@mrp, it's the right wrist that they are saying Sale broke.
No witnesses yet, so the doubters are wondering what really happened, given Sale's penchant for unbalanced outbursts.
Oddly, it was the Sox that made the announcement, one they didn't really ahve to make at all; No one would have been the wiser.
If he did incur the injury in a fall from a bike going down a hill, one question is, WTF are you riding a bike with a broken left pinky to begin with? You can't afford a frikkin' cab ride?
Other questions? Was a bike even involved? If it was, did he fall and then lose his temper and smash his wrist that way? (RIP, Worcester television set and White Sox throwbacks.)
Did he smash his wrist in some other way? Does he have bird-bone-itis? Do things get out of hand every so often with Mr. and Mrs. Sale? (i.e. Can you really fracture a rib throwing a pitch?)
So happy for Jackie, who must be ROTFLHAO at the Sox and the Bloominati, who are now stuck with Mantle in centerfield for the rest of this miserable year. That's Reggie Mantle, of course.

And now Tanner Houck of the Red Sox is on the 15 day IL with an inflamed back.

The report I saw was that he was in for treatment, took a quick bike ride to get lunch and a little exercise and was planning on returning but hit something going downhill and was thrown from the bike. How accurate that is, I don't know, but that was the report I saw just after the Sox announced the surgery. Haven't seen any of the speculation that is was something different, so hadn't heard that. -M

Yeah, and get this, Sale claims he took the spill in Cleveland Circle and there were no witnesses.
Um, yeah, nobody walking or driving in Cleveland Circle at lunchtime.
Curiouser and curiouser.

To be fair it's been a long time since I was in Cleveland Circle, but it used to be you could get mugged in broad daylight there and no one would be a witness because they were trying too hard to look the other way. It happened to more than a few of my classmates during my time at BC. Hell a gang fight erupted in the park next to the movie theatre I worked at in the Circle and no one called the police until one of the combatants was thrown threw the window of the theatre I worked at and we did. But again, it's been 25-30 years since I set foot in Cleveland Circle. And when Sox, Celtics, or Bruin players came to a movie (as happened quite a bit back then), most folks didn't make as stir unless they were tourists. -M

Yeah, pretty safe these days, especially on a Saturday morning, when this supposedly happened.

From the BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-62397375It does seem a bit old hat in 2022. In the pre-internet age, I enjoyed watching them with my stepdad, both for my team (Aston Villa) and some of the other teams I was following. I was always interested in what Rangers and Celtic were doing. But in this day and age, I can check results on my smartphone. “Appointment TV” may exist in some form, but it isn’t always desirable.

As of this morning, the Mets are winning the battle of New York and have a better record than the Yankees. The Yankee train seems to have hit the skids after the All Star Break (even so they still have a 10.5 game lead in their division, but the Astros have tied them for best record in the league).
Ah baseball, how I love thee.

A softball team made up of Classic Comics members can beat the Yanks at this point in time The way I run these days, Jarren Duran could misplay a flyball from me in what would be a stand up triple for most human beings, and still have time to recover and beat me to first base and step on the bag himself to force me out before I get to first base. -M

Since Chris Sale's 5-year, $145 million extension took effect in 2020 he has: * Made 11 starts * Posted a playoff ERA of 8.00 * Missed nearly 2 years to Tommy John * Contracted COVID * Broken a rib throwing a pitch * Broken a pinky on a liner * Broken a rib falling off a bike from John Tomase, NBC Sports Boston Sox beat writer -M Got COVID twice, in fact. And you forgot the 'unidentified personal problem' that set him back a few weeks this year. As far as Matt Carpenter goes, might be for the best, there was zero chance he was sustaining that level of production for much longer, this way he gets to have an AMAZING stat line. Just think how good his Strat-o-Matic card will be!

That's Reggie Mantle, of course. yeah, the prevailing theory on WEEI seemed to be that the plethora of specifics are proof of a coverup. I certainly agree it makes no sense. I had chocked up the rib thing to his not being under supervision during the lockout and trying to be tough when he was a little hurt and making it worse, but maybe not. SUPER disappointed in Duran.. honestly, they'd have been better off DFA'ing him. I've 100% off his bandwagon.

Just think how good his Strat-o-Matic card will be! Strange logic for a fan of the team he plays for. As far as Strat-O-Matic goes, I'll bet the online version is more active then the board game. On their website it costs $47 to get the 2021 teams and activate the game. you can play against a computer or other players via a network connection
