I didn't know Kinstler ever drew Hawkman--or any superhero for that matter. That's what I thought too. It wasn't until I met him at SDCC in 2007 that I'd even heard of him. He said he'd mostly done pulp covers and later painted portraits of the Presidents. His work was extremely good. I'd love to see his Hawkman ! I'd never heard of him 'till yesterday.

Listening to the podcast has been immensely fun for me. Having never gotten to meet you personally, Kurt, it's a lot of fun listening to you talk.

Still listening. Love your point about Julie Schwartz being responsible for the influx of Sci-Fi writers into comicdom. I wonder if you can stretch that a little further and speculate that we might never have had a Fantastic Four if sci-fi hadn't already been so seamlessly incorporated into the superhero genre by that point.

Congrats on another published article, Cei-U. Golden/Silver Age DC is something I get more interested in with each passing year. Is there a place that I can go to check out all of your articles and various other writings on the topic in one location?

Is there a place that I can go to check out all of your articles and various other writings on the topic in one location? I know you can download the various issues from TwoMorrows for a fee but I don't think there's anywhere online where you can read them for free. Cei-U! Sorry!

First off, I'd like to say congrats to Kurt... I can only imagine how cool it must be to have an article about comics published!! As someone who has never purchases and 'industry' type magazines like Alter Ego, can anyone tell me what they're like? Are they all research articles like Kurt's, or is some of it speculation/news like one might find on CBR? Any art (besides the cover?). Three comics worth of cost makes me what to know a bit about what they're like before I buy them

Alter Ego is mostly interviews with veteran creators, editors and publishers of the Golden and Silver Ages plus articles like mine and occasional ones on the early days of fandom. Michael T. Gilbert is a regular columnist and the back of the mag is devoted to the Fawcett Collectors of America, once its own fanzine. There's full color art from cover to cover. It usually takes me an hour or two to read an issue, or about 23 times what it takes me to read a contemporary comic book. As a regular contributor, I get mine for free but I considered it worth every penny back when I had to buy 'em like the rest of you schmoes. Cei-U! I summon the big ol' thumbs up!

That's a classic Hawkman look that I remember as a kid borrowing my older brothers stuff. Man, thanks for posting these pages hondobrode.

This makes four Alter Ego lead articles - congrats, Kurt! I got to see a sneak preview of the article in progress so I know how good it is. Kurt, did you get the email I sent the other day where Roy says nice things about you? Sorry, Rob, i missed your post first time around. Must be my new computer. Yeah, that's the ticket! I did get it and I'm still blushing! Wish me luck, by the way: I'm about to jump feet first into the Fiction House titles. Cei-U! I summon Sheena and Firehair! Yowza!

And a glance of # 118, where he wrote a history of the Avengers. Also, I think that's Tony Isabella's hand.

... Also, I think that's Tony Isabella's hand. Actually, it's John Morrow's hand (I have that issue, and it's stated therein. Loved Kurt's Avengers overview). I'm a real fan of AE and will pick up the latest issue shortly. I also listened to the podcast, it's as expected--wonderful and informative! And if I may say so, Cei-U's tones are more on the dulcet side than I'd imagined. I thought he'd sound a bit more--er-- cantankerous. But he could sound like Popeye and I'd still listen to him--it was a great, illuminating discussion, something classic comic fans should not miss.

Ah, ok. That was the first result on Google Image search and it came from Tony Isabella's blog. At least it's SOMEONE who is semi-comics-famous hand.

Great to hear you speak in that podcast, Kurt. Somehow your voice is different to how I imagined it would be. Not that I spent much time thinking about such a thing, but there it is.
