That's just weird! This is the problem with Marvel trying to condense time... the shorter (in years) the entirely of Marvel history is, the closer in age everyone is, and you get weird stuff like people dating Mothers and Daughters. (or is Crystal Medusa's younger sister? I don't recall...)

Well Bleeding Cool is reporting Spoilers to the fates of the X-Men and FF post Secret War now... FFX-MenThe gist of the X-Men-the released Terrigen Mists effectively kill mutants, so the X-Men can't stay on Earth and head on out to space.... And good ole Ben Grimm takes off for Space too and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy...while Johnny is in the Inhumans and Reed and Sue are mourning some sort of loss.... So let's exile the X-Men from Marvel Earth so they don't interact with the rest of the MU but keep publishing some X-books....meh...will they now defend the universe that fears and hates them...? I mean that was the central conceit that made the books work and of interest to me-defending the world that despised them....but hey whatever, I wasn't going to be giving Marvel a lot of my money anyways.... -M

At this point, I have to conclude that the Marvel Universe is officially broken. I understand that comics have always been ultimately about making money, and that comic publishers have never made any false pretenses that they were producing High Art. But making such huge storytelling mandates that run so deep for what are essentially film licensing disputes pretty much tells you that publishing has stopped mattering to TPTB (if it wasn't already clear before).

The X-Men turning into Battlestar Galactica is a pretty crazy concept. You could make an interesting story out of it if you played it as a story between the galactic powers between the Shiar, Kree, Skrull etc. You could get into some weird story angles. Although I think the whole persecution and concentration camp mentality that took over the series really is kind of a downer and this is just taking it into it all. I've read quite a few X-men comics from the past decade or so and I kind of find the series hard to get into myself.
I think for Marvel comics, I'll stick mostly to the ones before 1990.

Depending on who's writing the X-Men book, I may actually check it out. The idea that they are now in the own universe dealing with problems and challenges other than the tired old Sentinels, anti-mutant hysteria, and Brian Michael Bendis might be enough to draw me back into the fold.
As for FF, while I respect what they meant to the birth and growth of the Marvel universe, their book has been mediocre with only brief flashes of goodness for a long time, and I doubt anything could bring me back to picking up any future series. The only way they work is as a foursome, but that dynamic is played out, because there are only so many times Reed can keep a secret from the others or Ben can leave because he feels like a monster.

IF you like the concept, you can check it out in Uncanny Avengers... while the set up was different, that's EXACTLY what Rick Remender did about six months ago... I wonder if this is just someon at Marvel trolling BC, because repeating a story like that makes even less sense than usual.

Morrison tried something different in the early 2000s, with the "mutant chic" angle replacing the constant fear and persecution. Naturally that didn't stick...
