I really hate the Nats, but I have no desire to face the Giants again.

Oh, I know, and I'm happy for the Cards and you! They solved him but good. Nothing against Kershaw, but if Adrian Gonzales never wins a playoff series ever, that's okay by me.

Blasted Cardinals do it again On paper, that team should not be as good as they are. Molina, Peralta and Carpenter are legitimate, but Matt Holliday has the range of a lawn statue in LF, John Jay is the very definition of "mediocre", and Matt Adams and Kolten Wong were relatively useless in the regular season through August, but once the calendar turned to September, they inexplicably morphed into really good players. The pitching staff is pretty good just because of the presence of Adam Wainwright, but Lynn and Miller are only slightly better than average and Wacha was hurt a good deal of the year. Their bullpen seems to get lit up on a pretty regular basis, but somehow they find ways to win. On top of it all, my boss is from St. Louis and a HUGE Cardinals fan, so I'm going to have to listen to her chirping about her Ratbirds until someone finally puts them down, which will probably have to be the Giants (another "how is this team any good" question for me), since the American League finalists aren't exactly juggernauts themselves. On the positive side, at least it ain't the Yankees.

Why is one of the Newhart Darrells playing RF (I guess it is) for the Giants?

Why is one of the Newhart Darrells playing RF (I guess it is) for the Giants? Well the other brother Daryl is in left field and Larry is the bench coach, so.... -M

An old gf of mine danced with one of the Darrells/Daryls/whatevers during a newspaper assignment in Fayetteville, Ark., when she was a cub reporter, a couple of years before I met her at the Little Rock newspaper. I still think she should've written a memoir called "I Danced with a Darrell."

Game 1 of the NLCS goes to the Giants. Madison Bumgarner played a fantastic game.

I've been a Cowboys fan as long as I can remember-my dad was stationed near Dallas when the team started and followed them after his military service ended, so we were a Cowboys house in New England growing up-buy I remember the days of Roger Staubach, the two Pearsons-Drew and Preston the RB who preceded Tony Dorsett, and have followed them through all the ups and downs over the years...but despite the 4-1 start I was still not a believer this year. I was still thinking the start was fool's good after predicting during training camp they would finish 6-10 or worse this year, even saying last week that the 4-1 start didn't even mean my prediction was wrong yet. Most of their wins were against bad and mediocre teams and the one win over a good team was one having a down season.
After today, I think I might be starting to believe. This team is still flawed and needs to shore up a few areas to be sure, and they are paper thin on the depth chart at a few positions so a key injury here or there could derail the season, but they look like they might be playing well enough to be a playoff team this year without it all coming down to a win in the last week of the season as the make or break game...we'll see, but it looks like it might be more fun to follow this team this year than I thought it was going to be. It's refreshing change from the past decade or so of mediocrity, and a welcome occurrence after this year's frustrating Sox season.
They dominated the Seahawks in 2 phases of the game, and went into that house of horrors and punched the Seahawks in the jaw and took a win from them. That O-line of the Cowboys looks like it could be special for a long time, and the defense is playing way over the talent level of the personnel. Kudos to Marinelli on that. DeMarco Murray is having a special season so far too, only the second back in NFL history to start the season with 6 straight 100 yard games (Jim Brown being the other). We've got the hated Giants next week (I have a special hate for them growing up in Giant's territory in CT during the Phil Simms, Lawrence Taylor era). Let's see what happens....
