Forgot about seeing those guys. Caught the Dead Milkmen in Little Rock in probably the fall of '87; TMBG played a free gig at Harding College in Searcy, maybe 30 minutes from LR, in the late '90s. Ever saw Hüsker Dü? Seems like your years of concert going. Which I could have seen them, but I'm too young. At least I saw Flag last Year (Keith Morris fronted Black Flag) and will see Black Flag in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, no. I lumped them together with all the other SST bands back in the early '80s, & I wasn't much of a fan of that vibe, Black Flag notwithstanding. (Not a big Black Flag fan, either, but I respected them as pioneers of a sort. First time I saw them was in 9/81 during Henry's first tour as vocalist. Last time was in 2/86; shows by "name" punk bands were so rare in Little Rock back then [though compared to Montgomery at any point over the last 3 1/2 decades, central Arkansas tmight as well have been 1977 Punk London ... but I digress] that it was easily the antisocial event of the season, & I of course had to go despite not being a devotee of the band.) Could've seen HD several times, as SST bills were pretty common in Phoenix when I lived from 8/81-5/84 while going to grad school, but nooooooooooo.

Realized a couple of days ago that I forgot that I'd seen Billy Bragg as well. PRetty memorable show -- it was in the little Oklahoma town where Woody Guthrie was born, & held on his birthday as the headlining event in a festival they'd launched to capitalize on the connection. A couple of other folkies performed (only one I remember is Ellis Paul, who did a really nice song called "Angel in Manhattan"), & then Billy came out for a great set -- mostly the archival Guthrie tuens he'd recorded with Wilco for Mermaid Avenue, though I don't believe that had come out yet.
Personal highlight for me, though, was hearing his cover of Leon Rosselson's "The World Turned Upside Down," which I've also heard Rosselson himself do (how in heck that guy wound up performing for the Little Rock Folk Club, I have no idea ... but I'm glad he did), as well as Chumbawamba (back in 10/92 or so, a good half-decade before "Tubthumping.") And of course my favorite song of his, "Waiting for the Great Leap Forwards."

I can recall about a 2 year period of my life where I was all about SST but moved on to less glum and passive-aggressive strum und drang.
I can still say that New Day Rising, Double Nickels, Sister and Evol I can play over and over again. Damaged? Not so much.

Easily the peak of SY's oeuvre, IMHO, though I suppose the follow-up Daydream Nation is the one a lot of people point to. Pretty sure I'd think that even if I didn't know about the Philip K. Dick connections.

The SYR releases from the late 90s are quite good.

I've always wanted to see the White Stripes in concert, but they don't seem to be getting back together and Jack has moved on to other things.

They were set up in the middle of the dance floor in a small club in Memphis when I saw them on 9/10/01. Definitely no backing tracks.

I LOOOOVE their music, so I was pretty excited to see them. But then the singer acted like an asshole all the time, laughing at the mostly French Canadian crowd, I guess thinking people didn't understand English? At first me and my friends thought he was joking, but he didn't stop for 40 minutes... Whats an asshat!

Except for Weird Al though. That man's a saint. Actually, Blake Schwarzenbach from Jawbreaker was pretty funny. For all their usual seriousness, Guy and Ian from Fugazi were cool.

Saw Rocket from the Crypt ages ago ... 1991, I think, at the Antenna Club in Memphis. Probably opening for Superchunk.
