In the crowd scene, Mr. Bones is quoting a line from the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy", in which James Cagney portrayed Broadway legend George M. Cohan. In one scene, Cohan is reading the showbiz paper Variety, and he explains the paper's cryptic headline "Stix Nix Hix Pix" to some teenagers. It refers to the negative reaction of rural audiences to movies about rural life. That headline really did appear in Variety, but it had 'Sticks' instead of 'Stix' and 'Hick' instead of 'Hix'.
