From WARNER BROS. NAMES NEW "WONDER WOMAN" DIRECTOR Posted: 18 minutes ago | Updated: 1 minute ago FilmAlbert Ching, Managing Editor9 Email Print Patty Jenkins is on board to direct "Wonder Woman" for Warner Bros. Just two days following the news that director Michelle MacLaren had left Warner Bros.' in-development "Wonder Woman" film, a new director has joined the project: Patty Jenkins, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Jenkins wrote and directed 2003's "Monster" (which earned Charlize Theron an Academy Award), and at one point was on board to helm Marvel Studios' "Thor" sequel, before leaving the production. THR states the "Wonder Woman" move is official, saying Jenkins has "closed a deal" for the film. The lack of female directors working on superhero films has been widely noted, with Lexi Alexander's 2008 film "Punisher: War Zone" standing as a rare example, and Jenkins' departure from the "Thor" sequel often noted as a missed opportunity. Jenkins hasn't directed a feature since "Monster," but has worked on high-profile TV series including "The Killing" and "Entourage." Before news of MacLaren leaving "Wonder Woman" broke on Monday, she had been attached to direct and develop the film since November. Creative differences were cited as the reason behind her departure. Starring Gal Gadot in the title role, "Wonder Woman" -- the first feature film to star the iconic DC Comics superhero -- is currently slated for release on June 23, 2017. Gadot will first be seen as Wonder Woman in next year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," out March 25, 2016.

It's not McG, so we'll put this in the win column.
