Titans of Justice Unlimited #94 - “A Union of Green & Black Part 5”

“Dan! Hold on buddy, we’ll get you out of here!” Dark Arrow said frantically as he, The Huntress, and Red Robin tried to free him from the confines of the freezer.





“How long have you been here? Where’s Sonic Boom?” Huntress asked. She noticed Green Lantern was badly beaten and looked thin.





He tried to speak, but his mouth was so dry no words were uttered.





“He can barely stand. He’s lost blood and dehydrated!” Red Robin said. “Look, all three of you are hurt. You all have to get help.”





Realizing the young hero was correct, the four of them made their way out of the abandoned factory. Red Robin and Dark Arrow supported Green Lantern as he tried to walk.



“We have a transporter tube nearby. We can make it to S.T.A.R. quickly. Red Robin, use this frequency. Tell Tom to have Illumina meet us there.”



“You’ve got it!”



Back at the Hall of Justice, Blue Dolphin squirmed as Green Lantern’s hands squeezed the life from her.



“d**n, you have tough hide! Maybe I’ll just cut off your head.” He said, forming a chainsaw with his ring.



“Guys! I got here as fast as I could!” came Black Vulcan’s voice. Her eyes widened as she saw her teammates….and Green Lantern?





“Ah another of my teammates. Won’t you join us, Black Vulcan?”



Black Vulcan quickly surveyed the scene and flew into the air. “The Green Lantern I know wouldn’t be so rude to his friends!” she said, firing off bolts of lighting. Green Lantern dodged them and hit her with a bolt of green energy.



“This is the new Green Lantern.” He smirked trying to capture the girl. She was fast and dodged the beams he sent at her.



“Man, I hope the others are on their way.” Flash said, wishing he could assist his teammate.





Black Vulcan and Green lantern were evenly matched. Her speed helped her avoid most of his blasts and traps, but unfortunately he was just as fast and cunning.



“She can’t keep up forever!” Corporal Marvel said.





“Don’t panic CM, she’s a pro….plus you sent out the alert…the others will be here….” Power Guy said, growing weaker by the moment. The kryptonite fragments were still adhered to his costume.





WHAM!! BOOM!!! The walls of the Hall of Justice shook as Black Vulcan fought Green Lantern.



“Getting tired I see!” Green Lantern laughed as he managed to hit Black Vulcan. She dropped from the air and smashed into the Titans’ meeting table. He walked over to her while she was still stunned. He grabbed the back of her head and smashed her face into the monitors at each members seat. WHAM!!! WHAM!!!!! Blood gushed as he beat the heroine. He dropped her limp body on the floor. “Enough of this!” he said, glaring at the captive Titans. “Time for you to die!”



“Not so fast!” came Champion’s voice! Before Green Lantern could turn around, he was captured by the magic lasso, it’s golden energy sparkling.





“You! You and this damned lasso! Release me!!” Green lantern growled.



“Not on your life! Tell the truth! Who are you? You cannot lie, the lasso compels you to tell the truth!” Champion said, anger in her voice.



Green Lantern snarled his lip at the pretty amazon. Sweat poured off his brow and his ring began to glow.



“The truth!” Champion demanded.



Green Lantern raised his fist and aimed his ring at his own head.



“What…what are you doing!?” Champion gasped.



Green Lantern smiled and a green beam blew his head off his body.



“I…Great Hera!!!” Champion cried. “I didn’t command him to do that…….”



His body went limp and collapsed to the ground. Blood and brain matter was splattered along the wall.



“Hera, help me…what have I done!?” Champion cried, dropping her lasso. She stepped back in horror.



Suddenly the power ring glowed and levitated off of Green Lantern’s hand. A hologram of Wonder Woman….not Champion’s mother….but the Super Fiend’s Wonder Woman….and Robin appeared.



“Whomever is seeing this message: We have to assume our agent has failed in his mission, but we hope he killed as many of you fools as possible before he destroyed himself. You see, we programmed him to destroy himself if he detected failure in his mission. “ Came the other dimension’s evil Wonder Woman.




Robin continued, “ Titans of Justice. You remember when Samuari cut off your Green Lantern’s hand? We kept it as a souvenier. Interesting what the science and technology of our members can do with just a hand. You see, we cloned your Green Lantern, using just his hand! With Wonder Woman’s technology from Agony Island, Hawkwoman’s Thanagarian science, Cyborg’s scientific background, Lilith’s black magic, and some good old fashioned hard work, we created an exact duplicate of your very own Daniel Jordan! Complete with his memories—everything!! We sent him to your world to murder your own emerald gladiator and take his place, start picking you off one by one! There was a dimensional rift some time ago. Lilith was able to see into your dimension and we quickly sent our gift to you. He was trained to wait for the right moment and make the switch. Sorry, we don’t have a return policy! All sales final! Rest in peace, losers!”





The other Titans had been freed when the Green Lantern clone died and were shocked.



“Green Lantern…our Green Lantern….he can’t be dead…” Sargona gasped.





“And how long was this…this clone among us?” The Flash said.



Sargona had whipped up a spell and sent the kryptonite fragments away. Power Guy said, “We’ll have to sort this all out later. Black Vulcan needs medical attention. He carefully lifted her in his arms, blood pouring from her wounds.

“Blue Dolphin, you stay here and debrief any of the members who show up.”



“I’m not cleaning this mess up.” She said, crossing her arms.





Sargona teleported the other Titans to S.T.A.R. Labs. They were met with a chaotic scene.



“Dark Arrow!” Corporal Marvel said, seeing Robert Queen’s bloody body go whizzing by on a stretcher.



“Look, there’s Nemesis!” Champion said, rushing to his side. “Tom, what’s happened here?”



“I’ve been trying to reach you! Evidently someone posing as Green Lantern has infiltrated your group. We think he’s killed Sonic Boom, not to mention roughing up Dark Arrow, Huntress, and the real Green Lantern.”





“He’s alive? Where is he?” The Flash asked as a medical team took Black Vulcan from Power Guy’s arms.



“He’s alive, but in bad shape. So are Huntress and Dark Arrow.” Red Robin said joining the group. He quickly filled them in on the events of the last few hours.



“I can’t believe this.” Sargona said, taking a seat. “It’s like a nightmare. So did Sonic Boom marry the clone or our Green Lantern? And where is she?”



Illumina emerged through an electric door. Her scrubs were covered in blood. “I can answer some of your questions. First, Green Lantern is not out of the woods. He’s in intensive care.”





“What happened?” Power Guy demanded.



“He was able to tell me very little. He’s been held captive for weeks, starved, beaten. Has anyone contact his parents?” Illumina questioned.



“I can.” Red Robin said, setting up his laptop.



Illumina continued. “Daniel Jordan was abducted weeks ago. The imposter took his ring. Made it work for him somehow.”



“He was a clone. A perfect duplicate. I guess he even fooled the ring.” Power Guy said.



“And that message from the Super Fiends….he must have encrypted it within the ring.” Corporal Marvel added.



“All I can tell you now is that Daniel is being well-taken care off. I had to remove his appendix as it had ruptured. His body was toxic. Not to mention malnourished. His back was nearly broken and he’s got lots of bruising and a concussion.” Illumina said. “I would advise you to pray for him.”



“What about Huntress and Dark Arrow?” Power Guy asked, concerned.



“Huntress is ok, minor injuries. You can see her if you wish. Dark Arrow’s pectoral muscle was slashed along with some minor injuries. He’ll need rehab, but should be good as new.” Illumina offered. “I have to go, he needs some stitching. They were wheeling him to me when you all arrived. I’ll let him know you all are here.”



Champion took Tom’s hand.



“This is awful. The only person who knows where Sonic Boom is….dead. If only I hadn’t used my lasso….”



Power Guy walked over to her. “Listen, do not beat yourself up over this. None of us had any way of knowing what he’d do. We’ll find Sonic Boom.”



“But what if…what she’s dead…or dying? Where did that clone leave her…?” The Flash said as the activity in the emergency area continued.
