IDW and DC Team-Up for "Star Trek / Green Lantern : The Spectrum War"

The worlds of DC Comics and "Star Trek" are set to collide again this summer, with "Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War" -- a July-debuting miniseries from "Star Trek" license-holder IDW Publishing and DC, announced Saturday during WonderCon. Mike Johnson -- who's written multiple "Star Trek" and DC comics in recent years -- is on board as writer of the six-issue "Spectrum War," joined by artist Angel Hernández, recently of "Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse."

On the DC side, "The Spectrum War" stars Hal Jordan, along with "the entire Green Lantern Corps," arguably the highest-profile sci-fi franchise on the publisher's superhero roster. The Star Trek crew, as seen in the cover art, draws from the current film franchise. Here's the official description of the story: "Set in Star Trek’s 23rd Century, the balance of the universe will be tested when the Green Lantern Corps' Power Rings come into the possession of certain Star Trek characters while a dark and powerful evil looms around every corner. Only the combined power of the Green Lantern Corps and the Federation stand any chance of stopping those who worship evil's might."

"We've looked forward to bringing these two iconic universes together for a long time," Greg Goldstein, IDW President and COO, said in a press release. "Star Trek and Green Lantern both share so many of the same science-fiction adventure themes and ideals, that a galaxy-spanning crossover like this is simply… logical."

This isn't the first DC superhero/"Star Trek" inter-company crossover -- in 2011, IDW and DC teamed up for the six-issue "Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes," written by Chris Roberson and illustrated by Jeffrey Moy.

"Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War" #1 is set to have covers by Gabriel Rodriguez and Francesco Francavilla (both seen above), plus Garry Brown and Elsa Charretier. Subsequent issues are slated to have covers by artists including Declan Shalvey and Marc Laming.
