The Titans of Justice satellite…
Several members of the Titans of Justice are aboard their satellite, having just concluded their weekly meeting. Conversations are abundant with the official business over with.
“You know, Quake, that is a really cool costume that you’ve got,” noted Black Orchid.
“Thanks, I like yours too,” replied the Puerto Rican hero. “I wanted to look unique amongst all of the heroes within our group.”
“Why does it look broken, chump?” asked Green Lantern Jo Jo Gardner.
“It’s supposed to, in reflection of my powers.”
“I break stuff too and my costume don’t look broken,” retorted the son of Guy Gardner and Ice.
“Ever the jackass, aren’t you, Gardner?” spat Sargona as she approached the conversing group.
“I’m just being real,” countered Jo Jo.
“Yeah, a REAL jackass,” retorted the daughter of Sargon The Sorcerer and Zatanna.
“Whatever…..you know you dream about me while you sleep at night.”
“Yes, I do,” admitted Sargona, shockingly. “I’m sure you and everyone else has heard me shrieking in the middle of the night due to those horrific nightmares.
Quake and Black Orchid began to chuckle until Black Orchid regained control of herself and said, “Well, I need to run. The government wants me to infiltrate a drug ring in Columbia so I’d better get going.”
“The luxurious life of a spy,” smiled Sargona as Black Orchid teleported to nU Earth.
“Hey Gardner, how about you make yourself useful and go and get me a soda?” called out Dark Arrow from the computer console. The young archer was about halfway through his shift of monitor duty.
“Hey Dork Arrow – how about I quench your thirst by spitting in your mouth?”
“Ugh……..you are the true definition of a PIG!” Sargona said, rolling her eyes.
“Such immaturity should not be tolerated on this team,” Champion thought to herself. “How did Scott manage to serve so long with this group before he retired?”
“Uh oh. You guys better come and take a look at this!” shouted Dark Arrow, whose eyes were glued to the monitor screen. The screen had picked up a signal from Atlantis which was being broadcast through every television station in the world but it was not King Arthur or Queen Mera who had initiated the broadcast but the previously former and once again current Queen Clea-Ocina, long-time foe of the Wonder Family.
“Greetings, surface dwellers. I am Queen Clea, leader of the Crimson Tide and the new monarch of the under-sea nation of Atlantis. For years, my country has been subjected to your pollution, thievery, and trespassing amongst our territory. All of that is about to change now that I am queen once again. In my right hand is the Trident of Atlantis, which was created by the god, Poseidon. Its power is overwhelming and more powerful than any weapon your scientists can put together. Your most populated city known as New York is about to experience a small sample of what this trident is capable of.”
Meanwhile, in New York, a tremor from the sea floor begins to shake the entire city causing cars to crash, bridges to crack, buildings to shake violently, among other disasters. Things take a turn for the worse when a giant tsunami rises up around the city and causes major flooding throughout the Big Apple.
“Oh my God!” exclaimed Dark Arrow. “I’m sending out a priority alert to the entire team. If we don’t act fast, New York will be completely demolished.”
Clea then continues her speech, “As you can see, my followers and I mean business. All surface nations of the world have twenty-four hours to surrender to me and supply Atlantis with fifty percent of your gross income or…..what I did to New York will seem like a sun shower compared to what the entire world will experience. Good day!”
“d**n that witch!” Champion said, clenching her fist.
Just then, Storm Surge teleported in. “Guys, Atlantis is in big trouble.”
“We just heard,” revealed Quake. “Your buddy Clea just took over all of the television stations on earth and made a bunch of ridiculous demands.”
“She has my trident!” blurted out the son of Aquaman and Mera. “Neptune himself forged it. Its power is unimaginable in her hands.”
“I thought it was Poseidon’s trident?” questioned Jo Jo Gardner.
“Poseidon is the Roman version. Neptune is the Greek. Both mean the god of the sea,” explained Quake. “Maybe you should take time out of being a jerk-face and read mythology some time.”
“How is it so much more powerful in her hands than yours?” asked Sargona.
“Clea is almost a century old and has had decades to learn how to use the Trident before Aquaman came into possession of it,” explained the daughter of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor. “She is as cruel and selfish as they come. I will leave for Atlantis immediately to deal with her,” declared, the tall, powerful woman.
“You’re not going alone,” declared Sargona. “Did you see who was standing behind her? A virtual rogues gallery of our enemies – Sting Ray, Devil Ray, the new Marine Marauder, King Shark, and some other guy in a black costume. Everyone here except Dark Arrow will join you.”
“I’m sorry but she captured my parents and said she would kill them if I didn’t hand over the Trident.”
“And she would have too,” confirmed Champion. “You did the right thing, Philip.”
“My father had mentioned how cruel Clea is. Apparently he fought her with your mother before. I think Rima The Jungle Girl was on that mission as well.”
“We better get going,” urged Quake.
“You guys do that,” agreed Dark Arrow. “I’ll get the rest of the Titans to stabilize New York and prepare for any more of Clea’s hijinks.
“Give me one moment,” requested Champion.
“We got a mission on our hands and you need to powder your nose or something?” demanded Jo Jo Gardner.
“Hardly,” replied Champion. One Wonder-spin later….
“What’s that you’re wearing?” asked Sargona, a bit stunned by the conservativeness of Champion’s new outfit.
“This is my water-outfit. It provides me with the ability to breath under-water along with enhanced protection against the pressures of the deep.”
“Honey, you look like a nun preparing for her first swim lesson,” replied Sargona. “I mean that in the nicest way. Here, let me show you my water outfit and maybe you and I can go shopping some time. Gnihtab tius raeppa!”
“Umm….what about me?” asked Quake. “I can’t breathe underwater.”
“Don’t worry, I’ve got a spell for that which I’ll share with you on the way,” smiled Sargona.
Later, as the Titans converged on Atlantis, Storm Surge mentioned, “There’s a secret tunnel that leads to the palace up ahead. We should be able to take Clea and her crew by surprise.”
Meanwhile in the throne room, Clea and her minions were in discussion.
“I want to go eat Aquaman’s arm!” demanded King Shark.
“You will do no such thing, at least not until the money from the surface nations starts poring in,” denied Clea. She then turned her attention to a few of her other lackeys, “Black Eel, Marine Marauder – go check on the former king and queen and see how they’re doing.”
“I love how quickly you took control of the situation, Clea,” complimented the Sting Ray. “To think I’ve served on the Legion of Doom for years and we’ve never taken hold of the world like this!”
“Have you heard from any of them?” asked Devil Ray.
“Yes, I told them that I quit and they can fill my spot with the Fisherman for all I care!”
“I think they’ll be filling in your spot with the word: IMPRISONED” came the voice of Sargona.
The Sting Ray (along with the other villains) whipped around to see the small faction of the Titans of Justice confronting them. “What are YOU doing here?” howled the String Ray as her laser cannons started erupting in Sargona’s direction.
“Dleihs!” Sargona said, conjuring up a defense. She then replied to her long-time foe, “We haven’t danced in a while so I figured you were getting lonely STINK Ray!”
“More knuckle-dragging surface-dwellers,” huffed Clea as the battle between the two teams ignited.
“Hand over the trident,” commanded Storm Surge, firmly.
“Obviously multiple defeats has taught you nothing, Clea,” added Champion.
“You fools want the trident?” questioned the monarch of Atlantis. “Here, have it’s power instead!” she said as it lit up and caused the water around the two heroes to slam them together.
As Storm Surge began to steady himself, King Shark leaped on him and the two began to tussle. The former rogue of Superboy dug his claws into Storm Surge’s leg, causing him to bleed quite a bit.
“ACKK!!!” After clutching his wound briefly, he countered with a strong right hook, sending King Shark flying across the room.
“Was your mother too comfortable sitting on her throne to come here herself?” Clea asked Champion. “I’m a queen! I will not lower myself by fighting a princess. Go home and tell your mother to come here herself!”
“My mother knows that I am more than capable enough to take care of a wicked, old despot such as you,” she said as her bracelet deflected a blast from the Trident of Poseidon.
“Hardly, child!” scoffed Clea as she punched Champion in the face.
“She’s strong,” Champion thought to herself. “Maybe the trident is increasing her strength.” She then countered by kicking Clea in the stomach, causing her to fall on her butt. As she lunged at the fallen queen, Clea retaliated with another blast from her trident, taking Champion down for the count.
While Sargona was locked in battle with the Sting Ray, she blurted out, “d**n it, Clea just took out our heaviest hitter!”
“What are you talking about, babe? I’m still up and running plus I already took care of old Devil Ray here,” remarked Jo Jo Gardner who had created a giant green hammer and beaten his opponent into unconsciousness with it.
While Sargona was distracted by Jo Jo’s Banter, the Sting Ray emitted one of her stingers which whipped around Sargona’s shield and struck her neck. She soon noticed that the muscles in her mouth and throat were paralyzed.
“What’s wrong, %!+(#, cat got your tongue?” teased the Sting Ray as she blasted the shocked Sargona into unconsciousness.
During all of the fighting, Quake was looking for something. “Here it is! A nice size fault line that should help me give this place quite the shake down.” Activating his powers, he set the fault line in motion and the palace began to shake.
Chunks from the roof began falling which caused Clea a bit of alarm.“What are you doing, boy?”
“I’ll bring this whole building down unless you surrender and give Storm Surge back his trident.”
Clea tried blasting him with her trident but with all of the vibrational energy that Quake had in use, he had erected a powerful Quake-field around himself. “Your blasts won’t be getting through any time soon.”
“I’d listen to him Clea, it’s over!” declared Storm Surge.
“Over for you, maybe!” came the voice from the black and orange clad villain who had returned with the Marine Marauder. He raised his hands and filled much of the room with electricity, which was easily conducted by the water. The current hit the synapses of Jo Jo Gardner, Storm Surge, and Quake like a hammer, instantly knocking them out.
“Nice work, Black Eel!” congratulated Clea. “The former royal family will be in shock when they find out that their forces fell so easily thanks to a traitor in their ranks.”
“And I couldn’t have been happier to do it!” the Black Eel said, smiling under his eerie mask.
