Here's my five selections that are HOF Material.Jerome Bettis, RB (1993-2005) Don Coryell, Coach (1973-86) Charles Haley, DE (1986-99) Orlando Pace, LT (1997-2009) Junior Seau, LB (1990-2009) I want Don Coryell to get in the HOF because he was an innovative-type coach that made the Air a lethal weapon; I shudder the thought of Air Coryell because Dan Fouts, Charlie Joiner, John Jefferson, Chuck Muncie, and Kellen Winslow scared the daylights out of me. With all those offensive weapons - I'm surprised that they never, ever won a Super Bowl together. It's baffled me. I was hoping that these three will make it eventually. Morten Andersen, K (1982-2007) Will Shields, RG (1993-2006) Kurt Warner, QB (1998-2009 Unfortunately that San Diego D was never really remarkable. You can't just keep getting into shootout after shootout and expect to get a ring. When the Chargers lost Fred Dean and Gary Johnson it was a blow they couldn't ever really recover from. Especially Dean. |

Completely disagree on Kurt Warner. He had three great seasons with the Rams to start his NFL career, then a string of six seasons where he was average or worse with the Rams/Giants/Cardinals, then finished up with two decent seasons in Arizona. If people like Tim Brown, Marvin Harrison and Jerome Bettis are having difficulty getting into the HOF, there is no way on earth Warner should get in unless he buys himself a ticket to see the guys who actually deserve to be there. My apologies to everyone for the double post, but I don't know how two quote two people at once. I am pretty confident he gets in. While I would say the only slam dunk for tomorrow is Junior Seau, a lot of people in the football media seem pretty convinced Warner will get in. He's a three-time NFC champion, and while he only won one Super Bowl, he was its MVP. He also holds the top 3 passing records for Super Bowls. And he has the record for the most passing yards in a single playoff campaign, along with the 7th best QB passer rating of all time, and the third highest completion percentage of all-time. Warner also has the highest playoff completion percentage in NFL history. His Pro-Bowl appearances are kind of on the lower side for a QB at 4, but he did have some good competition in the NFC at that position. And He was the NFL MVP twice, which is the same amount of times as Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Tom Brady. But anyway, we'll find out tomorrow night I suppose! The problem is that the "shooting star" idea just doesn't float well with a lot of the voters as we've seen over the years. Warner played MVP for three years, then was average for a while, and played pretty good at the end, but not as well as his days in St.Louis (different cast of course). You look at a guy like Curtis Martin who maybe had one year where he was maybe the best back in the NFL over a ten year career and he gets first ballot I think. Whereas Terrell Davis, who was the clear-cut best back in the NFL for at least two years, won two Super Bowls, dominated in the playoffs better than any running back ever, rushed for 2000 yards, and was MVP has failed to make it in after being on the ballot for maybe close to ten years now. Consistency over a period of years is valued more than a short successful stint. This is also why Jimmy Johnson isn't in the Hall of Fame. |

In American football, Air Coryell is the name given to the offensive scheme and philosophy developed by former San Diego Chargers coach Don Coryell. Besides the term "Air Coryell", the offensive philosophy developed by Coryell has been called the "Coryell offense" or the "vertical offense". With Dan Fouts as quarterback, the San Diego Chargers' offense was among the greatest passing offenses in National Football League history. The Chargers led the league in passing yards an NFL record five consecutive years from 1979 to 1983[1] and again in 1985. They also led the league in total yards in offense 1978–83 and 1985. And that is probably part of the problem. Personally the Hall of Fame for football is kind of a joke sometimes as far as the voting goes. I expect Hines Ward to get in because he was a media darling and I don't expect Terrell Owens to get in because the perception of him is that he's a jerk. Probably the same reason it took Cris Carter so long to get in. Or Andre Reed/Tim Brown (who isn't in) because they weren't media darlings. The voters are told every year to only consider the on-field accomplishments for candidacy, but for a while I've thought that there is a bit of favoritism every year. Coaches are the same way maybe. George Seifert and Tom Flores aren't in despite winning two Super Bowls. |

I don't know if those voters will be able to ignore that he made 12 straight pro bowls. I'm still confident Warner will be in tonight, but we will find out soon. The NFL honors begins in less than 45 minutes. The program is two hours, so I don't know when within that window the hall of fame class will be announced, but I hope it's sooner rather than later. However, it appears as though I am wrong with at least one of my five. Owens is second all time in yards behind only Jerry Rice. Ward is 23rd. Owens is a 5 time first team All Pro. Ward was never even an All Pro once. Owens has 153 touchdowns and ranks 3rd behind Rice and Moss. Ward has 85 ranking 15th. I'll say that Ward definitely had a nicer perception in regards to the media as a person. But as a player, Owens was clearly better. Ward was never considered the best receiver in the NFL. |
