Yeah, I'm a big rugby fan. It's probably the sport I most enjoy watching and has been the last several years. As with most Canadians, hockey is always number 1 with me, in a way, but my favourite era for hockey was the 70s, while I enjoy watching the current brand of rugby as much as or more than at any time since I first became a fan back in the early 90s. They didn't show the All-Blacks/Eagles match on the channel we get our rugby on here but I managed to find an online version that I haven't watched yet. Not sure how much good these mismatches do to promote the game in places like North America where rugby isn't a major pro sport, to be honest. Mate you would be better off waiting till Saturday night and catch the AB's vs England. Sure to be a much more even affair, 2 evenly matched sides who hate to lose to each other. Have you ever watched Rugby League? It would probably appeal a little more to the American audience (or even bloodthirsty Canuck Hockey maniacs) as its structure of getting 6 tackles to make your play, then handing possession over(one way or another), would remind them of their football. They just dont pad up and tackle like maniacs. A big story here at the moment is of Jarryd Hayne, a top Australian player, who quit the NRL(the main Australian comp) to go to America and chase a tryout for an NFL/AFL team, with no guarantee of a shot let alone a contract.

yes, I have watched a bit of League. They have some amazingly talented players, but I find the game itself a little one-dimensional - up and down the field in a more structured, predictable manner than in Union. I think you're certainly right that it would be easier than Union for the casual North American viewer to get to grips with - but then I'm not a huge fan of American football.
But you really do notice that when League stars make the transition to Union, they often seem to have a big impact - Sonny Bill Williamson being the obvious example.
Not following Rugby League closely I hadn't heard of Jarryd Hayne before, but that is a very interesting story. I'm old enough to remember when there was talk of NFL teams looking at Jonah Lomu, but that always seemed to be more press speculation than anything substantial. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the Jarryd Hayne situation now. What kind of player was he in Rugby League? I wonder what position is he going to play, or has it got that far yet?
And yes, of course, very much looking forward to NZ vs England, who often seem to come up with a good performance against the All-Blacks.

Jarryd was a Fullback/Winger, an amazing well balanced runner, good ball skills. The speculation was/is for him to try out for Running Back (whatever that is) or the guy who returns the kick-offs (hoping here that they arent the same thing).

You know, I just looked him up on wiki and I must have seen him play for Australia in the Rugby League World Cup last year, because I watched a few games of that, but Australia was so dominant I never really noticed anybody standing out for them - the whole team stood out!

Oklahoma City Thunder is getting worst and worst by the minute ... Horrible Way to start a season! Look at the bright side. The Warriors are 4-0 and blowing the doors off folks.

Try looking at a youtube clip of him, there are quite a few of his best trys, and you can see how good he is. He has an amazing ability to shrug off tackles, keep his balance, and accelerate through the defence. still...you guys have such a huge numbers advantage(population wise) that he may well be just average over there.

The 49ers pulled it out. That game took 10 years off of my life. Played great in the first half and then almost choked it away in the second half. The offense is really pissing me off. The amount of drops in this game was ridiculous. Especially from Boldin. Colin wasn't perfect either, but made some good plays out there. That 4th and 10 play felt like the season was on the line. Still can't believe that happened. The offense line played well in the run game. The pass game was iffy, but some of those 4 sacks that were given up (yet again) were on Colin. He needs to be more aware of pressure, and make some kind of adjustments pre snap. Also, he needs to learn to get rid of the ball faster if a play isn't there.
49ers defense won this game. Yeah 24 points were given up, but beating the Saints at home is no easy task. I hate that the 49ers have had to come here three straight years. A load of BS to be honest. Anyways, Chris Borland has played like a maniac in the absence of Willis and Bowman. Took him a little while, but he has come on in the last two contests. He's simply been everywhere it's ridiculous. 35 tackles in the last two games. That is nuts. Ahmad Brooks got his revenge after last year's bogus call and made Brees pay. He came through today in a critical moment when we needed it. I still think he's on his way out though with rookie Lynch showing promise and Aldon Smith coming back. I expect to see his time reduce next week when Aldon Smith is available, and I think this is his last year.
Just glad to be 5-4. I'm leaving the country for a few weeks tomorrow and this win will sit good with me on that 14 hour plane ride. GO NINERS!!!

The Chicago Bears have existed for nearly a century. This is the worst half of football they have EVER played. Mark Trestman should be fired at halftime.

Just read that the Lakers released streamers when they beat the Hornets last night. How pathetic.

CBS Sports is reporting that the Miami Marlins and Giancarlo Stanton have agreed on a 13 year $325 million contract extension, which will include a no trade clause and an opt out clause for Stanton. Supposedly language is just being finalized before deal is finalized.
I expect the next CBS news report to be that Jeffrey Loria has been found being held in a small Latin American country and the impostor who ok'ed this deal has been apprehended and facing federal fraud charges....

Well a good day dawns in kiwiland, as our mighty All Blacks vanquish the dreaded Scots(just), and better still the Kiwis finally beat the Aussies in the Rugby League World Cup Final, making it 2 in a row against them for the first time in ...um...a lot of years. Both teams just won, but just is enough aint it?

Today is my least favorite day of the year.
The day I clean up the golf clubs and put them away for the winter.

The Portland Trail Blazers don't seem to have any weaknesses. Their offense can cope with any defense, and the new thing this year is that their defense can cope with any offense. Look out NBA - this team could really go places.

Arkansas apparently has a pretty stout defense, while Auburn has none at all. We are now in the era of the Bizarro SEC.
