Michelle MacLaren leaving Wonder Woman projectCBR has a story too but I can't seem to get CBR to load at the moment... seems McLaren is citing creative differences with the higher ups at WB and leaving Wonder Woman-which was supposed to start shooting in the fall-not sure how here departure and search for a replacement will affect the shooting schedule or the rewrite of the script she was working on... sigh... -M

Ideally, there never should be "creative differences" between an artist like a director and what amounts to stuffed suits. The powers that be should do their homework, invest their money wisely, make sure they have the right person for the job, and once said person is hired, they should get the hell out of the way. If you're not creative, it's really not in your best interests to stick your nose in. The higher ups should focus on marketing and bean counting and leave the creative side of things to actual artists. It's absurd.
Only in the most extreme cases of creative incompetence should someone above the creative level step in.

While speculation is always a dangerous thing, this certainly seems like further affirmation of the idea that the DC movies are being run by marketing directors instead of film directors.

I'm disappointed to read this. I hope this doesn't delay the film's release at all. At the same time, Wonder Woman has waited a very long time to get to the big screen and once she finally does, I don't want it rushed, I want it done right.

It's the same warped logic that would be fine with creatives getting involved in the financial side. They shouldn't if they don't own the properties. I hope one day in the far off idyllic future, we get a world where artists take over the business side of things and do away with non-creatives all-together so they can change it from "show-business" to "show-art" like it should be.

So, do I - I want it done right and with great deal of respect. This what I'm afraid of - DC Movies are being run by Marketing, Not Film - What you are saying Shax, scares me!

What bugs me most about a Wonder Woman movie is that it's always going to be too late to be perfectly cast; Lucy Lawless would have been just about perfect during her Xena heydays. (Circa 1994-1998 I'm thinking) That said, I think she'd make a fantastic Hippolyte. (She would have made an even better Big Barda, but I'm not holding my breath for DC ever having the balls to make a New Gods film, even though if done properly it would be amazing.)

And Lucy Lawless could fly, it would have saved money on the special effects.
I have no idea who should be the director. I just pray McG is too busy.

Rumor has it that she wanted WW to have a talking tiger. Not sure if she was confused with Captain Marvel's Tawky Tawny or not.

I read that rumor too and was like "If that's what this director wanted to do with Wonder Woman then good riddance." It should have been a talking Kanga.

My knee-jerk response to the talking tiger thing was "Oh, come on"...then I thought of how bleak and brooding DC seems to want to make their super hero films, and kind of warmed toward the talking tiger sidekick.

I'm hardly what you'd call a partisan, fanboy-type, and I like both Marvel and DC characters... but when it comes to management and business decisions, I get the distinct impression that DC doesn't know what the heck they're doing. Marvel has it's share of questionable actions as well, but their film/TV division seems like they have a pretty clear vision for where they are going, and they have a string of successful productions to show for it. DC's publishing side doesn't look any better. The Convergence event just seems like a disjointed hodgepodge of trying anything and everything in a desperate attempt to inject some life into sales. It's painful for me to watch.

Well they have their new director-Patty Jenkins, the director who left Marvel's Thor: The Dark World over creative differences a couple of years back-hopefully she lasts longer on this than she did on Thor...

I would avoid having a talking tiger in Wonder Woman and save it for the Shazam film. Having a talking tiger in both would be redundant, which was hopefully the studio's point.
But this means that, even more so, the Shazam movie best have Tawky Tawny if they want me to pay to go see it.
