Well... I guess it is true. There are few comic runs I enjoy more than the Trimpe "Hulk Smash!" era. The classic Trimpe-Severin team made it on to my favorite pencil-inker teams a couple years back during the Classic Comics Christmas.
I'm sure others will write fond remembrances more eloquently. I'll just say for my part he'll be missed and I'll be kind of bummed out knowing there will never be another issue of the Hulk drawn by Herb Trimpe.

I was never a Trimpe fan but I respected him as one of the players in the Marvel championship era. RIP.

Just saw the news on FB. One heckuva solid artist, & like paulie I love his Hulk run with Severin on inks.

The Trimpe era on Hulk is one of my favorite long runs in all comic books. It was completely different from anything being published at the time, and Trimpe's art was one of the things that made it unique.
So sad to hear he has dies.

I just read about this as well. He was scheduled to appear at a local convention in my area next month, and I was looking forward to meeting him. May he R.I.P.

Just saw the news on FB. One heckuva solid artist, & like paulie I love his Hulk run with Severin on inks. Severin was great, but one thing I like about the Trimpe Hulk era is the variety provided by the changing inkers and writers, all held together by Trimpe's art. So many great inkers! Sam Grainger, Jack Abel, Dan Adkins, Sal Trapani, John Severin, great art all the way through.

He was the Hulk artist, as well as leaving his mark on other series. Sad that he's gone. Rest in peace.

For some reason Jack Abel looked stellar on Trimpe with his almost not there inking style.

I was never a fan of his work, but he seemed like a good guy, and his importance to Marvel can't be ignored. Very sorry to hear this.

Herb's Hulk is the Hulk for me. While his work could vary wildly in quality, Herb always hit the mark when it came to the power and menace of the Hulk. RIP, Herb. Thanks for all the great comics.

Herb Trimpe was an artist I studied in depth as I was coming up, as he was an absolutely master at composing well-balanced pages in service to whatever narrative they were advancing. This is a tremendous loss to the world of sequential storytelling.
Cei-U! I lower the flag to half-mast!

This is very sad. I've recently gotten into the older Hulk issues, and I have developed a fondness for his work. This past fall I got to spend about 20 minutes talking with him about a number of topics at the Pittsburgh Comicon while he was signing a large pile of issues of the Desert Wind Comics Death of Wolverine #1 variant cover he drew to be sold at another booth, and when I handed him my books to sign (Hulk 124, Hulk 142, and Marvel Spotlight 12), he got a gleam in his eye and remarked that he liked signing for people who appreciated the classics.
R.I.P., Mr. Trimpe.

Best Hulk Artist - He's captured the soul, the passion, the emotions of Hulk just perfectly - He's the best of the best artist around for the Incredible Hulk.
