A collection of clips and commercials that defined so many of our childhood Saturday mornings....
with many familiar friends from the comics we read too...

Big Thanks for finding this wonderful You Tube - It's brought back many good memories as a kid on Saturday Mornings and I enjoyed every second of it.

I can remember in the mid to late 70s, the anticipation for the new fall line-up of Saturday Morning Cartoons was so high that at least one network (ABC/CBS?) would preview the new shows on the preceding Friday night in prime time, hosted by Dick Clark and featuring many of the network's stars of the day.
Having to go to bed after that and wait an agonizing 12 hours for the shows to begin was torture on the level of Christmas Eve. Thanks for posting this, mrp!
ETA: It was ABC, and the practice continued into the 1980s.

Cool, if before my time. I'd be curious to see an analogue for those of us whose childhood occurred in, well, later years.

Mrp, I'll add my thanks to the others for posting that video! Great to see Tennessee Tuxedo, Quick Draw McGraw again, and I practically lived on Kool Pops back then. My older cousins had Battleship and Rock'em Sock 'em Robots.
And speaking of the Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, interesting how many of those '60s toy commercials featured guns and fighting.

The end of Saturday morning cartoons is, along with the ending of newssstand distribution of comics books, one of the greatest tragedies of our modern era.

This would've been before my time if it wasn't for all the glorious reruns stations mixed in with the cartoons of the of the 80's/late 70's/early 90's including some of these in my childhood memories: 60's Spider-Man, Looney Tunes, Fat Albert, Grammar Rock, Archie, Casper, The Jetsons, Space Ghost, Mighty Heroes, Filmation Superman, 60's Fantastic Four, Filmation Aquaman, Filmation Green Lantern, Filmation Flash, Filmation Batman, Scooby Doo, Pink Panther, Jackson 5, Flintstones and Super Friends...
...also the George of the Jungle, Hong Kong Phooey and Monkeys theme songs, if not the actual shows...
...plus - thanks mostly to the internet - I've gotten to see some or all of Shazam, Isis, Atom Ant, Birdman and Dino Boy...
...also, I can't see a Spirograph add without remembering this:

So I guess he was right.
Theme from George of the Jungle was one of the best, but my favorite was Super Chicken. Yes, you read that right.

One of the things I remember best about Saturday Morning cartoons was just before the new season started on that Friday night the networks would show a special with sneak peaks of the new cartoons. These specials were usually hosted by celebrities who were popular with children of that period of that time.
Here is a clip from one of those specials. From ABC from 1973 this special was hosted by the comedy team of Jack Burns & Avery Schreiber.

But where else can I set up my Slip and Slide? or my Jarts game? -M You're fine. That was just directed at that young whippersnapper. Just watch out for my hula-hoop.
