I'd also point out that discussion about new comics was getting a lot more buried when it was being done in one all purpose thread within a larger section of the board. I'd like to think this is at least a better solution than that was.

These changes are the step towards the right direction and I don't mind it one bit and helps us focus on the task at hand. I was surprised to see these changes today. Thanks for doing that.

I think it's great! While I don't mind the giant thread, this is better, and people who aren't interested can always skip it.
For those that think it's too much trouble, there's bookmarks, the 'participated' tab, etc that can make things easier.

Ok, I think understand a little better why you did what you did Shax -- essentially, HOJ is to be considered our DC comics subforum, and so you wanted Marvel and independent subforums to mirror the structure of HOJ. I get it.
Since HOJ is it's own pre-existing community, I agree it should be grandfathered as it was and left alone. My suggestion is that apart of HOJ, the board should only be one level deep. Clicking on any subforum link from the main forum page should take you to a listing of threads, not more subforums to navigate. I don't think we need a collectibles and media adaptations subforum for each different publisher -- just have one forum for Marvel and one for independents encompassing comics and all related materials. Or you could just have one forum for modern comics, and another for TV/movies/merchandise. I also don't think that collapsing the navigational hierarchy requires you to have a massive subforum listing for the main page -- just have fewer forums then. If you want to talk about presenting what our focus is -- we're a comics board, not a comic book TV shows/movies/collectibles board. Given your logic on wanting to emphasize classic comics over anything else, in the same vein I think comics as a medium should get priority over collectibles and adaptations (as much as a love those things too) by having less forum real estate dedicated to those things versus comics.
Bottom line is that the dividing of the various subforums can be done in any number of ways, but my strong preference would be for a flat navigational structure vs. the three level deep structure we have now.

A feature I have seen on other bulletin boards that might be useful is to have a link that compiles all threads into a single list in order of latest post. I've seen them do this and then when in that view, you can reply to existing threads but not start posts, so that they stay properly organized. Don't know if this would be a pain to program or not, but it does work pretty well on a long running b-board I also check out.

I'm on my mobile and don't recall how to do it from the desktop, but I'm sure some of our other posters could go into more detail.

Sounds like a good change. A natural progression of things. One thing I'm wondering though is if small press needs it's own subforum instead of being lumped in with the other third party publishers? I figure small press will pretty much be a ghost town. I follow many small press comics but even at that, the sporadic nature of their release and the small print runs ensure not many others would be following the same exact ones I do, and we're not likely to have a whole lot to discuss regarding them.I have a feeling that subforum will be a ghost town.

We figured we'd take a try-it-and-see approach. it's entirely possible it will go underused, but, then again, that's the same reason most comic forums don't have a classic comics section I just feel that true small press is a very different animal than the big guys who aren't DC and Marvel. Should there be an interest in discussing these publishers and works, such conversation deserves it's own space. And if it proves to be a ghost town, we'll delete it. No harm done.

Would small press be the same thing as webcomics ?
In my mind they're similar but different. Just wondering. I recently got turned on to a few webcomics and was blown away at the originality of some of them.

So we have several new boards dedicated to random things, but still Brother Power the Geek doesn't get his own subforum?
What's up with that?

I understand what you did...and why you did it. And overall I'm okay with it. It probably will take my discussion of new(ish) comics down to nil. There are just too many sub-forums to dig through. I kind of liked the omnibus New Comics thread. My immediate reaction is pretty much the same. But I recognise that a lot - maybe the majority? - of other posters/members will find this expansion of threads devoted to new comics more to their taste. I'm willing to give it a try. Maybe it'll work out better in practice than it feels to me at first glance. One thing I wonder about - and again, maybe I'm in a small minority here - but apart from a few exceptions like Fantagraphics and Drawn & Quarterly, I've never really distinguished much amongst the other independents. I don't really have any idea who publishes what, let alone a mental picture of any house style that would help me recognise, for example, an Image from a Boom series - any more than I have any idea which publisher, I dunno, Steven King or Martin Amis is with right now. This of course is one of the great advantages that Marvel and DC have with their shared universe brands.
