I got my alumni magazine from BC in the mail today and was quite surprised to find an article on comic books in there. Apparently since I graduated, someone made a donation of over 11,000 comics to the library ranging from 1942 (a Batman issue) to 2009 (the Spidey-Obama issue I think). One of the history professors, who was part of a pilot program to have undergrads interact with primary sources used the collection for last year's iteration of the course called Making History Public. Professor Heather Cox-Richardson (who iirc just started at BC just before I graduated and who I had 1 course with that I did terribly in (I was doing research on early hagiography in pre-medieval society for her, not comic books though you could draw parallels between some of the saints' miracles and super-powers I guess). When the course was done, the students made an exhibit out of it that is open to the public on the campus of BC until August 15... here's an interview with the professor and a glimpse at the exhibit... the webpage for the alum mag is here... Boston Collegewhich you can get a PDF facsimile of the issue with the article at too if anyone is interested. The link to the text intro the video is in the upper left called Unmasked that brings you to the video on the site, the PDF facsimili link is at the bottom of that column. -M
