………..and if that happens, I’m going to need someone to watch over Metropolis. I’d like that someone to be you. Can you do that for me?”
Finally, Super Lad put all of the pieces together so to speak. He looked into Power Guy’s eyes and felt himself start to tremble slightly. Power Guy’s message was finally clear and the young teen began to realize the scope of the situation. He felt a lump in his throat and his eyes began to water. As much as he tried to say something, he couldn’t speak a single word. He realized that this could very well be the last time he ever saw Power Guy. In a shocking move, he hugged his mentor tightly and whispered, “Go kick some Anti-Matter #*$, PeeGee. I got Metropolis covered.”
A few minutes later, the two heroes rejoined the group in the meeting room. Super Lad re-took his seat in the bleachers as Power Guy finished addressing the team. “We’re going to split up into two groups. One group will accompany me to the Anti-Matter Universe while the other group will stay here to be our final line of defense if my group fails. Those who will be coming with me are: Argos, Black Adam, Black Orchid, Black Vulcan, Captain Marvel Jr, Fausta, Flash, Fusion, Green Lantern, Isis, Jade Sentinel, Jemstone, Junjie Quick, Lady Light, Lightspeed, Nucleus, Quicksilver, the Ray, Sherry Marvel, Starman, Teen Marvel, Velocity, Wonder Man, Wonder Warrior, and Wonder Woman. The rest of you will stay behind in case we fall.”
“Why aren’t you bringing any of the mystics like Dr. Fate and the White Wraith?” questioned Starman. “Surely they could be a huge advantage against the Anti-Monitor.”
“During the first Crisis, we learned that the laws of magic are quite different in the Anti-Matter Universe,” explained Dr. Fate. “We could end up causing more harm than good if we were to go along.”
“Hmm…well, that makes…” began Starman until Harbinger suddenly started screaming.
“NOOOOOOO!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” shrieked the former herald of the Monitor as her body began swaying back and forth.
Green Lantern rushed to her side and helped the blonde historian steady herself, “What is it Harbinger? What’s wrong??”
With her eyes wide open, Harbinger looked at Green Lantern and revealed, “It’s already started. I think we are too late!!!”
“What do you mean?” asked the Green Guardian, trying to get a straight answer out of the woman before him.
“While the rest of you were talking, I asked my satellite to check on the conditons of Earths 1, 4, S, and X. The Anti-Monitor has unleashed a wave of anti-matter,” blurted out Harbinger, she was shaking uncontrollably. “Earths 1, 4, S, and X have already been destroyed!!!!”
“My parents!!!” gasped Elongated Lad.
“Our world,” whispered Blackout as she pulled her brother, Lt. Atom close to her.
“My home!!” cried out Diamond Jack.
“By the fathers of my country!” exclaimed Uncle Sam.
“But how could the Anti-Monitor have acted so fast?” Wonder Man asked, turning towards Harbinger.
“He must have been preparing for this before he killed the Wizard and took the Cosmic Egg,” presumed Harbinger as she started to calm down and regain her composure.
“We’ve got to get to the Anti-Matter Universe pronto,” advised Power Guy. “Dr. Fate, can you open the portal?”
“Uhh…..Power Guy, there’s no need for that,” alerted Nucleus who was looking up at the Perisphere’s monitor screen.
“What? Why?” asked the confused Kryptonian leader.
“Look!” Nucleus said, pointing up at the screen. “It looks like the Anti-Monitor has brought the fight to us!”
As Power Guy and the other heroes looked on, Nucleus finished explaining what he was talking about. “He’s currently off the coast of the Florida panhandle and it doesn’t look like he’s here to make new friends.”
“Great Gotham!” shouted Nightvision as he and the other heroes witnessed another horrifying sight on the monitor. From behind the Anti-Monitor, an army of Shadow Demons swarming forward. The group of dark beings immediately split up, heading towards every corner of the globe in hopes of reaping mass destruction.
“It’s worse than we thought!” pointed out Power Guy. “New plan - the team that was supposed to go with me to the Anti-Matter Universe is going to the panhandle. The rest of you are going to the surrounding area to destroy as many Shadow Demons as you can and keep the general population safe. Lady Light and Ray, go with the panhandle team. You’ll be of more use with them. Green Lantern, we’ll need a transport jet. Let’s move out people! No time to waste!!”
***
About a half hour over Northern Florida….
A sleek, green jet streaked through the sky headed towards it’s destination. Five miles away on the ground, stood the Anti-Monitor, taking sick delight in the destruction being caused by his Shadow Demons for every person they killed, increased his power ever slightly. “Soon, I shall mass enough power to destroy this final universe. Thanks to a foolish human, I have a second chance of complete victory.”
“And you shall have a second chance to die!!!” boomed the voice of Argos as he came out of nowhere and hurled an immense bolt of the Astro-Force at the dark dictator from the Anti-Matter Universe.
“Well, so much for the plan…” smirked Starman as he and the other Titans descended downwards to join Argos. As the group landed, Elongated Lad came running out of shrubbery near by.
“Rick! What are you doing here?” Green Lantern asked, surprised to his stretchable teammate.
“I snuck aboard your jet. I wanted a crack at the guy who killed my parents,” Elongated Lad answered, angrily.
The bolt of Astro-Force that Argos had previously fired was so powerful, it knocked the Anti-Monitor off of his feet. Argos jumped on top of him without hesitation and began beating him brutally.
“Get off of me, mongrel! I have slain a Kryptonian before. You are surly no match for me!” spat the Anti-Monitor as he grabbed Argos’ throat.
“You are quite wrong,” argued Argos. “It is you who are in a dire predicament. You have never faced a warrior from New Genesis before and I shall teach you respect for my kind!” he proclaimed, punching the dark villain the face.
Becoming quickly angered, the Anti-Monitor shouted, “ENOUGH!!! Get off of me!” he ordered, firing an energy blast at point-blank range at Argos’ face, hurling the New God off of him.
“Argos!!!” called out Fusion as he flew after his teammate, Sturmer following right behind him.
As Fusion and Sturmer approached Argos, they noticed him clutching his face which had smoke coming off of it. Fusion gasped slightly when he noticed Argos’ face was severely burned and scarred.
Several yards over, the squad of Titans had surrounded the Anti-Monitor in a circular position. Green Lantern’s and Jade Sentinel’s rings and Starman’s Cosmic Rod were all lit up while Black Vulcan, Jemstone, and Isis’ fist blazed with energy. Power Guy’s were glowing red as he offered the dark being one chance at surrendering, “Correct me if I’m wrong,” Power Guy began, “But I’m pretty sure there’s no chance of you calling this all off. You have about a half of a second to tell me otherwise or you’ll be destroyed!”
In the blink of an eye, the Titans released their various forms of attack on the Anti-Monitor but at the last fraction of a second, he teleported out of the way, allowing the barrage of energy blasts to strike the Titans themselves. Once the smoke cleared, many of the Titans were injured, battered, and lying on the ground including Argos and Fusion who were caught in the crossfire.
The Anti-Monitor reappeared shortly and opened his mouth but said nothing for a second and then finally, “It looks like my time is up. Let the game begin!!!!!”
