The Twins have signed an undrafted rookie who throws 100 mph. storyHis story really sounds like the plot of a Disney baseball movie.... -M

Sox trade a lefty....but not John Lester (yet?)
Sox have shipped Felix Doubroundt off the the Cubs for the infamous player to be named later (in this case-whatever low level prospect the Cubs have left after the rule V draft).
Thanks Theo! Actually Epstein is the one who brought Felix in and saw potential, so maybe they think they can straighten him out in Chicago (it worked so well with Daniel Bard!)

Watched that pounding they took to the Jays the other night but... BUT... one thing I don't miss is the day-in-day-out scrutiny from April to September that you get living in Boston. That was stressful and it seems particularly stressful this season. It'll be interesting to hear my dad's thoughts when I call home this week.

Last year was so serendipitous, and added to the heady concoction that is three Series wins in 10 years, there's been kind of love hangover. However, the imminent trade of Lester could be the Aqua Velva slap in the face that may make things ugly for a while. Lucky for the Sox the expectations for the Pats have been stratospheric, so there's been lots of attention paid to training camp at Foxboro. (Thousands of fans are going every day!) The morning after for the Sox and their fans could be long and bleary. Nothing a little Giancarlo Stanton couldn't cure, though.

I can see trading Lester, especially if they give a good go of resigning him in the off-season. What gets me is that talk of trading Lackey-he's under contract next year at $500K, you need an experienced horse to eat innings if you don't get Lester back, so where's the logic in dealing him?

Well, just think, if you manage to make the post season, the Sox won't be there to dash your World Series dreams....again. -M

I was going to report that post for not respecting my feelings in these trying times, but it wouldn't let me specify that I wanted to report it to you and not bother the other mods.

Bobby V, World Series, and this... an odd three seasons.

Holy Crikey. Yoenis Cespedes! Not the kind of player I was expecting to get back for Johnny Lester. Well we know who the left fielder is now. Great arm to, with JBJ in center too, teams will have to think twice about running on the Sox. Helps the outfield offense certainly, but not your prototypical Sox hitter as he lacks plate discipline and may not grind out ABs the way the Sox prefer. Still, I'd rather get a proven commodity than an untried prospect if we were to deal Lester. The way Oakland goes about things, I don't see them ponying up the cash to keep Lester long term though, so it will be interesting to see how it develops in free agency.
Sad to see Johnny Go-go-Gomes go though. Great character guy who didn't produce a lot, but always seemed to produce when it mattered.

According to Gordon Edes (on his Twitter feed on ESPN Boston), the Sox are close to finalizing a deal to send Lackey to the NL, and it looks like Cards or Dodgers are the team....
I don't get trading Lackey now...but hey...I'm not a billionaire sports team owner so what do I know.
