Hulk Hogan and Chuck Norris make me want Portugal to win. Haha, but not Lil Jon? I laughed when I saw this on twitter, I think the goal was to be as obnoxious as possible. They succeeded. I don't know who Lil John is. But Peter Griffin dressed as Cap is a SUPER PLUS!
TEAM AMERICA, however, is more annoying than obnoxious.

Heck of a waist-shot by Dempsey to get U.S.A. up 2-1!

Damn, they almost had it...amazing what can happen in 30 secs...they're gone from an assured 6 to a possible 4 with this draw.
PS Did anyone catch Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the US audience in the stadium?

And Portugal scores in the last 30 seconds to tie. Unbelievable.

I'm as familiar with his career as I am with soccer (which is to say, not at all), but I suspect the reference is to the idiot* rapper who goes by that name. *That is, my impression, based mainly on what I've seen of his appearance, is that he's an idiot. Perhaps he's actually a Rhodes scholar. The fact that he is, or at least was, quite popular also makes idiocy likely, though not necessarily certain.

Great analysis of FIFA and corruption.

FIFA and Olympic corruption seems to be about the same. The disallowing of any criticism by participants is a nice touch. They certainly don't want to take their events to countries that already have facilities built. Where will the construction kickbacks come from?
The NCAA though will use your name and likeness in a video game and you never get a penny, even years after you've graduated. The players get paid scholarships to go to school for free, but they can't hold another job to pay for things like food or clothes. And watch out if you try to make a dime on memorabilia with your name on it.
It seems the NCAA will be forced to change soon, the other two may take a bit longer.

Exiting day in the world of golf yesterday as Michelle Wie makes good on a decade of anticipation and wins her first major championship. The Women's US Open was competed on the same course as the Men's, Pinehurst #2. The pins on Sunday were identical for both final rounds, though the men played a course 1200 yards longer.
Kevin Streelman wins in Hartford with a record closing streak. No one in PGA Tour history had birdied the last seven holes in a row to win before.
He may be rusty, but Tiger's back this week for his foundation's tournament in Washington DC.

Is Soccer still unpopular in the USA? The USA-Portugal match attracted 18,200,000 viewers according to ratings....and can only get better if the USA advances.

Is Soccer still unpopular in the USA? The USA-Portugal match attracted 18,200,000 viewers according to ratings....and can only get better if the USA advances. And that was just the ESPN feed. There were another 6.5 million American viewers on Univision, the Spanish language network, for an estimated total of 24.7 million viewers. Ratings will no doubt be down for the Germany match simply because it's on at noon on a Thursday instead of Sunday night at 6 p.m. But if we get to the next round, who knows. The ratings also continue to show the high level of interest (relatively speaking, anyway) here in New England. Boston was again in the top 5 for ratings nationwide (it was 4th) with Hartford (5th) and Providence (6th) right behind. We do enjoy our sports up here.

Is Soccer still unpopular in the USA? The USA-Portugal match attracted 18,200,000 viewers according to ratings....and can only get better if the USA advances. There are some Americans who really really don't like soccer. It's not enough for them to do something else for a few hours; they feel they have to make some tedious (and utterly ridiculous) criticisms of soccer. It doesn't matter that these criticisms make no sense to people who actually watch soccer. The detractors seem to be kind of pissed that the sports that Americans are good at are only played in a few countries, and they feel threatened by soccer's popularity.
And this insecurity makes them say some STUPID SH*T!!
Stuff like that. It's pretty sad.
I really can't tell if the popularity of soccer in the US is growing. The growing desperation of the detractors (their arguments seem to get stupider every time the World Cup rolls around) makes me think that, yes, awareness of soccer in the US is growing and some people who have been putting it down for years just can't admit that they are full of it.

How does one who claims soccer is "too slow" account for baseball's popularity?
I've only recently started watching soccer (hard to find on TV here), but it's probably second only to baseball for me.
