“Hunter! Calm down! I swear we’re going to save Solution before the time runs out, just let us have a moment!” Blackbird scolded the vengeful vigilante. Hunter slowly exhaled and locked his eyes on the redhead. He slowly backed up into the shadows while Blackbird continued talking with Nightvision about making a plan. Hunter had no time to loose and had no intentions of taking the risks Blackbird and Nightvision were already taking. His brother’s life was in jeopardy and that meant more to him then his life itself.
Hunter slowly pulled a grappling gun from his belt and looked upwards, proceeding to aim the gun at the roof above him. His finger slowly gripped the trigger and after glancing back at the ex-couple, fired the gun. Connected to a rope, the metal hook propelled through the night sky until it latched onto the roof. After releasing the trigger, Hunter thrust upwards with the wind at his face. He flipped around and landed on the roof. Overcast covered the moon, providing him with less light than he’d of liked.
Through the factory’s skylight, Hunter could see Professor Ivo standing next to a tall, robotic creature assumed to be Fantasto. The scrawny man was animatedly talking to a bound and beaten Solution. His hair was disheveled and his costume unkempt. Hunter’s fists tightened and he used every ounce of energy to stop himself from breaking the glass and swooping in without a plan. Hunter stood up, leaning towards the window but a firm hand pulled him onto his bottom. Hunter’s head whipped around and was taken by surprise when he saw Nighvision and Blackbird crouched behind him.
“You really thought you could sneak into the building without us knowing? How naïve,” Nightvision quietly scolded. Blackbird merely stared at the man, thinking she’d taught him better. Hunter glared back at the woman, his gaze passing right through the protégé of Nightwing.
“Hmmph.” Hunter had nothing more to say to Nightvision, though his gaze was cutting through Hunter’s skin and piercing his heart. What did the dark vigilante expect? His brother was being beaten to death and the man thought Hunter would merely stand by and wait? He was the one that was naïve, then.
With a scoff to the Titan of Justice, Hunter stood up and turned towards the window. Suddenly, a portal opened behind the heroes and Phantom Lady stepped out, along with Blackout and the Ray behind her.
“Am I late?” she asked. A bright light appeared instantly and a man touched down on the roof. On the other side of Phantom Lady, a shadow was visible and it quickly turned into the silhouette of a woman.
“Blackout and The Ray,” Nightvision said quietly from behind Blackbird. Hunter glanced up from his location near the skylight. He hadn’t known either of the heroes, but it didn’t matter to him.
“Happy to help,” The Ray said respectively.
“As am I.” Blackout added.
“Is this little happy reunion done so we can save my brother?!” Hunter jabbed at Nightvision. He glared at the man, hate fueling in his eyes. Blackbird stood up and walked over to where Hunter was crouched down. She put herself between Hunter and the rest of the heroes. Blackout looked over at The Ray, who both shared a look of confusion. Nightvision fired a glance, making them both regain composure as if nothing happened.
“Martino, we’re going to save him. I swear on my life he’ll be fine. Fantasto is no one to be messed with and we need a plan before going in,” she explained in a calm voice. Hunter looked at her with disgust.
“I’m not three, Blackbird. I understand what’s going on but none of you are acting as if someone’s life is in danger! d**n it!” he said, his voice echoing through the quiet night. In the factory below, both Solution and Professor Ivo glanced up at the skylight. He looked over at Fantasto and said something right before the robot disappeared. Nightvision had seen the whole thing.
“See what you’ve done?! They know about our location!” Nightvision quietly scolded. Hunter stood up and gripped his crossbow, which was sitting in its holster lifelessly. Before anything else could happen, the floor below them slowly crumbled away and the heroes plummeted towards the ground below. The Ray grabbed Blackout’s wrist as he hovered in the air and flew towards Phantom Lady, grabbing her hand at the last minute. He set them down on the ground lightly but couldn’t save Blackbird, Nightvision, and Hunter in time. As the Huntress’s son fell towards the ground, his life flashed before his eyes. As the rubble crashed against the ground, so did the bodies of Nightvision, Blackbird, and Hunter. A loud crack echoed through the factory, signaling the sound of broken bones and cracked skulls.
From across the room, Solution’s eyes widened in horror as his hurt eyes locked on Hunter’s limp body. Professor Ivo had disappeared and standing between the three remaining heroes and Solution was the intimidating robot dubbed Fantasto. Phantom Lady brought her finger to her ear and mumbled to herself.
“Phantom Lady to Titans, come in. I’m here with Blackout and The Ray and we’ve run into Fantasto in Ivo’s Lab. Back-up asap! Over and out.”
She didn’t give time for a reply, nor did she give time for someone to answer. In the least, she knew Power Guy would show up. Fantasto watched her with watchful eyes, knowing who she was and what she did to him, with the help of her team. A few others looked familiar, like the brooding man in all black. Before anything more could happen, the wall behind the trio of heroes crumbled and three more heroes entered the room.
“You rang?” Power Guy asked sarcastically. Behind him were the seemingly retired Geo-Force II and the Super Friend White Wraith. Phantom Lady fired a glare at Power Guy. “I managed to snag Wraith from the Super Friends and Geo-Force was the only hero available at the time. It took a lot of work to get him here, but he gave in eventually.”
“You’re lucky I gave in and showed up. This is for Solution’s sake only,” Geo-Force pointed out, cutting Power Guy off. Power Guy glared back at him.
“As I was saying, more are on the way.” The other heroes brushed the minor scuffle off and focused back on the battle.
“What happened to the others?” White Wraith asked quietly to the Ray. Meanwhile, Power Guy walked forward and stood next to Phantom Lady, brushing the Ray aside. Geo-Force stood next to Blackout and the quartet of heroes stared down the android. The Ray paid no attention to showdown behind him, rather helped the mysterious entity.
“Well, we were on the roof before a certain android crushed the roof and caused them to plummet to what seems like their deaths,” the Ray explained comically.
“This is no joke, Ray. Our friends could be dead. Go help the others, I’ll tend to these three,” White Wraith said seriously. He knelt down by Nightvision and checked for a pulse, which was still findable. Behind him, the now quintuplet of heroes prepared for battle.
“How did you get back together, Fantasto?” Phantom Lady asked grimly. Fantasto chuckled evilly and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Answer the question, Fantasto,” Power Guy demanded. Fantasto became invisible and sank into the ground. He reappeared behind the heroes and elbowed Power Guy’s back, sending him forwards so he crashed into the wall. Phantom Lady was the first to react by firing black light rays from her blacklight bands at his chest. The android thrust backwards, flying through the hole Power Guy had previously created. He crashed into the ground several yards away, causing a huge crater-sized hole in the ground. He fell into the ground once more, reappearing beside the limp Power Guy. He grabbed the hero’s hair and slammed him into the ground face first.
“That hurt,” he grimly stated. Blackout threw her hands forwards and surrounded the android’s arms and legs in an airtight bubble of darkness. Geo-Force quickly thrust his hands upwards, causing the ground below Fantasto to thrust upwards. The earth itself formed into makeshift shackles and bound Ivo’s creation to the ground. Without a wasted second, the Ray fired high-powered bolts of light at Fantasto’s face, hoping to harm him. Phantom Lady ran forward and jumped onto the android’s torso and wrapped her legs around his chest. She fired black light rays into both sides of his head until they sliced through his head. The hunk of metal fell to the ground.
“It is done,” Phantom Lady said bluntly. She hopped down from his chest and prepared to walk towards the other heroes. The Ray’s bolts of pure light ceased and Blackout eased her grip on the limbs of the seemingly dead android. Geo-Force kept his gaze on the android as the others gave up. He slowly and reluctantly let the earth and rock fall from the body of Fantasto. Suddenly, Fantasto’s head quickly grew back.
“How naïve, heroes,” he said coldly. Suddenly, he flew forwards and grabbed Phantom Lady by her arm as he whizzed by. Fantasto flew to the ceiling and let go of her arm. Phantom Lady gasped but Blackout made a net from the shadows. Aggravated, Fantasto fired bolts of green energy from the ring on his finger. Geo-Force brought a wall of earth up in front of him for protection but the Ray wasn’t as lucky. Four of the five bolts struck his body, leaving scars. He fell to the ground, yelling in agony.
“How are they doing, Wraith?!” Power Guy yelled to the Super Friend as he slowly emerged from the ground where he was slammed down.
“Don’t fret, fellow Titan. They should be back to normal within minutes. Concentrate on the android and do not worry about me,” White Wraith replied, breaking his concentration on the fallen heroes from a split second.
“Where are those reinforcements you were talking about, Power Guy?” Blackout yelled to the Titan’s leader in between firing concentrated bolts of shadow energy at the elusive android.
“Right here,” Totem said warmly as she fell from the hole in the roof. She landed on the back of Fantasto and with her left hand, pressed down on her totem necklace. “Boa constrictor,” she whispered. Her arms and legs wrapped around Fantasto and tightened. Fantasto’s eyes widened as he felt the pressure on his body. Black Orchid flew into the factory with great speed and, along side Power Guy, released a series of powerful blows to the android’s face. Blackout fired a series of projectile bolts, which mixed with Ray’s pure light projectiles. They cut through the thick skin of Fantasto.
“Awake and help your comrades defeat the android, Fanasto,” White Wraith said to the three heroes. Blackbird, Nightvision, and Hunter then rose as if from a bad dream.
“What?” Blackbird asked.
“No questions, fight,” White Wraith quickly replied. Behind them, Geo-Force pulled a large column of earth from the ground and wrapped it around Fantasto’s legs. Hunter shot his crossbow at the android’s face; while Nightvision and Blackbird climbed up the earth Geo-Force conveniently placed. They helped Power Guy and Black Orchid in beating on the android. Lastly, Phantom Lady grabbed onto Fantasto’s body along side Totem and released more black light rays directly into Fantasto’s forehead. Using his strength and invulnerability, Fantasto resisted and fought his hardest.
White Wraith slowly floated face to face with the android. His hands floated upwards and hang parallel to each other at shoulder level. Suddenly, the android’s head convulsed along with body.
“Burn in hell,” White Wraith hissed coldly.
“SYSTEM OVERLOAD!!! SYSTEM OVERLOAD!!! SYSTEM OV—“ the android shouted repeatedly until Black Orchid ripped its head off and threw it to the ground. The other heroes ceased and let the body fall to the ground with a crash.
“It is done,” the protégé of Spectre whispered.

“Nice work out there team,” Power Guy said kindly. His warm smile raised the hero’s spirits. “I was impressed by both your and Hunter’s work out there, Blackbird.” Power Guy glanced at Totem and Nightvision, who both nodded in approval. “I’d like to invite you into the ranks of the Titans of Justice, if you’d like.
Blackbird both smirked and blushed. She was honored, and Hunter was as well. The red head glanced back to where Hunter was supposed to be standing but noticed it was nowhere to be seen.
“Hunter?” she asked. In the background, White Wraith walked up and stood next to Blackbird. He looked over at Nightvision, who looked back at Blackbird.
“Where do you think he is, Brenda?” he asked dryly. Blackbird immediately turned around and saw him across the huge room kneeling down next to Solution. Power Guy, Phantom Lady, Totem, and Nightvision stood side-by-side and watched as Blackbird walked towards the brothers. Geo-Force, Blackout, the Ray, Black Orchid, and White Wraith stood off to side smiling. As she approached the two men, tears filled her eyes.
“We saved him, Blackbird. We saved him,” Hunter said through tears. Solution was unconscious but alive and breathing. Hunter cradled his brother in his arms overjoyed he was even alive.
“Yeah, we did Hunter. We did,” she replied, letting a tear fall down her cheek. White Wraith appeared behind Hunter and kneeled down, putting his hand on Hunter’s shoulder.
“I’ll take him to the Hall and make sure that his health is top priority,” White Wraith said, almost sounding sincere and kind. Hunter looked up and smiled, showing his approval. The entity telekinetically raised Solution from Hunter’s arms and the two soon disappeared into nothing. Blackbird and Hunter walked back to the group, where police had arrived and were taking Professor Ivo to jail.
“Nice job team,” Power Guy said kindly. His smile raised the spirits of her remaining heroes. “If you would accept, I’d like to welcome you two into the ranks of the Titans of Justice. You deserve it.”
Blackbird looked down and backwards, scoffing slightly. She knew now would be the perfect time to introduce the idea of her team. Hunter put his hand on her shoulder and looked into Power Guy’s eyes.
“We’re honored, Power Guy, but Blackbird and I are going to decline membership. You know about the Outsiders and you know that the both of us are going to be leading. We’d also like Blackout, the Ray, and Geo-Force to join the team with us,” Hunter said firmly. Power Guy hadn’t expected that reaction and sighed quietly. Totem and Phantom Lady remained still while Nightvision turned away. The four invited heroes fought back smiles and looked at each other in excitement.
Power Guy paused for a minute as he considered Blackbird‘s request, “That sounds like a good idea. Good luck to you all,” Power Guy finally said. He pressed a button on his belt and immediately a warp hole from the Hall of Justice’s teleport system opened up behind Hunter and Blackbird. Power Guy, Totem, and Phantom Lady walked through but Nightvision lingered behind. He pulled out three file folders and handed them to Blackbird.
“Look into it. I think they can help you,” he said before walking through the warp hole. It then closed behind Nightwing’s son and quiet once again fell on the group. Finally, Blackbird said to the remaining heroes.
“Welcome to the Outsiders.”
