According to Gordon Edes (on his Twitter feed on ESPN Boston), the Sox are close to finalizing a deal to send Lackey to the NL, and it looks like Cards or Dodgers are the team.... I don't get trading Lackey now...but hey...I'm not a billionaire sports team owner so what do I know. -M Sounds like it is to the Cards. I was about to write I can't remember the last time a team blew it up like this but then I quickly remembered the whole Beckett-Gonzales-Crawford escapade. Never a dull moment.

Gahhh!!! I'm 2000 miles away and I get sucked right back in!!!

Craig was great until he got hurt. I'd kinda loss faith he'd ever return to previous form and was all for moving him, but not with Kelly for a guy that probably won't re-sign (assuming Cards got no assurances).
Kelly has some upside, but I guess with all the young arms something had to give and he's been hurt a fair amount this year. I may miss his sense of humor more than his pitching.
When he came up he said his great-uncle was Machine Gun Kelly and they put it in the guide. He was, of course, lying.

Kelly gives up a lot of hits and in a park like Fenway as opposed to Busch that means his ERA is going to go up, plus there is always the NL/AL ERA divide because of the DH, so a guy with a 1.46 WHIP and 4.37 ERA this season is not someone you look to build around. He's a #5 option at best for Boston, and injury prone and you just traded your two horses away.
Your best starter now is Buckholtz, who's a #3 at best due to injury and inconsistency, your best pitching prospects project to #3 starters, which means you are going to tax your bullpen decreasing its effectiveness.
They're not going to give Lester the $$ it will take in free agency, so he's not coming back (if they were willing to give him the $$ the deal would have been done in spring), if they chase Scherzer or a name like that-they go against the very financial conservativeness they have been preaching that is behind the fire sale, and at least half your fan base will ask why you didn't give Lester the $$ if you were willing top pay more for Scherzer. Lackey meanwhile is a horse who us under contract for only $500K for next season. I'm sure Cherington is doing his best to salvage something out of the lemons ownership is feeding him, but I don't see what the game plan is. Ravage the rotation for two barely above average outfielders and an injury prone junk-baller #5 starter? How does that help your team or position them to be better in 2015?
You can probably kiss Andrew Miller goodbye too if he wants to pitch for a contender, and there's no guarantee Koji resigns or remains effective next year, you lost clubhouse leaders, and you got back extraneous pieces (who are not signed long term either), not a core to build around. It seems like busy work rather than a plan being implemented. We're having a bad season so it has to look like we're doing something so do something.

I'm legit pissed now.

Me too! But he won't start over Waino. That all depends how the LDS and LCS play out, where in the rotation they are and how many days rest. If LCS goes 7, Wainwright probably started that and won't be available Game 1 of WS. -M

ESPN is now saying the Rays are now resigned to moving Price and the Cards are still interested. If the Cards give up Tavares now I am done with baseball forever*.
*Forever may last up to, but will not extend beyond, Price's first appearance.

Miller goes to the O's not the Tigers, and we get the O's #3 prospect in the deal. And the cherry on top for the day, we traded Stephen Drew and his .176 BA to the Yankees. Have fun with Dirt there Ish.

Price to Tigers. I think I'm happy.
Tavares just hit a two-run homer. I'm definitely happy.

Evidently, every player in baseball has been traded for every other player in baseball.
