Meanwhile the Angels gave up 4 prospects to get Houston Street from the Padres, giving the Pads farm system and future outlook a nice little boost. ... & much more importantly, depriving my fantasy roster of its best source for saves, Joe Smith, who will surrender that role to Street. Boooooooooooo.

The 49ers have a sweet looking new stadium. You should all drop what you're doing and see it.

.I'll be right over, just as soon as some cataclysmic geological event moves Alabama over to California or vice versa.

I just could never get into baseball. There was no one to ever sit me down and explain to me how it works and why it's fun. To this day I'm still not completely aware of the all of the game nuances. I know the basic rules, but when it gets to statistics and how they're significant and what specific reasons why I have no idea. It's a shame, because I feel like I've missed out on a great game that has brought joy to a lot of people. When the SF Giants finally won a World Series I felt a little bit like an outsider relishing in the glory of it all. I was living in the city at the time for both victories and attended the second parade. I know the first one still means a lot to a good amount of people because of how long it took to finally get a ring for the franchise when it relocated to SF. I see your problem. The Giants suck!
Especially when they win!

I didn't "get" baseball until I was well into adulthood, but now it's my favorite sport.
Things other than basic rules you need to know:
1. Cardinals rule. 2. Win/loss record for a pitcher is overrated. So is ERA, but it's the best of the simple methods for gauging skill. 3. Errors are also a pretty iffy stat. 4. They need to make two significant rule changes: four pitch walks/hit by pitch should be two bases, and on a ground-rule double with two outs all baserunners should score. 5. Seriously, Cardinals rule so hard.

Since they're subjectively assigned and are dependent on the judgment on one random person, I agree. 4. Not feeling either of these needs to be implemented. 5. Seriously, no.

Not the best golf he could have played, but Rory McIlroy wins the British Open by two. He is the third youngest player to win three majors and three separate majors after only Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
In a gambling story that would impress even Ultimatejezebel, his father and three friends each placed 100 pound bets a decade ago that Rory would win this tournament before he turned 26. They will each cash a ticket for about $85,400. Rory got $1,660,000 for winning the tournament.
One tip for Rory. When giving a speech at a place called Royal Liverpool, do not mention that you root for Manchester United.

I've got no idea what RsBI is. I tried Bing, but it just gave a bunch of results for some breathing exercise. If that's what you're referring to, I am pro-breathing. If you tell me what it means I'll form an opinion right now, but if it takes fielders/offense out of the equation when calculating pitcher talent I am for it. As for the rule changes, I'll admit they're kinda odd. But I HATE intentional walks and feel like doubles clear the bases more often than not (which may very well not be the case).

If you have that rule change how do you differentiate an 4 pitch intentional walk form a pitcher who just lost the strike zone and throws four balls in a row. Also what's then to stop a a manager form calling for 4 straight balls after a first pitch strike or having the pitcher intentionally walking someone but throwing a strike somewhere in the count so it's not a four pitch walk? Which will just add more pitches and more time to already too long games and nothing else will change. I played in a co-ed intramural softball league in college where male players got 2 bases on a walk (intentional or not) while female players only got one to try to encourage teams to not pitch around the guys to pitch to the girls. I was our teams clean up hitter and I still had more walks than official at bats that season. If it won't force in a run, and a manager wants to pitch around someone, they'll still do it despite the rule. It's a needless change that won't achieve the effect you desire and would remove some of the strategy from the game, which is what sets it apart from many other pro sports. -M

Oh and if Cards rule and have been owned by the Sox in the last two World Series they played, either the Sox are a step beyond ruling or the Cards aren't all you cracked them up to be.

The HBP rule is more to protect batters. I don't think managers would start throwing at guys just to save a base, but you never know. A strike during an at-bat nullifies the extra base unless the batter is hit (this is still two bases). I don't agree that it wouldn't cut down on intentional walks. If a manager doesn't want to put one runner in scoring position (and they don't) he definitely doesn't want to put two (one of which is then a fly ball from scoring). It doesn't remove strategy, it just changes it. edit: And just to be clear, my saying they "need" to be implemented was in jest. I'd like it just because there is a bigger risk involved in doing a thing I dislike, but I'm fine if it doesn't happen.
