Gerry Conway has issued a public apology to the DC brass... CBR storyhmm I wonder if this means we will be seeing new DC work from Conway or more collections of his classic work being published to provide him with royalties.... -M to steal from Cei-U, I summon the deep cynicism.... Interesting that the apology doesn't indicate that anything he said in his original allegations was untrue. He's apologizing for presuming motives, but that wasn't the core of his initial complaint.

No he pretty much stood by his complaint about how derivatives are handled but pulled back pointing fingers at who was doing it and why. -M

Unfortunately, these corporations have too much power and know that a single person or even a group of people can't really afford to go toe-to-toe with them in court, as they cannot match the corporate money in overhead court expenses.
As much as our heart bleeds for the creators, the ones in charge in the corporate level has nothing to do with comic books, and in their minds, all that matters is the U.S. Dollar and how much profit can be made with limiting the overhead expense.
However, I hope that somewhere in our timeline, these individual creators can put something in the win column in their battle(s) with corporate DC and corporate Marvel.
On a separate note that has nothing to do with the topic... I have NEVER forgiven Gerry Conway for killing off Gwen Stacy. Even though I wasn't born yet when the actual issue came out.

I think at some point Marvel and DC are going to have to work out deals with creators so they can own at least part of their creations. Ideally it would be 50/50, but anything would be an improvement. As its going right now, we'll never see characters as iconic as Superman, Batman and Spider-Man ever again. What creator would ever give Marvel or DC something like that? Then again, they make so much money I suppose its worth the loss in the long-term. Still, wouldn't Marvel or DC like to have 50% of Hellboy, Sin City, or Saga as opposed to 0%?

I personally never got big into DC
Pretty much the only time I really payed attention was during Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing and the Frank Miller/Doug Moench/Chuck Dixon runs on Batman.
I just find the majority of Marvel's heroes/villains to be way more interesting/entertaining.

I'd enjoy new work from Conway He's going to be writing a new Firestorm mini from DC early next year. He also has some Spider-Man work at Marvel coming up.
