Titans of Justice / Darkest Hour #10 - “Dawn of the Dead”

Previously in Titans of Justice...........Black Hand raised an army of upper vampire hierarchy such as Dracula, Vampirus, and I...Vampire to turn millions of people into the living dead. Black Hand then took control of all of the darkness generating beings on earth(i.e. Obsidian, Shadow Thief, Nightshade) and used them to cloak the world in complete darkness. With all of the undead energy roaming around the earth coupled with the planet being shrouded in complete darkness, it was enough to make conditions right for the Mocker to use Stellar’s stolen Cosmic Converter belt to channel the various colored lights of the emotional spectrum to revive Nekron. Upon his return, Nekron has raised an army of Black Lanterns to subjugate all of creation. Black Hand used the White Wraith to acquire the White Lantern for him and then slayed him upon delivery. The New Guardians ventured to Coast City to take on Nekron and his minions. Sinestro succeeded in seizing the White Lantern from Black Hand only to be mortally wounded by the Mocker. Black Hand then took back the White Lantern and used it along with the Black Lantern power-battery to destroy Nekron and seize leadership of the Black Lantern Corps.


Coast City, CA...

Daniel Jordan and his associates had arrived on the scene. Sultana freaked out when she saw the condition that her father was in. “Father! What happened to you???” she asked in a panic.





“My daughter......it is good to see you,” Sinestro mumbled as he forced a smile, pain shooting throughout his body.





“Father, what’s wrong?” demanded the Legion of Doom member.

“I am dying......Black Hand got the better of me,” whispered the leader of the Yellow Lanterns. “Before I go, I want to tell you how sorry I am that our relationship was not better. You are a fine daughter and I am very proud of you, in spite of our differences.”

“Maybe my crystal can heal you,” offered Sultana.

“It’s too late for that,” denied Sinestro. “But there is something you can do for me....”

“Name it!” replied Sultana, eagerly.

“I need you to take charge of the Sinestro Corps,” requested the ages old foe of Hal Jordan. “Here, take my ring...”

Sultana remained quiet as she removed the yellow power-ring from her father’s finger and placed on hers, her costume transforming into a Sinestro Corps uniform. She then piped up, “In spite of all of our differences, I will make you proud father. I swear it!”





With that, Sinestro took his last breath. Sultana held his body close to her as she wept for a few minutes but soon, her sadness turned to anger. “Black Hand!!!!!!!” she screamed. “You will die this day!!!!”

While Sultana was saying farewell to her father, Black Hand had been battling the various Lantern Corps as they struggled to get the White and Black Lanterns from his possession.

Blue Lantern Daniel Jordan grabbed Sultana in hopes of reasoning with her, “Sultana, believe me when I say that I am deeply sorry about the loss of your father but you can’t go off half-cocked or you’ll end up just like him. We have to plan this out!”





“It’s Black Hand who will end up like him but.....I’ll hear you out, go ahead,” she said, sternly.

While the two began their plotting, Black Hand’s battle with the various colored Lanterns continued until he got the six remaining New Guardians into the just the right position to blast them all with his two Lanterns at the same time, taking them all out in one fell swoop. “I needed Nekron to bring the Black Lanterns back but his usefulness was short-lived and quite frankly. I grew sick of taking orders from him.. Jordan, you’ve never been useful which is why I’m not going to wait to kill you!”





“NOOO!!!” cried out Daniel Jordan as he witnessed the fall of his father and mother, creating a power-bubble around them to catch their fall and protect them from further harm.

As the inert bodies of the rest New Guardians collapsed to the ground, Larfleeze and Indigo-1’s rings lit up. They began scouring the area until they started deputizing specified candidates. Black Adam soon found himself transformed into an Indigo Lantern while Blue Dolphin obtained the Orange power-ring.





“Looks like you got your wish, Blue Dolphin,” noted Daniel Jordan.

Ganthet then appeared out of nowhere. “The time has come. It’s now up to you seven!”





“So this is it?” asked the Blue Lantern, eagerly.

“Yes, you must do battle with Black Hand in hopes of saving us all,!” replied the Guardian of the Universe.

“Wait.....what about me?” asked Stellar.





“My guess is that now’s your chance to get your belt back. There’s the Mocker over there!” Daniel Jordan said, pointing forward. “If you need some assistance, I can create a weapon for you?”

“No need,” declined Stellar. “That dude stole my belt and used it to cause all of this trouble. He’s the one who’s going to need a weapon.” said the determined teen as he raced towards the red-headed thief.

Stellar raced up to the Mocker and tackled him from behind before the Green Lantern foe even saw him coming. “Give me my belt!” demanded Stellar as he began punching his enemy in the face.

“YOU!” growled the Mocker with a scowl on his face. He then used Stellar’s belt to hurl the star-spangled teen off of him. “This is mine now. You’re not getting it back. Touch me again and you’ll lose your life too!”





Stellar quickly grabbed a large rock off the ground and hurled it towards the Mocker, scoring a direct hit on his forehead.

“OUCH!! You little brat! I’ll kill you for that!” declared the Mocker as his body lit up with energy and he began blasting away at Stellar.

Stellar recalled the gymnastics training he had been taught by Knightvision and used it to dodge several of the Mocker’s blasts but the Mocker then hit the ground right in front of him, causing him to fall on his backside.

“It’s over boy! You die now!!!” threatened the Mocker who was only a few feet from Stellar and ready to blast away until a voice called out to him.

“Hey - up here, big red!”

The Mocker looked upward only to have his face covered by Sherry the Girl of Two Thousand Gimmick’s bubble-gum splatter gun.





Stellar turned to witness the arrival of Sherry and the entire membership of the Titans of Justice, Squadron of Justice, Outsiders, and select members of the Justice Society Unlimited. “Sherry! Am I glad to see you!” shouted Stellar in delight. “But how did you guys find us?”

“Jem contacted us and told us to come here,” explained the blonde heroine. As the Mocker struggled to get the gum off of his face, Stellar filled Sherry in on what was going on as they witnessed the heroes combined assault on Black Hand his Lantern Corps. The heroes were making great progress against the undead Black Lanterns but were having little success against Black Hand. Black Hand’s control over the forces of life and death made him the most powerful adversary the Titans and their allies had ever fought. Casualties began piling up on the heroes side including Rock of the Outsiders, Saint Walker of the Blue Lanterns, and Ms. Scarlet & Pinky of the Squadron of Justice.

“This is all so crazy Stellar. What can we do?” Sherry asked innocently.

“Well...” began Stellar until he was interrupted by the Mocker who had gotten the gum off of his face.

“I’ll tell you what you can do, boy - DIE!” screamed the Mocker as he fired another energy blast at Stellar. In a shocking turn of events, Sherry pushed Stellar out of the way and took the full brunt of the blast, sacrificing her life.

“SHERRY!!!!!!!!!!” yelled Stellar, completely horrified as he caught Sherry’s lifeless body. Stellar was more angry than he had ever been in his life but he reacted smartly and used his anger to help fuel his battle with the Mocker. Stellar quickly grabbed something out of Sherry’s bag of tricks and jumped towards the Mocker. He wrapped his hand around the Mocker’s throat. The Mocker suddenly felt a sharp pain in his neck and then began to shake violently. Stellar had stuck him with Sherry’s electric joy-buzzer. As the Mocker collapsed, Stellar ripped his Cosmic Converter Belt from the Mocker’s waist and put it around his own. “Finally - it’s mine again.”

Black Hand suddenly noticed what had just transpired. “It doesn’t matter. I have the power of life and death at my disposal. Your belt is no longer necessary.





Just then, the White Lantern began glowing much brighter than it had in years and then began speaking. “A sacrifice has been made to preserve life. I have laid dormant for years but this act of selflessness has awoken me.” The lantern ripped itself from Black Hand’s grip.

“NO! Come back here!” screamed the dark clad villain as the White Lantern flew over to Sherry’s still body and shined it’s light on her. Within a few seconds, Sherry’s wounds were healed and she began to stir. Her clothing changed to that of a member of the White Lantern Corps and a white power-ring appeared on her finger.

“Ughhh.......I feel so....refreshed and energized!” declared Sherry as her power-ring lit up, a white force-field surrounding her.





“Sherry is the new guardian of the White Lantern?” questioned Red Lantern Scott Stone. “What happened to Swamp Thing?”





The White Lantern did not hesitate to answer his question, “In hibernation recovering from his last battle...”

“Sherry, you’re alive!” shouted Stellar with glee.

“Yes and I intend to see to it that Black Hand and his followers don’t kill anyone ever again!” Sherry then flew up to Black Hand, blasting him with her ring.

“Ackkkkkkk!!!” screamed Black Hand. Although injured, he quickly countered with his black ring. He and Sherry kept gaining and losing ground on each other in regard to their ring blasts colliding.

“Surrender Black Hand. I’m not giving up!” stated Sherry, more determined and confident than ever.

Stellar called out to Blue Lantern, “We’ve got to help Sherry! Get your pals to focus their rings on me!”

“You heard the man!” ushered Blue Lantern Daniel Jordan. “Focus all of your energy at Stellar.

“Won’t that kill him?” Blue Dolphin asked inquisitively.

“No, his belt will absorb and re-channel our energy,” answered the pastor by day.

With that, Blue Lantern, Star Sapphire(Jem), Red Lantern(Starman), Green Lantern(Jo Jo Gardner), Yellow Lantern(Sultana), Orange Lantern(Blue Dolphin), Indigo Lantern(Black Adam), and Black Lantern(Diamond Jack) poured on their beams into Stellar who absorbed and redirected every bit of energy at Black Hand. Diamond Jack’s opal colored energy was just what was needed in addition to the other colored rings to help vanquish the leader of the Black Lantern Corps for good. Black Hand and his deathly energies were dissipated into nothingness. All of the Black Lanterns across the world(save for Diamond Jack) began crumbling into dust as a sigh of relief was felt throughout the hero community present.

Stellar and Sherry turned to one another and said in unison, “WE DID IT! WE SAVED THE WORLD!”

“Nice job, kids!” Blue Lantern said, offering his congratulations.

“Thanks, Lantern,” smiled Stellar.

Before any of the trio could say anything else, a green glow caught their eye. As they turned towards the light they saw several members of the Guardians of the Universe had appeared on the scene.





Green Lantern Jo Jo Gardner was the first to comment, “Well, it’s about time. How come you guys always show up after all of the heavy work is done?”

“Watch your tone, Sector 2814,” chastised one of the Guardians. “Daniel Jordan, we must have words with you.”

“What do you want with him, brother?” asked Ganthet.

“We wish to offer him back his ring,” answered the other Guardian.

Daniel Jordan was speechless for a few seconds after having been dismissed by the Guardians earlier this year. Finally, he spoke up, “I thought I was terminated?”

“After looking into your matter a bit further, we found that some of the information provided may not have been accurate therefore, we would like to make good on our error and offer you back your place among the corps. Your performance today also played a large factor in our decision,” explained the Guardian.

“Thank you, sir but I’m afraid I have a new ring on my finger,” replied Daniel, humbly.

“Not any more,” interrupted Ganthet as he waived his hand and Daniel’s blue power-ring turned to dust. “Your place has always been among the Green Lantern Corps. I simply created your position as a Blue Lantern to keep you in practice. You have too much potential to let go to waste.”

“If you’re sure about this, Ganthet,” said Daniel with a soft smile appearing on his face.

“Here is your ring, Daniel Jordan,” offered the lead Guardian.

Daniel exchanged the blue ring on his finger for the green one, his uniform transforming into that he wore when he was previously a member of the Green Lantern Corps.





“Hey! What about me?!?! I thought I was earth’s Green Lantern now,” huffed Jo Jo Gardner.

“And you still are,” assured the Guardian. “You and Daniel will serve together much like his father and John Stewart did years ago.”

“I get it. You need someone to still keep an eye on Daniel,” Jo Jo said, with blaring overconfidence.

“Actually, we were hoping he would help to train you,” admitted the Guardian. “Your skills and mannerisms could use some fine-tuning.”

“Welcome back to the team, Daniel,” smiled Power Guy as he extended his right hand to shake Daniel’s.

“What??? No way is he taking my spot on the team,” grumbled Jo Jo Gardner.

“Don’t worry Jo Jo,” began Power Guy. “Our roster list clearly says that Green Lantern is a member of our team. You and Daniel both have a right to a seat at the meeting table.”

Just then, the White Lantern began speaking, “Titans of Justice - I owe you for your valiant behavior today. Without your assistance, Nekron or Black Hand would have used my power to decimate all of reality. I give you this small token of my thanks for your efforts:

After the resurrections finished, the White Lantern continued on with something even more surprising as it kept speaking:

As the White Lantern called our their names, these three heroes were de-aged by approximately five years. As astonishing as it was, the White Lantern was not done.

“Bette Kane-Parker of Earth - LIVE!”





The sidekick of Knightvision found herself aged back to the age she was before dipping in the Lazarus Pit a few years prior.

Finally, the White Lantern had one more thing to say. “I thank you all again. I bid you all farewell!” as it vanished from sight.

“No! No! No!” screamed Bat-Girl. “Why am I old again? This isn’t fair!”

“Bette?” came a familiar voice.

The former member of the original Titans West turned to see her estranged husband Golden Eagle aka Charlie Parker. “Are you ok?”

“Am I ok? Do I look like I’m ok, Chuck???” Bette said while beginning to cry about her predicament.

“I think you look beautiful....” Chuck said, softly as he wrapped his arms around his former wife.





“You do?” Bette said, tears dripping down her cheek. “Wh...what are you doing here?”

“Knightvision called me earlier and told me how you got turned into a vampire and almost died. It made me realize how much I still loved you and how foolish I was for throwing our marriage away,” admitted the protege’ of Hawkman. “Let me take you home so we can start making up for lost time.”

A few yards away, Knightvision, Crimson Squire, and the female Flash were having their own discussion about the White Lantern’s actions.

“Why did it make us younger?” Crimson Squire asked her teammates. “What purpose could this possibly serve?”

“I don’t know about the two of you but I lost a lot time in the hospital due to the disease that was killing me from my powers before Dr. Caulder cured me,” revealed the female Flash. “Maybe the White Lantern’s way of thanking me is giving me back some of my youth?”

“I’m not sure what’s going on for you and I, Brenda, but something tells me it won’t be long before we figure it out,” presumed Knightvision.

“And I don’t know why on earth the Lantern would bring back Professor Xum,” the female Flash said, a bit upset. “But I’m thankful Ralph is back. I took over for him as the Flash after he died. Excuse me while I go say ‘hello’.”

A few seconds later, Willma greeted her cousin Ralph Allen, “Ralph!!! You’re back!” she said, hugging him tightly.

“Easy Willma....it’s good to see you too,” smiled the son of Barry and Iris Allen. “It looks like Professor Xum got away in all of the confusion.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll catch him like we always have,” smiled Wilma

“You look good in your Flash uniform although it’s a little big now that you’ve been de-aged,” noted the current fastest man alive.

“Yeah, I’m going to need a new costume.....and code-name now that you’re back,” concluded the daughter of Wally and Linda West.

“New code-name? Why? There’s been more than one Flash for decades,” pointed out Ralph.

“True but I like to be unique,” admitted Willma. “Anyways, let me introduce you to some of my friends.”

A ways away, Red Lantern Scott Stone was having a joyous reunion with the second Supergirl.

“Jenna!” Scott said as he held his girlfriend close to him. “I....I was so lost without you.”

“Scott, don’t be upset,” Supergirl said as she rubbed his cheek. “I’m back and I’m not going anywhere any time soon.”

Suddenly, Scott’s body began convulsing. With Supergirl back and his rage having subsided, he was having a heart attack thanks to the red ring on his finger.

“SCOTT!” screamed Supergirl. “Somebody help him!!!”

Star Sapphire(Jem) raced over without hesitation, “My predecessor used this on Mera and it worked let’s hope lightning can strike twice. Think about all of the love you feel for Scott, Jenna. My sapphire will try to focus it into his body to keep him alive.”





With that, Jenna Kent thought about how deeply she felt for Scott Stone. Her love for him was like that of a fairy tale romance. Pure, simple, and without conditions. After a few minutes, Scott’s heart started beating again and a sigh of relief was felt by all.





Atrocitus, leader of the Red Lanterns had walked over while Scott was dying and finally spoke up, “You did well in your service as a Red Lantern. You are one of the finest warriors I’ve ever seen. Is there anything I can do for you?”





“I want your cat,” Starman stated bluntly.

“Dex-Starr!” hollered Atrocitus. “You now belong to this earthman. Serve him well as you did me.” He then turned to Starman. “You will always have a place in my corps if you want it.” he said before he took off into space.





Meanwhile, Halo and Metamorpheous were striking up a conversation with Element Girl.

“Hi, you knew my old teammate and Ethan’s dad, Metamorpho. Is there anything we can do to help you?” asked Halo.





“You look scared and confused but there’s nothing to worry about,” offered Metamorpheous. “No-one’s going to hurt you.”





“I wish they would,” Element Girl replied, shocking all of those around her. “I wish I were still dead!” she cried out as she turned the lower half of her body into pressurized steam and soared upward and away from the crowd.

As the strange girl took off, Power Guy, Knightvision, Olympia, Starman, and Nucleus converged to figure out what to do next.

“I don’t think anyone needs to say how much we’ve all been through since this ordeal started,” Nucleus said, sprouting up to normal human size. “I think everyone is wondering what’s next for us?”





“I think we should meet and talk about it all,” suggested Power Guy.

“Yeah, I think we all need a few days of R&R before any of us makes any kind of decisions,” pointed out Olympia.

“I’ll be in touch,” Knightvision said as turned and raced off with the Crimson Squire.

“Mysterious as ever,” Olympia smirked.
